Quizno's

Neighborhood: SOMA

Every time I walk into Quizno's, I can't help wonder, "why am I here?"  Apparently, I go for overpriced, mediocre sandwiches because that is what I get each and every time.  Particularly when you consider this place is less than a block away from my office, I rarely eat here (maybe once every 3-4 months).

Still, I have some specific complaints and observations of Quizno's.  Do they have to douse heavy sweet sauces on top of what are otherwise decent quality ingredients?  And the prices ... geesh!  The quality doesn't warrant spending a 10 spot or more for a sandwich, soda and chips.  Too expensive!

Fit my dog in on short notice, excellent customer service.  Top notch grooming.  Even pointed out an ear infection that my dog was already being treated for, but still A+ for attention to detail.  Highly recommended and my partner is a high maintenance veterinarian!

I ate here for the first time today never having heard of it before and never having looked it up yelp like I normally would.  What a great place.  I'll definitely be back.  It is a little bit pricier than many Japanese places and the sushi was great but not the best I've ever had but the other dishes were awesome.  I also appreciated that the spicey tuna roll actually had a little kick to it.  Very cute place, I loved it.

Bursting with flavor.  I've never tasted so many flavors of tangy in my life.  Uniquely friendly server (owner?) that welcomed us and thanked us in the most sincere way.  Wow, that hot sauce was awesome!  3 of us, 3 awesome meals.  About the size of my living room, only 4 or 5 tables.  Casual, slightly divey and delicious!  I'll be back.

What to say about Osha ...

* Would go there twice as much if not for the liiinnnneeessss.  Alas, there is a reason why it is always packed.
* I LOVE my two favorites so much that I'm not adventurous ... the Pad Prik is nice and spicy and rocks!
* It's a buck or two more expensive than most, but you get what you pay for in great food and nice atmosphere.
* PERFECT place to meet a friend or date for lunch.  Just get there at 11:55AM.  The place is full by 12:01PM.
* Totally excited that they opened in Glen Park!

Costco Wholesale Warehouse

I generally really like Costco but I rarely go now because this location sucks so much.  They do not believe in paying anyone to do cart duty evidently because it was extremely competitive to get a cart.  I had to wait while this poor family unpacked their cart to get one and 3 other people walked up wanting the same cart while I was waiting.  I know what it is like there on the weekends.  I'm OK with waiting.  I'm not OK when someone steals my cart that had several items in it.  RUDE!

I got a good solid lunch here with a generously-sized sandwich and great quality ingredients.  It was certainly enough for like 3 1/2 stars but the friendliness of the guys behind the counter definitely bumped it up to 4.  And they have hot dogs now, for the few of us that seemed to enjoy "What's Up Dog?" at this location.  And while we are on the subject of location, it is a strange, low visibility location.  I work across the street otherwise I'd never have seen it right next to the little motorcycle shop on Harrison.  Overall ... friendly staff, good food and cheap!

Lee's Deli

You people that are critical of Lee's need to get over yourselves and consider what they have to offer.  A huge variety of food at more than reasonable prices.  I don't go to Lee's for the personal service.  I go there to get decent, cheap food really fast.

Believe it or not, I missed Lee's when I lived in Columbus and Los Angeles.  Neither city had anything like it.  Sure, they had Quizno's, Subway and Panda Express, but nothing as fast and cheap as Lee's.  And generally speaking, I prefer a Lee's turkey sandwich or wonton soup to anything Subway & Quizno's has to offer.

I am reading a lot of complaints about the Chinese food bar at Lee's and frankly, I agree.  It is the worst of the Lee's offerings both from a quality and value-for-the-money perspective.  I pretend it isn't there and opt for a sandwich, a bowl of wonton or the just-the-basics salad bar.

Wow!  I am absolutely stunned that this is not more highly rated by folks.  I was there last week and I am still dreaming about it.  In fact, I am imagining the delicious tapas-style Peruvian right now.  I love Limon, but I like Piqueo's better for atmosphere (it's smaller and more neighborhood-y), the service (very friendly and prompt) and, of course, the food.  That was my first visit and I'll be back!

French Laundry

I can't rave enough about this place.  I'm from Michigan but live in the San Francisco area now where there is a great restaurant around every corner.  The French Laundry of Fenton compares well to my SF faves and I highly recommend it to anyone in the northern suburbs of Detroit or the Flint area.  Whether for breakfast or a sandwich-y lunch with a European flair, you can't beat this place.  Wonderful atmosphere, great food, friendly service, great neighborhood.  Five stars baby!
