The Cheesecake Factory

Update - 12/1/2011
Went there for lunch today and they have a new, separate SkinnyLicious Menu (their name, not mine) which had quite a few great menu options for my GF diet needs.  I had the Skinny tacos on corn tortillas today and they were fantastic.  The menu is very extensive and the portions were good size.  Very happy with the new options there!

I read all the complaints about this place.  I understand the urge to bash because it's a national chain (I don't see the same level of bashing for Texas chains on here).  I just gotta say - the food is good and there's a lot of it.

For lunch I highly recommend the Santa Fe Chicken Salad or the Barbeque Chicken Salad.  The Chipotle dressing is outrageously good.

To celebrate my excellent, healthy choice of a salad I usually reward myself with cheesecake slice.... or two.

Hat Creek Burger

OK, I think that people are being a little unrealistic and harsh here.  IT'S A BURGER JOINT, folks!  I went there for the first time yesterday and was very pleasantly surprised.  I would have given this a four star rating but I've driven by at lunch at least three other times and couldn't find a spot to park so I left.  Parking is really impossible at lunchtime peak hours there.

Yesterday I went at about 12:45 and had no problem finding parking and service was very fast.  I ordered the double burger version on a lettuce wrap instead of a bun and the combo with drink was a little over $7.  Not bad for a good meal and the fries were fresh and those thin, greasy kind that I like.

The patio has a lot of room - probably more room for people on the patio than the parking lot can even support!  They have a drive through which is not easy to see from the road and I didn't even know was there until I parked the car on the back lot and saw it walking in - not obvious from either Bee Caves or the 360 frontage road entrance.  Nice to know it's there as that's at least an option when the lot is full.

If parking gets improved I'll definitely re-review and upgrade this.

I was in a bad mood.  Very stressed.  Needed to get away and take a break but the idea of sitting in a Starbucks at 8:30PM sounded depressingly loser-ish.  Figured that Lola Savannah would still be sad but at least a little cooler.  Forgot that they have wine :)  Good wine :)

Let's see, it pretends to be a coffee bar but actually I can hide in the back and have wine and do work on my computer.  HEAVEN!

This is the perfect spot.  I can start with coffee and end with wine or vice versa.  I can just come here and veg out.  Great atmosphere, friendly wait staff, good wine list, food from The Grove.

Perfection!

Now if they could just fix the parking....

Mama Fu's Asian House

I am a major Mama Fu's fan.  The food is great and they have a terrific menu for eating Gluten-Free.  You can get rice dishes, noodle dishes (rice noodles), and appetizers on the menu that are GF.  Nice to be able to go to a place like this and not have to pick crappy choices while everyone else gets the good stuff!

The only thing about Mama Fu's that concerns me is that it's never busy when I go there.  I'm hoping that it's just the timing of crowds around when I go there.  If you are shopping in the Brodie Lane area this is a convenient place to go.

Sao Paulo's Restaurante

I was amazed to find availability for a party of 8 just before the UT game a couple of weeks ago.  A little tip - the street parking is restricted to one hour until 7PM.  If you get there at 6pm you can have dinner and then walk to the stadium or concert hall.  We started with great appetizers and then dinner.  The walk to the stadium was necessary after all of the food!

Sao Paulo has a mixed menu with both Tex-Mex and Brazilian entrees.  I opted for the Brazilian side of the menu and the food was great.

I understand the comment about service.  Our wait staff was great but the hostess had a definite attitude.  Didnt' take away from our overall experience, however.

A good stop if you are around the UT campus.

Parkside

Parkside is a good place to eat if you are out on 6th Street and want a quality meal in a comfortable surrounding.  The food was very good and fresh.  They had a great selection of oysters the night that we were there and they tasted like they were pulled out of the water that day.  Still had that ocean salty brine taste (yes, I know that they probably add it but still...).

They aren't quite as organized on the gluten-free side in terms of choices but they were very accomodating and I was able to have a great meal that didn't have to compromise flavor or choice.

I like this place, but dealing with Sixth Street is a hassle.  Unless I'm out there for some other reason it's not a primary stop for me.  The restaurant is a solid four for food and service.  The location hassle makes it just tough for me.  If you are visiting in Austin and downtown it's definitely worth a stop in.

Tacodeli

Tacodeli is great for those with Gluten Free diet needs.  You can get the tacos on corn tortillas and if you tell them that you are gluten free they will make recommendations on what is ok to order.

The Fundido tacos with chicken and the Cowboy tacos are incredible.  The problem that I always have is every taco I've had there is great and I can never make up my mind.  They have so many different types of tacos that you can spend two weeks of going there every day for lunch and still not try them all!

They have a blue plate special which is tacos with beans and rice.  My suggestion is DO NOT GET IT and just get another taco to try.  Their blue plate special is like the salad bar at a brazilian steakhouse - it just fills you up so that you don't have room for the good stuff!

The only reason that I've given TD four stars instead of five is that the location is always packed at lunch and I sometimes can't go there due to the lines.  They have menus at the door when you walk in, on the wall as you stand in line, and at the front counter and people STILL wait until they get to the order taker and then take five minutes to figure out what they want (need a separate line for clueless people there - they could be nice and call it the 'first timer' line).

If they do something to fix the lunch line they definitely qualify for the full five stars!

This is 5 stars for the Gluten Free options.  The GF pizza is fantastic!  And, unlike most pizza places where the GF pizza only comes in a medium size, Z Pizza has a Large size as well.  The crusts are so good that you won't believe that they are gluten free!  As other reviews have pointed out, this is a small place so it's good for takeout but I'm not sure that I'd want to stay to eat there.  Kinda small for anything except for a quick lunch drop by.

I've had the GF Pizza with Mushrooms, Ham, Pepperoni (always a little sketchy about whether the Pepperoni is GF but I haven't had any issues).  Haven't been disappointed in the pizza yet.

Massage Harmony

Neighborhoods: Rollingwood, Westlake Hills

5.0 star rating
Update - 11/26/2011
This was due for an update AND an upgrade.  Three things have made this place much better over the past year: 1) Jessica Day, who I've never met but who manages the stores and sends out email blasts if you are on the mailing list.  Since she's been there I've noticed less turnover, much improved phone and front desk service, and a happier environment among the therapists, 2) Andrea, who has been working the front desk for awhile now.  She does a great job and works to get appointments that are convenient for my schedule, not just the store's schedule, and 3) Tiffany and Brooke, incredibly talented therapists.  Tiffany is the therapist that I use the most but Brooke is awesome as well.  They care about their clients and the quality of the massage.

The price is excellent for the massages and you don't have to be a 'member' like the other place.  I've been able to see the same therapists for quite awhile now which is a huge plus and makes the experience much more comfortable when you are working with someone that you are familiar with.

I don't go anywhere but Massage Harmony anymore.

I had a different experience than the other reviewers.  I use Massage Envy, but when I can't get in there I go to Massage Harmony which is usually much easier to schedule.

The telephone number there is 306-0900 - don't ask me why it's not listed or why the website doesn't have the Bee Caves address or telephone number but it doesn't.

Most of the therapists are good, I get frustrated by the tip signs as well but if they do a good job it's still a reasonable cost when compared to a spa.

Pluckers Wing Bar

They have a Gluten-Free menu.  Did you hear me?  GLUTEN FREE WINGS!!!  With Buffalo Sauce!  Mild, Medium, or Spicy.

I don't care about the noise (earlier reviews), any issues that people have had with service (I had a good experience), or all of the TVs creating huge distractions.  This place has GLUTEN FREE WINGS.

I came in for lunch and had the Grilled Chicken Salad with Medium Buffalo Sauce.  Very good.  Greens were crispy, just the right amount of dressing - roasted bell pepper dressing for me, and lots of chicken.

Oh, by the way, did I mention that they have GLUTEN FREE WINGS!!!!
