Takhrai Thai

MMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Dang good Thai food! Takhrai Thai was recommended to me by a friend and I thank her every time we eat here. The menu is awesome, the spice is cooked in and not sprinkled on, the staff is super nice and the decor is quaint and elegant. The price is not bad either. The big seller for me was that they had a good wine selection...I recommend the Chateau St. Michelle Reisling, beautiful pairing with Thai food. We got the yellow curry, phad see ew and one other dish plus for desser little fried bananas - rice came with the curry and we opted for brown rice. For us it's convenient, not overly busy and surprisingly perfect.

Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon & Half Marathon

This was my first half marathon and I was not disappointed. The race turn out was phenomenal, well laid out, lots of aid stations and WOW - the runner participation absolutely ROCKED! There were 27,000 people. Packet pick up was extremely well coordinated, the expo was cool and the entertainment was....well, it was. The course was flat and easy - the spectators were great for the first part of the half, the second half was definitely harder to get through - the scenery was repeat since the course was an out and back, and the crowds had died down by this point. It was WICKED COLD! I know for the next race that I don't need to be there so early based on my coral number but while I was waiting enjoyed the companionship of my fellow runners. The end was well organized from medals, pictures, post race fuel and so fourth. The great part about the race being on the strip is that you can get a room close to the start line, I stayed at the Monte Carlo and used the distance to the start/finish line as a warm up/cool down. Disadvantage about staying on the strip is if you are sensitive to smoke, it seeps through the vents - ack! I'm not sure if I would do it again as I'm on a mission to do 25 races in 25 different states - but I would most definitely encourage others to do this race especially if it's a first rate - great baseline to build on! 2:11 was my finishing time...aiming to break 2 on the next one :D

I absolutely loved this experience. I went with a girlfriend while visiting her in San Francisco and the restaurant was small, intimate, trendy with a delicious menu and fabulous wine selection. The staff was friendly and helpful and the decor was swanky. The location is good and ever so slightly hidden. Had a good time and would definitely return on another trip.

Chain. Restaurant. However...it is one of the better ones. Went here during the week for dinner with my daughter and we split a salad and a pizza plus dessert and it was good. The service was a bit slow, however friendly and the considering the food being so "standard" it was okay, but the bill was on the pricier side for mediocre food. It's alright.

Dudley's Bakery

This is a yearly tradition...and thank goodness, otherwise we would be broke! We hit Dudley's every fall when we head up to Julian in October. We get a pie, bread and whatever else we find. The pie is to die for, however if you have allergies - make sure you read the ingredients closely - states contains wheat and egg, but apparently butter is not considered a dairy anymore...anyways, to be cautious. BUT...the bakery items are amazing - we left with 5 loaves of bread and a bag of cookies that were so amazing. We did have lunch there and the sandwich was good but the younger staff was a bit ignorant about having to follow special precautions with a customer that has allergies and that was a bit disturbing. But the older gentlemen was very good about following the precautions and when it comes down to the goods that are being purchased...that is what counts, and the goods, are good!

Poway Sushi Lounge

For Poway, this was a phenomenal find! BUT....if you are looking for traditional Japanese food, do NOT go here this is more of the new age fancy sushi. But it was genuinely good. The location is unexpected, the staff is non-intrusive and the menu items are good. Our favorite was the spicy tuna and tempura. The teriyaki we could have passed on and the creme brulee, which seemed like it came out of the freezer and warmed up...we will probably try the green tea ice cream next time. We have not been back since our first visit back in mid September, which is generally a good indication we are not die hard fans - but for convenient, reasonably priced sushi in the 'hood...it was good. The location is small, lots of parking and the sushi bar guys are friendly!

The professionalism and knowledge fo the staff is more than Road Runner, that is for sure. The staff here is truly analyzing based on an area of expertise. Granted I still don't have a shoe that works for me, I'm headed back tomorrow in hopes of trying (finding) another shoe. Their selection is not as large as Road Runner, but what they have - is what every true runner needs. Additionally, they have a running group - I personally am not a part of because it's not convenient to my schedule but a friend of mine has truly benefited from it, and I have incorporated some of his training into my own. But the staff, hands down is AWESOME! They even checked the football and baseball scores for me while I was test driving their shoes ;) Check 'em out!

I LOVE Road Runner for it's selection. It's my Disneyland...I love cruising the store and the online catalog and I am a VIP member. What has not won me over, and I think one of the items in which they try to pride themselves on, is their assessments of an individuals stride and fitting. I have had multiple assessments and all the times they have been off, I have to take their assessments and analyze it myself to find the right shoe. They just opened up their sports bra boutique and I am eager to check that out..hopefully it's not as weak as the stride assessment. One thing I have found though...is I take what I can gather from my assessment, then call the catalog/online phone number and I have gotten STELLAR help from them. Twice now they have nailed the shoe for me. The only reason I switched from my first shoe (after 5 pairs) is because physically I changed and needed to something to fit my gait and mileage. For the most part...love RR, and have referred numbers of people to them all over the US, but still would like more expertise. A shoe that doesn't work for me, usually results in an injury, so I get a bit frustrated...so I get a bit biased ;) And...DEFINITELY check out the outlet if you are in the area and take advantage fo the VIP membership, it allows you to try a shoe and return it if it doesn't work for you, in addition to a good discount and an occasional good coupon.

Surf Brothers Teriyaki

I can't quiet pin this place. It's convenient to my office, the service is super fast and I love the options but will have to have it a few more times to pin what's off. White rice, brown rice, no rice, all salad, chicken kabob teriyaki, pork kabob teriyak, combo...whatever - the combination I like. There's something lacking from making it stellar, but I'm not sure what exactly it is. I'll go back for sure, but if I found a different place equally as convenient and w/ the same options, would I switch...most likely. But for now...it's good! On a side note, the parking lot can be a pain at the lunch hour, but there is parking and the price is reasonable...again though...FAST and variety!

Santorini Island Grill

Love, love, love Santorini. We just popped in because we were wanting Greek food and didn't know where Daphne's was in the area. I will *never* go back to Daphne's after eating and Santorini...the food was absolutely delicious! We got the #18 - veggie platter - EVERYTHING on the plate had a nice flavor in which you could actually taste the seasoning. The hummus, falafel & dolmas were divine, the pita was fluffy with super nice texture and something about the Tiziki (sp?) sauce had a hint of something-something in it. The spanikopita was good - but pathetically will have to admit that I like it more greasy, habit :S The baklava...left me speechless! Even the dressing on the salad was better. Usually when I eat Greek food I have heart burn later...not tonight, it was heaven on a plate.  The owners happened to come in when while we were there, they are a friendly couple, everyone on staff is genuinely nice, but the wife took time to chit chat with us for a bit and you could tell there were regulars there, which I'm sure we will be soon too. She advised us that the special was truly a special, it took *her* and extensive amount of time..these are truly recipes from the homeland. There are a few other locations that are ran by other family members, Scripps will be our home location though based on convenience and experience. The price is reasonable - $22 for two of us and that includes tip. Can't wait to go back...Oh, they have lunch specials too - I always recommend checking a place out on a lunch menu, but I bet they get busy so if you're close by...dinner! I told my kids that Santorini will be Xmas dinner this year....that's how much we liked it! Hope the experience sticks...Thank you Santorini for such a pleasant surprise, we'll be back next week :)
