Just had to add that I went back with my friend and ordered the mocha this time. Best damn mocha I've ever had! And that says a lot since I usually get a peppermint one at Starbucks just to cover the taste of their mochas. Yummy mocha, brought to us on the swank white couch, rocked my day.

Yeeeah!!! Finally, a local coffee shop worth writing about. Thankyouthankyouthan kyou!
Cafe Bravo has a total 60s vibe to it but done which class. Bold brown and orange cover this shop but it is the additional white details and furniture that made my design self squeal inside with joy.
The private "bonus" room off to the left of the main entrance had me planning a future session with my people. Is it a bit too much to say I adored that room? *Sigh* Orange drapes frame the triangular space, filled with a yummy white couch and small table and chairs. Lower than most couches, it was just right for relaxing, close enough to the table yet far enough to stretch out the legs. it did get a little chilly in there, so bring a sweater or jacket if you plan on using the side room.
Oh, right, the coffee. I can't speak for the fancy drinks, as I only ordered drip, but my friend said her latte was yummy and tasted very fresh. My 12oz coffee in a mug (on a plate!) was brought out to me (along with the half and half) and was very tasty indeed. The coffee's flavor was bold yet not bitter like I'm accustomed to. I drank it down quite quickly because it was smooth and tasted so, so good.
Even when the cafe business picked up the atmosphere didn't seem crazy or rushed. There was plenty of space inside in additional to the small room, and a number of outside seating available as well.
The staff was a friendly bunch, and like I mentioned earlier, offered to bring our drinks to us once we stated we were staying.
The location is a bit out of my way during my usual routine (I live in Menifee), but I'll be stopping there regularly when make my trips to Eclectic Books down the road. Perhaps I'll even bring along my laptop to enjoy the free wi-fi. Because, oh yes, Cafe Bravo rocked my socks off and I'm going back for more.
My friends and I met up here last Saturday and stayed for quite awhile. Not only was the yogurt perfect, but the atmosphere was fun and welcoming. White Lime always bugged me because the inside seating area was tiny. Not an issue at FroYoLand! Four bright orange chairs, along with a couple small table & chair sets, a kids table, plus plenty of walking room. This is huge and very important to me. I don't like feeling cramped and that other customers are going to bump into me while I'm enjoying my yummy goodness. Again, not an issue here, and my friends and I were comfy on our two couches hanging out for over an hour.
There were a variety of flavors, but I'm a simple person, so stuck with my vanilla. (I tried peppermint...was lovely, but wouldn't have meshed well with my favorite fruit toppings). I don't use all the candy toppings, (ok, I love the cheesecake bites), but there were oodles. I go straight to the fruit and not only did they have strawberry and kiwi, my favorites, but they had mango. Ultra Yum!
Friendly service, bright, colorful and spacious atmosphere and the yogurt was creamy. Perfect. Definitely going to be the new "meetup" place for me and my friends.

Angelo's Towing
Category: Towing
Neighborhood: Barrio Logan
I called AAA to have someone come out and put air in my flat spare tire. When Angelo's came out with a response truck (pretty much everything but towing available) the guy helped me out as much as he could. Turns out the tire wouldn't hold the air, so he called in a tow truck to get things situated.
The first guy (wish I could remember his name, especially since he was a cutie) was extremely nice and patient with me. Stay around until the tow truck showed up ten minutes later.
I ended up riding with the tow truck all the way home (he towed from Fairemont up to my place in Menifee) and had no issues. He was friendly, even stopped and got me a cup of coffee before we hit the 15 North.
Oh, and I left my favorite Camelbak water bottle in the truck and he came back a few minutes later to return it to me. Yeeeah!
No trouble, explained what they were doing and were quick about it.
Still a friendly staff and instructors...they get rid of the good ones I don't know what I'll do.
EDIT: I take that back about the staff. Well, some of the staff are nice but a lot of the girls at the front desk have been quite rude and snobbish as of late. Perhaps there feeling of sudden importance now that they're wearing uniforms.

I still love this gym and drive fifteen minutes to workout here. While there have been some changes in the last year to change my original rating from five to four stars, as of yet it's not enough to scare me away.
The staff continues to be friendly and helpful as ever. I really appreciate that and it's made the largest impact on whether I return even though I manage to move further away every year.
Unfortunately, the change in ownership within the last few months has affected the atmosphere some. Somewhat annoying, there seems to be more advertising for other businesses and products within the gym. While I realize they probably do this in order to provide additional income besides memberships, it's distracting.
Additionally, the religious reading material throughout the locker room has increased and grown quite tiresome. Sure, other random magazines are available but it's in your face and feels preachy. Yes, it's a private business and they can do what they please, but if they start displaying scriptures or other religious items on their walls like some other gyms I've sampled in the area I'll have to change where I work out.
On the plus side of changes, the original smoothies they had were based off of powder and though they're slightly costlier, they are now completely made with fresh fruit. I don't get them often, but when i do it's been a nice treat.
To the actual facilities: I attend classes more so now than before and have specific recommendations. For Spinning (indoor cycling) I highly suggest Helen (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning) and Kelly (Monday and Wednesday mornings, and sometimes subs at night). I also encourage taking an TurboKick class with Rebecca (Monday night, Friday morning), or trying her Bagboxing on Wednesday nights. The Bagboxing is not what I originally started with a couple years ago. Previously it was an hour of boxing, changed to thirty minutes of boxing; currently it's morphed into an hour of circuit training mixed with some bagboxing throughout. I don't mind the changes as much but I really do miss the full hour of bagboxing. To make up for it I try to make it in to the gym when I can go at the bags on my own.
There are numerous other classes such as BodyBar, Yoga, etc, but they just don't work for me and my knees. One, Zoomba seems to be the newest hit but I tried it and left, unimpressed with the instructor's lack of rhythm (something you would expect with the type of music playing).
Overall, I still enjoy Powerhouse, and hope any more changes are for the better. -

I joined as a Charter member November 2005 and the gym opened up January 2006. I love Powerhouse and will miss it if I actually move away from this location. The staff is extremely friendly, encouraging, and even notice when I've been away for a couple weeks. So far, the only negatives about this gym is the lack of a pool and shorter hours compared to other chains but it's definitely worth it!
When it comes to cardio machines there are plenty, from stair climbers, both types of bikes, to ellipticals and treadmills. All have their own tv screen attached and provide a place to plug in headphones and change channels/volume. There is a large section of machines though I only use the back ones as I use the free weights mostly. And speaking of free weights, there are at least five benches, a long wall full of dumbells, and plenty of options available even during busy times.
They have tons of classes available: Spinning, Body Bar, Turbo Kick, Bag Boxing, Cardio Sculpt, Pilates, Yoga and others added all the time. I never participated in classes at prior gyms but the instructors are so exciting I couldn't help it, so now I am obsessed with Spinning and BagBoxing. There are morning and evening options for Spinning which is important for me since my schedule changes all the time and I love the varying options.
The women's locker room is spacious and also has a sauna and five shower stalls (one handicap equipped). They even provide spray deodorant, hair spray, mouth wash, and tampons and pads (ooh, options, nice).
My five-year-old loves the childcare area and looks forward to going to the gym as much as I do. You can either pay for it each use or have it added to your dues monthly, which is what I do and definitely a cost saver.

Any Starbucks review of mine is based on atmosphere and friendliness of the people working there. Considering the person helping me didn't even crack a half-ass smile nor look at me, this store didn't fare too well. Two stars only because of the large amount of outdoor seating which provided some entertaining people and dog watching to pass time.
I had just met up with someone, was hungry, but not starving, and in need of a place to just sit and talk. Broke ass that I have been lately, I kept it simple with a bagel and plain cream cheese plus a cup for water. The asiago bagel was toasted and very very yummy. In fact, I'd have to say it's the best damn bagel I have had in years. Specifically, not since I lived in the Seattle UDistrict and used to get some scrumptious whole wheat bagels at this organic store while waiting for my morning bus on the Ave. So yeah, damn fine bagel. Toasted, yet chewy. Perfect! *sigh*
As I mentioned earlier, there is ample seating, with high back booths even, which is nice since I don't like sitting down and feeling as if if everyone is watching me. Due to the lunch time, it got a bit noisy after a few minutes and a long line of people accumulated after I was served.
I doubt I'll be back as it's more than a hop skip and nearly two hour journey from home, but hell, i enjoyed my bagel. About all I can ask for these days.

The Spot

Neighborhood: La Jolla
Last week, my friend and I stopped in for lunch around 12:30PM. The place was quiet, a few people sprinkled throughout, and we were seated right away.
There were a number of items on the menu that looked scrumptious but both of us kept to the build a burger option. I was thrilled they offered wheat buns, and ordered the burger with pepper-jack, caramelized onions, bacon and honey mustard. Instead of having fries on the side we ordered the basket of fries as an appetizer so we could munch in advance.
The fries kicked ass! Covered in garlic they were still crunchy, something I rarely find. Our burgers were heavenly, perfect all we could say every couple minutes was "omg, this is good". Bacon wasn't overdone but I could still bite into it without taking the whole piece at once.
I found it odd they didn't put the honey mustard on the burger before bringing it out to me, but at the same time it gave me control over exactly how much I used. That, and their paper napkins were tiny, like the ones used for drinks. Not a deal breaker but definitely not what I'm used to. Then again, I'm a neat freak.
Prices compared to typical bar/grill are slightly higher but when you consider the location in La Jolla they're damn near cheap. Menus are posted outside the restaurant as well.
I am definitely taking my girl back here when we make it to La Jolla this summer. My mouth is watering just remembering the yumminess!

Baily's Old Town Temecula
Category: Restaurants
We started the night at Pechanga, waiting far too long in line for Caberet so left and headed over to Baily's. I suppose there's ample parking if you're there early, but the back lot was full when we got there. Combined with the crowd for the Stampede across the street, we ended up parking up a couple blocks on a side street.
When I go out to a club my purpose is twofold..to get a buzz and to dance. At first I was thrilled upon walking into Bailys because there was some decent music going on. Turns out it's the same ole same ole stuff stuff found on the radio, minus the good dancing beats. Oh, we had a nice thirty minutes of a teaser at one point where they played a nice mash up of 80s, 90s, new stuff, but just when we were used to the good stuff they went back to the crappy music.
Even with the music not exactly what I wanted, I was just thrilled to dance somewhere local. We ran into someone else we knew and kinda danced near each other. Mostly, we tried to keep from getting hit by someone as it was pretty crowded. At one point a chic spilled her beer all down my back, but I totally saw that one coming the way she was moving around. It wouldn't have annoyed me as much, but the bathrooms were very difficult to get to considering you had to plow through so many rude people. Gah, give me San Diego gays and queens any day over the Temecula Valley snots.
Ah, yes, speaking of rude. The only place to get our drinks was outside at this makeshift bar. Off my friend and I went, standing in line for over ten minutes. Then, once we got up to the front the bartenders completely ignored us while helping two other parties that stepped right in front of us. When they did get around to us it took forever and they had to ask what our drinks were a second time.
Yeah, it's a club/bar/nightlife atmosphere but I've been to so many others with better quality drinks, and music. It's a shame that something so desperately needed in Temecula is such a difficult thing to accomplish.
I might go here again, but only if the people I'm with insist on staying local. For a $7 cover and crappy service...I'd rather go restock my vodka, crank the music at home and dance to my own good times.

The Brass Rail
Category: Gay Bars
Neighborhood: Hillcrest
Saturday night, my friend and I got there around 10:30PM so it wasn't packed, yet gave us some time to suck our first drink down and start dancing in place. Aaah, Latin night! Just the right mix for dancing, and that I did for over three hours.
As before, the bathrooms are clean, well stocked, something I truly appreciate when heading out and about.
Bonus for this trip...a female go-go dancer. Woo hoo!! About time! A nice extra eye candy was a treat, as the club is usually packed with gay gays or women who just aren't my type. Totally would have tipped her but I was broke by the time she got up there in her sparkly boobs and fishnets.
Small bummer, TBR no longer has the news racks of GLB papers by the front door but hey, that was just something we'd grab on our way out in the past.
I'm happy my favorite place was still what I expected, so I'll definitely be going back.

I'm not gay and I live nowhere near San DIego but this is my favorite place to go when I want to feel the music through my body and dance until they kick me out.
My close friend and I were pretty annoyed with the high covers and lack of variety in clubs up here in the Valley (Silk/Eagle's Nest...got old really quick) and started venturing South. Seeing as how he'd lived in San Diego for a chunk of his life and knew the Hillcrest scene quite well, this was one of the first clubs he took me to to have a taste.
We plan it so we're there for Saturday night, Latino night (Noche Latino Americano w/ DJ Ruben Casas (of Bacchaus Hous) & DJ KLaus). Oh yeah, he gets to look at his lovely Latinos and I get to dance to the awesome music. Sometimes the main dance floor is a bit too crowded for my liking but then I just dance on the bottom floor (only one step separating the two).
My friend and I have gone to The Brass Rail when he's dressed in drag (after one of his shows) and while the lovely Rich did a double-take at first, and a few others scowled, we were both welcomed and not treated any differently.
I like that if we wanted we could sit down in a sort of lounge area, but we usually park it with one of the standing tables seeing as how I rarely sit still long enough. There's also an outdoor patio area where all the smokers go but on the extremely packed nights it's a great place to get a bit of fresh air. Or talk to an incredibly handsome bouncer dude, Rich (hey, I was thrilled to find a straight guy), who remembers us each time we return.
Both my friend and I have great service at the bar and when the guy didn't know my beloved Lynchburg Lemonade, he quickly learned (and remembers on following visits). I know it's a small detail, but I'm particularly fond of their tall skinny glasses for my mixed drinks as they're easier to hold when dancing or walking around. Of course, no preference whatsoever when I'm downing shots for the sole purpose of feeling beyond buzzed.
Bathrooms are ok...nothing special, but at least they have doors that lock and a supply of TP, a step up from many other places where I've had to get creative in that department (Rich's, Bacchaus House).
The only con for me is they shoo ya outta there around 1:30AM - 1:45 AM which with a $7 cover is completely lame. Of course, if you're winding up your night and show up after 1AM there's no cover. Sweetness!
I did enjoy the atmosphere and the giant booths that easily fit three on each side. What I didn't appreciate is having to finish my drink completely before ordering another one. What's up with that? Especially when it takes awhile for the drink to get there.
It was a last minute decision to head to Yard House so I didn't get to enjoy the full happy hour time period. Ending HH at 6pm doesn't seem right, especially since most people get off work at 5 or 5:30PM.
Oh, the music sucked. It's one thing to have 80s and 90s for background music, which I enjoy, but they kept playing the slow songs...depressing as hell.
