A pretty good salad/wrap/bowl place.  Most food is cold, but they have a few hot items.  Many vegan selections.  Gets busy at lunch, so stagger your break or order ahead of time online.

This 100% vegan restaurant features a variety of mocked animal ingredients to compliment its fresh fare on an extensive menu.

Only one vegan option, but it is FANTASTIC.

Many vegans miss baklava, as it has honey and often butter as well.  It's always at the felafel shops just staring back.  Well fret no longer friends, because Jaafer is here to help, and how!

Super buttery (almost to a suspicious degree), chewy, and moist.  And you do not have to special order it, it's just there.  So much better than any baklava I have ever had.

It may look unassuming from the strip-mall parking lot, but it's warm and friendly inside.  Staff was super nice and expedient.

I am told more vegan options are on the way.  They even catered a vegan wedding.

Definitely worth a trip out here, no matter where in the city you live. Show owner comment »

A vegan bakery that caters as well as provides yummy cupcakes at Quesadilla La Reina del Sur.  Good selection of flavors and they taste superlative.  They didn't taste like every other cupcake out there, they really kicked it up a notch.  And they're at a good price.

One stand has vegan strudel, and other pastries with clearly labeled ingredients.  Otherwise a pretty standard (and good) green market.

Don't be discouraged by the online menu, they have three veg*n items on the menu.  When I went, they had a SLT (seitan, lettuce, and tomato sandwich), The Bobby (Like SLT but more stuff), and some other sandwich with lots of veg.  The bobby had hot toasted bread and a warm pastrami-like seitan in it.  Really hit the spot.  All three were just under $7.  They also have homemade Italian ice which I imagine is vegan, but didn't get a chance to try this time.

One of those places where the food is better than the descriptions.  Took a ten-year-old omnivore here and she didn't notice the nuggets were not chicken.  Service is very attentive, decor is nice.  Chef Tanya is a little out there on her blog, but I didn't get any of that in the restaurant at all.  Just a nice homey place your parents would love.

Great food.  Great prices.  Many options like veggie sheep, veggie pork skin, and huitlacoche.  Vegan cheese available as well, which is great.  So many Mexican restaurants think that cow-cheese-heavy vegetarian dishes are enough to satisfy the veg*n community, and that only goes so far.  It's nice to see a place go that small extra step.

An omnivorous friend commented that meat substitutes, such as soy pork, should not be labelled "pork" unless they actually taste like that.  He said it's fine to have them, he just had a problem with the label.  Well, after a trip here, he admitted to have finally found a vegan pork that was good enough for the label.

And don't forget that street parking on Western is FREE.

For all the parents out there:  They have two kinds of high chairs, but no changing tables.

Just an FYI for all the veg heads out there.  The veggie schnitzel is not vegan as they use egg to bind the breading to the schnitzel.  But atleast they have a vegetarian version.  And there's always the booze.

Illinois' only Indonesion restaurant is now closed.  From AM's Facebook:

"To all of our great customers....Angin Mamiri's lease at our current location has expired and we will be closed for buisness for the time being. Our new loaction and re-opening has yet to be decided. The Angin Mamiri family would like to thank all the supporters during our first 2 years of buisness and we hope to continue promoting Indonesian Cuisine in the near future.

SAMPAI KETEMU LAGI !!!"

I hope they truly do relocate and reopen.
