I will volunteer once a week, its nice to walk in another persons shoes, and the primary grade school teacher was a true dedicated educator.

Today I took Amtrak from Modesto to Jack London Square in Oakland. Once again , I was very satisfied. $19.00 each way and i made the round trip, conducting business in Oakland, I was able to work off my laptop, no driving and even took a nap on the return trip. My next trip will include a weekend and I plan on taking my bike.

Took another trip from Modesto to Martinez. Fresh coffee a morning newspaper, views of the delta and Mt. Diablo, no traffic, no gas, read most of the way. $8:00 each way. It does not get any better than that and the train continued on to Jack London Square in Oakland.

Being a big fan of public transportation, Amtrak was my first choice to travel. A simple drive from Sonora to the newer Amtrak station in Modesto as my destination was Long Beach for a Crawdad festival.
Booking a reservation was simple at http://www.Amtrak..., I applied a 10% AAA discount and made on-line reservations. Under $53.00 each way
Parked my car in the shade and could not believe when the train arrived on schedule and a pleasant 3 hour drive to Bakersfield.
The sites and communities in between, our rich agricultural heritage were on display.
No driving, no gas, no stress. Within minutes at Bakersfield the Amtrak Bus whisked off to each of our final destinations and mine was the Queen Mary in Long Beach.
The return was equal leaving downtown Long Beach at 9:30 am and arriving in Modesto at 5:00pm
The San Joaquin to the South serves Merced, Fresno and Bakersfield and Southern California and to the North Stockton, Sacramento, Oakland & San Francisco.
Going north or South, Amtrak Modesto is the way to go.
