Black jack quesadilla ($5.00)
My boyfriend saved me a taco when Kogi truck was stationed in Monrovia last night. So this morning, he microwaved it for me & it was my breakfast. When I saw it, I thought WOW it's really small & that was $2?! When I tasted it, I thought WOW this is it?! & then a few seconds later, I got to the meaty zone.. I thought WOW this is pretty good. Out of everything he ordered ($47.00 worth), he liked the black jack quesadilla the most. It looks pretty appetizing on the website & I love salsa verde!
I have yet to try the other items on their menu. However, I will never stand in that ridiculous line unless it's a 15 minutes wait.

Hsi Lai Temple
Categories: Buddhist Temples, Chinese
I came here for Chinese school every Saturday when I was little. I remember my teacher wanted me & this other kid to get up & sing a song we learned in class, it was so embarrassing :( I enjoyed my origami class, where I was taught to fold different kinds of animals.. & quickly forgot as I grew up.
Parking -- Good luck finding a parking on Chinese New Years. I had to park ~10 streets away from the temple, but luckily the temple provided a bus that took us back & forth from a pickup zone. Other than that, pretty big parking lot! Enjoy the view.
Food -- Yes! They have a vegetarian buffet here. It used to be $5 per person but now it's $7. They open at 11:30am & beware, they close at 1:30pm. Well, I had to eat here every Saturday so it sorta scared me away.. BUT they offer yummy food! They ALWAYS have rice. Sometimes they have rice vermicelli noodles or thick noodles, it really depends because they always change it around every week. Few vegetarian dishes to choose from. They also have tempura, beware.. the sweet potato tempura goes by quick. Have fun waiting in line! :)

Parking -- I never liked their parking, even though it's somewhat spacious.. it gets filled rather quickly. With Boiling Crab right next door, street parking is packed too! But luckily tonight, drove right in & someone was leaving. Score! :)
Ambiance -- This place is gigantic! Booths on the left & right side of the restaurant & the regular tables are right in the middle. ATM machine at the door, very convenient! First timers may not know they're cash only but they have nothing to worry about now. Boba World is in front of the door, for all those people who just want a drink or some dessert.
Service -- It wasn't really packed when I walked in, there were still a lot of tables but I didn't understand why I had to wait 5 minutes. I saw numerous tables that were available & chairs ready to meet my bottom! But 5 minutes wait wasn't bad, I guess they were just preparing the booths instead of chairs for my bottom. Pretty great service for an Asian place though. Didn't feel like I was at an Asian restaurant, lmao. Drinks came promptly after ordering. Food didn't take too long either, probably 10 minutes?
Food -- They offer different cuisines, which is great for people who can't decide on just one.
1) Spicy seafood spaghetti ($7.50) - My favorite dish, I don't really like anything else except for their spicy spaghetti. Mussel, shrimp, imitation crab, mushroom, basil & tomato! I'll eat anything if it has mussels & mushrooms are a plus!
2) Seafood pad thai ($7.75) - I've never liked pad thai, not once & probably never. It was sweet too! :(
3) Thai bbq chicken rice ($7.50) - Wasn't a fan of their fried rice, but I did enjoy eating their chicken! Well marinated & it came with some kind of dipping sauce, it tasted like honey but it could've been something else, lmao.
4) Lemon iced tea ($1.75) - Yuck! I settled for this instead of getting something from Boba World. Why? I had 2 boba drinks prior to coming here.. Didn't want to make it 3 :b
Again, I'll only come here for spicy spaghetti, preferably seafood! ;)
Ambiance -- Just lovely. I was always captivated by this place because of its decorations, really makes you feel like you're in a rainforest, minus the actual rain of course. My party of 3 was seated immediately, right next to the elephants, cool! Every 30 minutes, there was a storm (flashing lights & roaring noises filled the restaurant). Every 15 minutes, the animals come to life. I was so amused at the elephant next to our table because it kept raising its trunk & it looked like it was about to touch my friend's face. If you look up, you will see a sky with stars, every once in awhile a shooting star can be spotted too! Numerous fish tanks can be seen, like my friend said "It's the cast from Nemo!"
Service -- Our waitress was such an optimistic (edit: woops, I meant to say enthusiastic hahaha!) person. I'm not sure if they're supposed to be or if she's just like that. Either way, it certainly brightened up our mood because we were hungry, which results in being grumpy. She came to check up on us from time to time & she was nice enough to split 3 checks for us.
Food -- I ordered the Rainforest Burger ($9.99) & I substituted the potato chips for safari fries (additional $0.99) w/ raspberry iced tea ($2.79). My 2 friends ordered the chicken sandwich w/ potato chips ($9.99) & Lava Nachos ($12.99). I couldn't believe how DRY the burger was. Inside the bun was angus beef, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes & an onion ring. I put some ketchup on it hoping it would taste better but it was still DRY. It was a mission to finish that thing & when I did, I was traumatized by its dryness. I enjoyed the fries more, they were thin, my favorite! I tried some of my friend's nachos & they were mediocre.
I'm not coming here anymore! Their dry burger scared me away.

MPV BBQ Seafood Restaurant

Service -- Hard to get their attention but occasionally one of the waitor/waitress would walk by so that's a perfect time to ask for whatever you may need, or think you may need..
Food -- Free soup, free rice & free tea. I love lunch specials, but who doesn't?! I ALWAYS get their kung pao chicken. The portions, I admit, have grew smaller. It used to be quite generous, but not anymore. Also if you order 4 dishes (I think), you get a complimentary dish of shrimp accompanied by soy sauce. According to Antonio A, you get the free dish when you purchase $20 or more, 4 dishes sounds about right. I'm not 100% sure if they still have this offer, the last time I came was probably a month or two ago. It should be written somewhere in the restaurant, the only downside is that it's in Chinese.
1) Pineapple bun $1.20 - A flat pineapple bun, I'm not used to it looking that way! I didn't like this because I remember it had some fillings inside, my mom on the other hand loved it.
2) Raisin danish $1.35 - One of my favorites.
3) Pork sung bun $1.10 - Another one of my favorites.
4) Frosted almond danish $1.50 - Wow, I was SO thirsty after eating this. Extremely dry. Wanted to try it because it looked appealing but I'm skipping it next time.
I also bought a mixed fruit cake for my mom's birthday a year ago. I was pretty disappointed because it was pretty dry. Even my parents brought it up as we were eating it, guess I'm not getting their cakes here again! ;( All the cakes & dessert they have on display seem delicious, I will go back to try them when I crave for JJ Bakery.

Toro Sushi Bar & Grill
Categories: Sushi Bars, Japanese
Might be hard to spot, but just know it's right next to the freeway when you enter the plaza & you're set! Happy hunting! Your tummy will thank you afterwards! ;)
My boyfriend's cousin whooped us up with an appetizer sampler. Monkey balls ($8.00) is definitely something I'll order in the future. Stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer, I can't ask for more. Toro poppers ($8.00) was pretty tasty too! Their tapas are yummy, I can't wait to come back to try more.
1) Super diablo roll $16.00 - First bite, automatically became my favorite roll ever. Portion's pretty generous & it's topped w/ langostino. Can't leave this place without trying this!
2) Sexy mexi roll $11.50 - The jalapenos on here are actually spicy! So if you don't do spicy, simply remove the jalapeno since it's only placed on top! Pretty tasty, I like!
Super diablo roll is the way to go!!! ;)

Parking -- Located inside a plaza where Hong Kong Supermarket is. Finding parking during a weekday won't be difficult because there's plenty of spaces. However, during the weekend.. good luck.
Food -- I usually get #1 on their menu, it's regular banh mi with ham, veggies & all that good stuff. Only $2 & if you buy 2, you get 1 free. I also enjoy getting their vermicelli w/ chicken, shrimp & bbq pork for $3.50. You can also customize it yourself if you ask them, they'll be happy to do it for you.. or atleast the times I asked, they were really nice about it. If you want 4 items, like say an eggroll, it'll cost you $3.75. Drinks are buy 1 get 1 free. My favorite is their honey green tea. Their boba are nice & chewy & occasionally I get their pudding if I see that it's fresh. Honey green tea or milk tea are my usual choices though, yum.
Service -- The ladies that work here are really nice! Service might be really slow if it's crowded so don't blame them. There's about 3-4 workers at the counter with like 10 customers on weekends, & yes you'll probably run into a customer that orders a sh*tload of things so be patient with the ladies. I love how they let you customize your own vermicelli if none of the ones that are sitting on the counter interest you.
Cheap food, great taste & closeby. You have my heart!
