I couldn't believe how packed this place could get!
My parents and I went here to celebrate my birthday. We ordered 2 french onion soups, an ahi tartar, a seared ahi salad, and the steamed moi.
I have to give the french onion soup 5+ stars. My dad who ALWAYS complains about everything that he eats actually LOVED the soup. WoW! I'm very glad that this place made a soup to my dad's liking because it can really make or break a dinner.
I didn't care for the ahi tartar...and I didn't even taste the seared ahi because I don't like wasabi. The steamed moi was good, but it really didn't seem THAT moist or THAT flavorful.
The waiter suggested a great pinor noir...something "ridge". I don't remember anymore.
I don't know if I'd rush back, but I'd go again.
But I did today....and landed upon this mochi place and fell in love. First of all, I love mochi...and second, their prices are cheaper than Shirokiya...YES!
Love it...and will return again soon!

I sat down, and asked for a vegan, no oil dish and they said basically they didn't have anything...and suggested that I'd have salad with no dressing. So I did....and I added avocados. I think they used oil when making the walnuts and pears in the salad...but they said there was no oil...so I just believed them...
Thanks CPK for working with such an awkward request. I'll be sure to return when I'm able to eat food-food again.

I like the grilled vegetable salad, white pizza, spinach and artichoke dip w/ pita bread, split pea and barley soup, white pizza, margarita pizza, and the RED VELVET cake!

One had a description right there, but the other didn't so again I asked the guy at the counter, "What does this one taste like?"....and he turns around, opens a cabinet and totally flustered, turns around and say, "I don't know." Then he goes and asks his co-worker that saved him the first time...and he answers my questions.
I wish it stopped there...but it didn't.
So I asked, "Can I get this iced?"...and he said, "Sure! Which cup, the hot cup or the cold drink cup?" Um....O_o I just asked for iced tea...why would I want it in a hot cup? So, I point to the cold drink cup. He then opens the tea bag, puts it in the cold drink cup, pours water on it, and dumps some ice into it. He holds it up thinking O_o why isn't the tea coming out of the bag. Why is the water still clear?
So he looks at me and says, "I should put it in hot water first, huh?" Um....ya! So he grabs the hot cup, and puts the tea bag in there...and pours hot water into the cup. Then he immediately puts it into the cold drink cup and stops before putting ice into it...because it is obvious that it will over flow if he did.....so he grabs a bigger cold drink cup, pours it in, drops some ice, and hands it to me.
It was luke warm. Hello? I asked for iced...and yes, the minimal ice that was in there melted instantaneously and I had to sit through my meeting with room temperature tea. Gross. And I had to pay over $3....WT...
I sure hope Panya trains their staff a bit better.

I told her I'm on this special challenge, where I'm not allowed any dairy or oil, and I asked her if she had any without either. I think I totally stumped her because she went to the back, and pulled out an empty bag of cocoa? and started to read the label. That took a while...but then she's like, well, there's cocoa butter, are you allowed that? Actually I'm not quite sure...but whatever....which one?
So she points to the dark chocolate. It's literally just a tiny block of dark chocolate. Sure...why not? And we got it.
I don't know if it's because I haven't had dessert in SOO long, but it was pretty yummy. Although, I don't think that the price matched the size. It literally was like those Andes chocolates....2 pieces for over $6? Crazy.
And to top it off, they weren't perfect! There were air bubble chips and defects to the chocolate. If you're gonna sell them at such high prices, they should look perfect...IMHO.
But don't worry, I'll go back when I'm off this silly challenge to have some of the other delectable looking ones.

And they were have this small fridge to the left of the door with the items you can grab-and-go with. Other than that, the workers are busy choppin' up their next concoction. Pretty trippy if you ask me.
Anyways, what I liked about this place was that it's vegetarian friendly. Ok...so VEGAN friendly...and even more RAW friendly. Ok...so I'm not extreme...but currently I'm on this crazy E2 cleanse and avoiding all meat, eggs, dairy, and OIL. Yes...OIL. So when I asked the lady about it....she was so helpful in looking for items that they didn't use oil in. I ended up getting this not-so-pleasant-looking mac nut paste/dip and flax seed crackers, and again a not-so-pleasant-looking date energy bar.
Oh ho ho ho...but don't be fooled. Just because it doesn't look appetizing, it doesn't mean it tastes bad. It had so much yummy, goodness, flavor, I was totally blown away. Are you serious!?! This (excuse my language) cr*pping looking thing tastes THIS GOOD!?!? AMAZING! Yes...just try it.
I loved the friendly staff, and the healthy food that actually tastes wonderful...and I will be back for more soon!

Had a 6:30pm reservation, showed up and walked right in. No wait. Awesome. Got seated...they took our broth order (kimchee and mushroom) and within minutes they brought it out and we were ready to eat!
Friends and I all grabbed a few veggies and other ingredients and cooked away!
I personally haven't been to SHC so I can't compare, but my friends have and they said that they loved it here better because...
1) No time limit
2) No waiter hovering over you to see if you're done
3) Spacious
4) You get your own table, you don't have to share with strangers
5) Better tasting broth
6) Friendlier staff
7) No waiting hours to eat
...and basically said they could do without the free dessert.
Well, whatever the case, I enjoyed it here and would come back again. ^__^

The two best things about Shirokiya is the "limited time only" shops that come to Shirokiya, and the Korean food that they sell there. Ok, so the snacks that they sell there are good too. You gotta always make sure that anything you buy there isn't expired though.
