Things I love about this Sprinkles location:
+ it's in an AMAZING shopping center with tons of great stops including health food stores (to balance out the cupcakes, duh), large department stores, lots of restaurants, and tons of other legit shopping establishments
+ it is NEVER busy. I've been to this location several times and I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes to be helped...compared to the Sprinkles in New Port where I had to wait over an hour...it was like a line for a Disneyland ride, only the end result wasn't as fun
+ the staff is super nice and friendly
+ my puppy is obsessed with their pupcakes, which I think are totally cute and such a fun gift for a dog owner
+ holiday-themed sprinkles "dots" on their cupcakes (orange and black for halloween etc.)
+ the most delicious strawberry cupcake in. the. world.
Can't wait to move to the bay area so I can stop by here more often!
The service was impeccable. We were greeted immediately and taken quickly to our table which was situated right in front of the kitchen (so much fun watching everyone cook!). Since we were celebrating a milestone birthday, we dressed to the nines but the atmosphere---while posh---was very relaxed and I would have felt comfortable even if I wasn't wearing a cocktail dress, heels, and a vintage cardigan.
Our server was very attentive, enthusiastic, and helpful. I got the special lemonade and it was amazing. For dinner I had the mozzarella salad and the raviolis. I've never liked truffle oil, but lemme tell ya, REAL truffles are out-of-this-world delicious. I practically licked my plate clean!
The sweetest part of the night is when our server brought dessert they had put a piece of chocolate on the plate that said "Happy Birthday!" and he lit a candle for me when he placed it on the table! It was the perfect ending to a very wonderful meal.
Even their website is overflowing with elegance and charm. I can't wait to have another reason to celebrate, because off to Boulevard it will be!

Tartine Bakery
Categories: Bakeries, Sandwiches
Neighborhood: Mission
The pictures of Tartine's desserts and baked goods really don't do them justice. You can't get the sense of how moist yet flaky the pie crust is, or how perfectly the dark chocolate shell and layer of caramel combine to create the most delicious pie base everrrr. If you haven't tried anything from Tartine yet, and like me, doubt it's deliciousness...just drive by there and the line winding around the corner will provide you with the evidence that yes, Tartine IS that friggin' good.
My favorites are the banana cream pie (duh) and the coconut cream pie. It's better to come earlier in the day because it's likely that they'll sell out near closing time.
Some not-so-amazing things about Tartine: 1. the wait can sometimes be horrendously long, but when there's an out-of-this-world banana cream pie waiting at the end of it all is forgiven. 2. there's only ONE bathroom and for some reason the people that frequent Tartine seem to take a long time in there. 3. it can get REALLY, REALLY hot inside the bakery which is okay during winter months, but almost unbearable during summer.

Costco Wholesale
Categories: Tires, Wholesale Stores, Department Stores
Now that I'm a vegetarian and don't really eat dairy the whole "free sample magic" I used to feel is gone, but, I mean, that was just icing on an already very iced cake so I can't hold their meat-centric samples against them.
The other night I came in for some last minute wedding supplies (wedding is tomorrow!! the bride is my cousin) and had trouble finding the item I needed---flameless tea lights. Not one but TWO Costco employees searched the entire store for me twice! One of them was Sean, just a normal employee, and I didn't happen to catch the other gentleman's name but he was a manager. Anyway, after about 30 minutes of still not finding the item on the floor (the system said they had 150+ in stock), Sean took my name and number and told me he'd check again then call me later in the evening. He ended up not finding them, but he called me and gave me the item # and the direct line for marketing to call back first thing in the morning. In the end, they had been tucked away on the loading dock and were unloaded right in time for me to pick them up when the store opened.
Moral of the story: crazy amazing customer service. XOXO Costco.
Mira (the owner) is so personable and really takes the time to get to know her clients and their wedding parties. In fact, I saw Mira at Galletto one evening last week and she talked to me for at least 5 minutes about my cousin's upcoming wedding! I don't know too many shop owners who would come up to a person who has only been in their store twice while they're at a party to say hello, much less carry on a long conversation!
Mira truly cares about each bride that walks through the doors of her salon and it shows. I'm sure I'll have lots more positive things to update with after my cousin's wedding next week!
P.S. I may or may not have browsed the racks for my eventual wedding to Mr. Wonderful...and the selection is great! So many beautiful gowns and most of them were very reasonably priced (thank gawd).

Great selection of name brand clothing and shoes. I'm on a sort of "not buying new clothing" kick so I wasn't doing any serious shopping, but I spotted some super cute pale mint peep-toe pumps and figured I'd give them a try. They were bonkers cute and for only 18$ for Steven Maddens (which did not even look like they were ever worn), I had to make an exception to my non-shopping plan.
They also have a large stock of used Halloween costumes right now. None of the costumes were super inexpensive, but you'll definitely save a good 15-20$ at least...and for something you're only going to wear ONCE, why not get it for as cheap as possible?

We came here for lunch and sat outside because it was gorgeous out. The staff wasn't really paying attention when we walked in so we had to get their attention to let them know we wanted to sit outside. Our waitress was nice and brought us water right away...and also came back mid-meal to re-fill our glasses which was great.
The menu is CRAZY LONG and has so many options it was hard to decide what to get. We ended up sharing the pesto toast with sundried tomatoes (starter) and the coconut curry noodles with tofu (entree). The entree was GIANT and definitely would have been more than enough to feed us both. Since we also ordered the pesto toast, a lot of our entree went uneaten. I'd definitely recommend sharing a plate and/or taking leftovers to-go!
The pesto toast was delish. The bread was nice and crispy and there was a nice contrast between the tart sundried tomatoes and the pesto spread...nothing was too overwhelming and there were lots and lots of sundried tomatoes.
The coconut curry noodles were tasty as well, but they were a little bland (perhaps not enough spice?), but a bit of salt fixed that problem. They definitely didn't skimp on the veggies or tofu---there were tons of mushrooms and pieces of tofu and broccoli.
Towards the end of our meal the service got a little slow because it started getting busier, but I didn't mind much because it was nice catching up with my friend. I'll def be coming back to Herbivore in the future...perhaps for breakfast next time!

The Boutique at Salon Salon
Categories: Women's Clothing, Beauty and Spas
After spending a year living in China...The Boutique is the first place I went shopping (hours after my plane landed!) and I found the cutest Nicole Miller dress EV-ER. Pretty much every dress I wore to high school dances came from here because they keep such an amazing stock of beautiful formal wear.
The prices on new items can be pretty steep (sometimes), but their sales are TDF. Seriously, I've stumbled upon some full-on fashion miracles on the sales rack in the back of the store. And, I must say, even Nordstrom's doesn't stock as many fabulous Nicole Miller items as The Boutique. I'm a Nicole Miller girl through and though!
Some items are geared toward an older crowd, but they're definitely not short on stylish ready to wear for fabulous 20somethings!
I snagged two crazy fabulous copies of Gone with the Wind last week...totally unique and awesome! One was actually a two book set, a little pricey at $35 but oh so worth it.
I love this place because they only stock QUALITY books, nothing torn or beaten up on the shelves here.

For used books in the central valley...Yesterday's Books is the end all be all.
They have a great selection of practically any kind of used book you could want. I've purchased a ton of classic lit books here, as well as a few vintage cookbooks which I've used in paintings and other fun projects.
The store is divided by genre/book type and then the texts are in alphabetical order by author's last name. They don't have a database of their stock, but I haven't ever been to a used book store that had a database of their book titles...so this seems like the norm.
Prices range depending on book age, title, and wear and tear, usually the books I've purchased have been between $3 and $6. They also have special edition books which can be pricey, usually starting around $35 minimum (but they're vintage and seriously so cool if you're a book collector!).
Yesterday's Books is also a great place to sell your unused books if you don't have a large bookshelf to store your texts...or just aren't particularly attached to the books you read. Of course, they don't buy EVERYTHING, but I've always managed to get a few bucks each time I go in with some items to sell, and if you sell them for store credit you get more $$$ than if you sell them for cash.
Second, the steamed white rice comes out in the shape of a flower...how friggin' cute is that?! I love it when I can tell that the chefs/staff actually care about food presentation.
Third, the food here is, well, tasty! I kept debating if I should get a hot tea or diet pepsi to go with my meal, and made the bad choice of diet pepsi...totally flat and too syrupy (and also a rip-off at $2). Still, though, I love Tasty Thai and will be back for more soon!

No wait, very friendly staff (I asked a lot of questions about what flavor they liked most and they were happy to help me!), super cute decor, delish cupcakes (duh).
One downside...they don't make their Pupcakes on site! I guess that makes sense when you think about it since they need the oven space to make human cupcakes, but it was disappointing to hear that they didn't have any in stock and wouldn't until the following day. Waaaah. Tater Tot my pomeranian loves pupcakes more than he loves barking at people who walk by my house, and he LOVES barking at people who walk by my house.
Fave flavors: strawberry, coconut, vanilla.
