Love this place. I'm hard-pressed to think of another place in Portland that does such a fantastic job of melding big city sophistication, NW casual and neighborhood hang as West Cafe. The decor and ambiance are perfect -- with a fire going in the bar on cool days. The owners, Sean & Doug, are super friendly and always willing to accommodate. Food options are varied and creative, with an emphasis on healthy (which I'm always looking for), and they always have a smart, affordable selection of wines by the glass. When I bring friends here, they always say how comfortable it feels -- like being in someone's living room -- and remark that they're surprised they haven't heard of it before.
