 Update - 7/9/2009
guess what dudes, i have moved on from this place. while they are super nice, i was was starting to feel like my prescription was on target. kind of blurry, having some headaches. i had them recheck it and they assured me it was correct.  i got 2 other opinions, and BOTH said i had a different prescription.

they are really nice but when i come to healthcare, nice ain't enough to cut it.

Dr. Wong is super gentle and his scripts are very accurate. They take my insurance (VSP) and are really nice.  The receptionist might be a little heavy on the cologne wearing, but he is funny, helpful and gave me free glasses cases, contact solution, and eyeglass cleaning cloths! This place rocks.

this place looks like it is getting ready to open, and i am super excited! i've been watching folks work on it for months.

i need a really tasty salad place near work, and i want amanda's to be it. also, the menu online looks super reasonable and yummy! 3.75 for a burger (homemade veggie with waluts and mushrooms or naturally raised beef) sounds like a deal! sign me up!

i'm watching you amanda, and when you open your doors, i'll be there.

UPDATE 7/30:

Okay, so I got to have lunch there one Monday. The decor looks good, with a big picnic table and bright green/white walls. The fact that they have an outdoor seating area is real nice too.

I got the super veggie combo with avocado. The fries were airbaked and tasty, the veggie burger had potential but wasn't  very hot and needed a little more seasoning, and the salad was solid. Since it was their first day and the place was packed, I'll cut them some slack on the burger, I'm hoping they figure that one out.

Best thing tasted there: The freshly made soda. Wow, I had a sip ofmy friend's ginger beer and had to snatch some of my own. I could drink that all day!

All and all, this place is pretty great. Healthy, reasonably priced, and all recycled packaging. Welcome  to Berkeley Amanda!  I'm totally going to be a regular.

seriously, i had no idea a falafel could be this gross! i love falafel, but this crumbly dry thing that tasted like it had been left unwrapped in the fridge for a few days was ick-Y.  on top of that, the sandwich wasn't cheap. paying  $6.40 for something that unsatisfying is just not okay. and yes, the service is crazy slow. honestly, i wish there was something nice i could say about this place... i suppose i could mention that the cashier had a friendly smile. that's the best i can do.

i come here  for lunch a few times a month. it's not the best food in the world, but for $5 you get a bowl of hot and sour soup; an egg roll; a big pile of the veggie entree of your choice over brown rice; and you can wash the whole meal down with some tea and a fortune cookie.  9 times out of 10 i get the delicious veggie chicken in spicy garlic sauce. delish!

i'm not sure what planet your from, but here on EARTH, that's what we call a deal. with prices like that, it doesn't really matter that the food is predictable. it's a lunch special, not haute cuisine! just smile, eat, and enjoy.

I love:

- The clam shell containers jam packed full for cold salads. You can get two kinds in a small for $3.50! It even comes with a free hunk of honey wheat bread. A whole meal. I like the basil tomato cheese penned, and the spicy cabbage, the tofu is also good.

- The day old muffins for $1. Still taste fresh and yummy. Pumpkin is the best.

-  Those happy smiley people behind the counter!

I hate:

- The coffee. Bland, watery. Not my thing, at all.

This place is tasty and has a great $5 1 slice and a small salad special. And, the garden salads have candied walnuts in them! How fancy is that?  They also have a pretty good happy hour with cheap pitchers and slices, lots of brews on tap. It's also nice that this place is next to the Goodwill, when I get the urge to do  a little thirftin' on my lunch break, Bobby G's is the spot!

The fresh tofu spring rolls are where it's at for this joint. I drop in when I need a super quick, fresh, healthy, light lunch for under $5.

Warning: everything else looks pretty yucky.

oh you yelpers, you've done it again!  i looked in the mirror the other morning and realized it was time to get my locks under control. just because i'm growing my hair out doesn't mean that it needs to be a sloppy shapeless mess. so i visited yelp and hit up eclipxe because of all the good reviews.

i made a same day appointment with adrianna, who was kind enough not to give me much guilt about having avoided the salon for a good year. though, she did quietly ask "who did this to you?!"... i told her that i only had myself to blame.

she was able to trim and shape my budding mullet into a cool looking, low maintenance wavy shag, without taking off much length. i love it! and the cost: $40 for the cut and a shampoo/blow dry. a deal that can't be beat!

okay, one more time: there is free popcorn here on weekdays people!  this  fact combined with the beautiful classic theater decor, openly anti-bush and pro-peace management, and full length twirly mirrors in the bathroom  make grandlake my favorite theatre. good sound, big screens, comfy seats... what more do you want?

When I think of Van Kleef's two words come to mind "Fresh Squeezed." Two more words "Hell Yes" are usually soon to follow.

The owner, Peter is kind of zany and has an amazing collection of rare and random objects, with which he has decorated this little downtown Oakland Gem.

And my fellow yelpers are totally right. The greyhounds are undoubtedly the best I've ever had. I want one right now.
