A couple weeks ago we tried their take outservice. It was a cold bitter sunday evening and we didn't feel like going anywhere. We placed our order and was told they do deliveries! (Score!)
Tamia and I had their steak and rice while tony had their surf and turf (Shrimp & scallops with a fillet mignon).
The food was deliver within 45 minutes. The food was just awesome! Tamia loved the steak. They threw in complimentary french bread and a generous portion of aji sauce (I had put avocado sauce in my first review but had learned from the delivery guy it's aji sauce and it's pure pepper). It was such a wonderful dinner and on top of that we enjoyed it in the comfort of our home.
I'm glad we have another option to turn to for delivery service in the mayfair area. =)
We decided to give this place a try on a Friday evening. Walked in and we were seated instantly. I love the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant. There was candles lit everywhere and the server was nice. We love the avocado spicy dip that comes with the bread. It was so addicting! We started the evening off with their shrimp ceviche. Forget those little martini glass shrimp ceviche, this appetizer was served on a huge plate with jumbo shrimps! We were served french bread to accompany the ceviche and not tortilla chips. What a great concept, the bread soaked in all the citrus juice and spice. It was awesome! The thick slice of sweet potato is there to balance the citrus. Afterwards, we had their fried calamari and grilled steak with rice and potatoes. The dinner was good but not impressing. I loved how the cheese potatoes helped accentuate the steak and rice. I couldn't stop dipping my steak into the avocado spicy dip though, it gave it a good kick. Midway into our dining experience our service was a bit delayed because the tables were getting filled up. Nonetheless, our overall experience was good. We will definitely return again and give this place another try, order something different (can't wait to try their tamales!) or coming when it isn't so busy.

I love Eric. You should too. He's an awesome personal shopper. That extra 5th star is for him.
I know I don't like being hounded by employees but that does not excuse them from not exhibiting retail professionalism etiquette. I found myself on two separate occasion having a hard time getting an employee to help me because they are too busy flocking over the "ideal" shopper (you know, the one who is all dolled up, looking like she's going to spend a million bucks, got the whole store running around grabbing her things while she's in the fitting room trying everything but after 2+ hours decides to purchase just one item or nothing at all). Recently, my sister, her two kids, Mia and I came here to shop. I was trying to flag a worker down for an item off the mannequin while holding a handful of clothes. The employees I came across either told me 1) they'll get me someone or 2) they'll be right back. That was a big joke; no one came. So I was getting frustrated and was about to just throw everything on the table when Eric came by and kindly asked to help me. Magically, he turned the experience around with just a snap of a finger. He was so friendly, helpful and accommodating with my sister, the kids and I. He offered all of us water, he never once frowned or was mad in having to run around the store to grab me things, and he even selected a few awesome pieces for me to try on. Needless to say, I was very satisfied with the assistance I got from Eric and pleased with all my purchases (the blonde girl at the register that evening was awesome as well). I'm glad from now on I can just call Eric to arrange a time to shop with him (that means no more sad face on trying to get an employee's attention).
Love Akira. =)
You will NOT come out of this store empty-handed.
I hate shopping downtown or at the mall, simply being, I can't stand snotty folks walking around totting their name brand logo galore handbags, jeans, shirts, etc. Just because you have money it doesn't mean you have style. Just saying. =)
Anyway, I love that one step into Akira and I am welcomed by a large variety of clothing styles. All uniquely feminine looking without breaking the bank. It doesn't feel stuffy in there. The workers aren't hounding you. On top of that they have a chain shoes store right across the street! Buy your outfits here and walk across the street to finish it up with a pair of shoes or two.
Tony had came across this little cozy bakery during spring time while he was around the area for work on one of his truck stop. He bought a dozen (red velvet, s'mores, carrot cake, bittersweet chocolate, vanilla, and peanut butter) and took it home. My first impression of them was that they were beautiful looking cupcake yet overpriced! But, when I took my first bite into their red velvet cupcake, it was then and there, that I understood just why they were 3.50 for just a single cupcake.
All of the cupcakes have a unique taste to them. The structure of the cupcake is a basic cupcake, with a thin layer of ganache on top, and the two contrast frosting with a hint of sprinkles.
I tend to look and smell at my food before consuming it. The cupcake as I had mentioned before are just beautiful, the smell of it is sweet, and when you bite into it, you can instantly tell that all the layers are made to hit every little taste bud in your mouth. Their cupcakes are all amazing even the gluten free cupcakes.
I love the service here. It's a small bakery. Everything is baked from scratch in the morning and it's first come, first serve. So your best bet is to stop on by the bakery before 3pm. Most of the popular flavors are gone by the evening.
I have everyone in my family hooked on swirlz cupcakes. I even bought three dozen of them and gave them away to my clients. Needless to say they are all amazed and can't wait to order from the bakery during the holiday season.
Don't be discourage by the bad reviews. If you want to try this place, then I suggest you be you're own judge and try them out for yourself. Trust me, you won't regret it. =)

What do you mean what? Just wait in line.
You are too impatient? Then come back another time.
Believe me, it gets hectic at this place. First you have people waiting for their food all near the door, then you have another crowd waiting to order, a few people are squeezed in between trying to grab something from the fridge, then you have another wave of crowd all the way in the corner and they are those foodie taste tasters. Overwhelming huh? Indeed it is. But once you surpass all that, Goddess and Grocer is a really neat place. An upscale deli spot minus the overly rated upscale price. Their soup there is great. I've bought a couple of their salad dressings and fell in love with the herb one. Love it! Lug that darn bottle with me everyday to work. =)
I've tried their beef brisket sandwich and that was pretty flavorful. Loved how the kaiser roll complimented the beef. Went there after work one day and had their california dreaming. Huge sandwich. Ate half and was nearly full after that. Love the avocados and sprouts with my turkey sandwich. Their cobb salad wrap was okay. Nothing great about it. Just your average salad in a wrap.
I have yet to try their desserts. I will indeed come back for that. Every time I pass by their sweets counter, my mouth gets all watery and I just know I would order everything because I want to try everything, literally everything because I'm just weird like that. So I will save that crazy moment for another day. A less hectic day.
Oh yeah, I purchased their toffee up at the front counter. $12 for a huge huge square piece of matzo topped with dark chocolate and sprinkled with the finest toffee. Yum! Shared that with Tony and he loved it.
