Sashimi: standard fare sushi and sashimi. One thing I have to note is that the sushi is very fresh. I've been to places (even in Japan) where I smell the fish and there's a slight funky smell. I don't get that here. I usually come here with my parents when I visit them in socal, and typical dinner for us is to order sashimi, a roll, hamachi collar, and maybe a hand roll or two. They do not skimp on the size of the sashimi slices either. I really recommend the hamachi belly. They also have lobster sashimi here - very fresh (twitching) lobster tail sashimi served with the twitching front half of the lobster. They'll later on take the remaining part of the lobster (they dont clear out all the meat from the tail) to be made as either soup or congee ( recommend congee even if it's messy.. soup is just miso soup and alot of tofu, jst didnt taste right). I was avoiding the spicy tuna handrolls because I thought it wouldn't be fresh, but I saw the guy preparing it - he basically cut up the tuna sashimi and seasoned it right there to be spicy. At least you know it isn't week-old sashimi with added spices to hide any funkiness. Hamachi kama is typical as any other place - grilled fresh, slightly crispy on the outside, not overly salty. Some people noted that this place is Chinese-owned. Two of the chefs are Chinese, but they've both lived and trained in Japan. They hired a new chef from Japan. Jst wanted to give more info, although I don't really see how you need to be Japanese to be able to properly cut fish.
Service: Could be more attentive, but they are very polite and will quickly get you whatever you need when you ask.
Atmosphere: I agree with the other reviews - not sure why this place is called an Izakaya. They do serve drinks and yakitori, but the setup is far from being a Izakaya. I'd ignore the name. Overall, this is a solid place to come here and get some sashimi and sushi. Don't come here expecting gourmet Japanese fare, great atmosphere, or to have people talking to you in Japanese. I saw a ton of people there for the shabu-shabu as well, so we'll have to try that in the future.

Instead of the tasting menu, we decided to share three starters and have our own entrees. Much better idea! The egg custard was very savory, as was the Staff Noodles (not noodles, it's raw squid with uni on top). The crudo was somewhat lacking though, so def ask what's on there and decide if you think it's worth it. Crudo for the day was hamachi with olive oil and radish. Honestly you can get MUCH better crudo at Bar Crudo, now located in the Marina I believe. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the cod. It was so tender, and perfectly cooked and flavored. BF's spaghetti with lobster was not bad either. Wine here seemed much pricier considering the price of the entrees, but was still good. They offer half bottles and half bottle flights. Would def return here!

We were here Saturday night during happy hour and there was basically one server. We were a big group and had our own little section, and she was awesome in coming back to check on us, and bring us bottles of wine. The happy hour is pretty great, with $4 for rolls, and I think it's $8 for three wagyu beef sliders. Price is great, but they are standard rolls. I do like how they have a scallop roll, and the scallops were fresh. The salmon skin roll is way overcooked and super hard to eat. The group of abt 15 pretty much ordered 4x of everything on the HH menu and we barely managed to eat everything. Most enjoyable items would be the edamame hummus and the sliders. I would def go back for HH with a group for drinks, and to satisfy cravings for sushi ricey things, but I would not go here for a japanese meal.

Go here for the dum sum.. its sooo good. I never really eat buns, but they have this bun called snow mountain bun (translated from my crappy chinese), but I think on the menu it's called low fat bun. The first time I had it, it was bliss. steamed bun with lightly sweetened egg whites, and then buttered and grilled. The second time I had this, it had this weird coating on it (like buo lo mien bao) which I didn't really like.
Other traditional dimsum dishes are great! Love to come here with the fam, where they will always over order, so I have plenty to eat!

This place has amazingly fresh seafood. The first time my boyfriend and I walked by this place at around 3pm, they had been sold out of everything except prawns, and there was STILL a line waiting to get inside. Now I know why!
After waiting in line forever, we decided to get takeout instead. Not that the line was a bad thing or anything - we just couldn't wait after torturing ourselves by taking turns going up to the front and staring at the food in the front and at the people inside enjoying their food. The guy behind the counter was super nice, and very knowledgable about the different types of oysters and how they taste. Never saw a place that served raw clams before, but hey, i guess they can because it IS that fresh! We ordered to go a bowl of clam chowder, half a dozen miyagi oysters (he asked if i wanted briney, sweet, or creamy - asked for a combo), half a cracked crab, crab salad, and a prawn cocktail. Our man remembered our order, packed everything up very nicely with lemon, containers of all types of sauce, and a big piece of sourdough with butter wedged between each half-cut slice. It was the best lunch ever. The clam chowder was kind of water, but good. Oysters tasted super fresh, the prawn cocktail was HUGE, and that crab was oh so sweet. We felt like it may have been a better value to order the crab salad instead half a cracked crab (way more meat, and you don't have to get your own meat out, but the crab was very nicely cracked). After eating everything but the bread, we wanted to go back, but were too embarassed to because our guy said that we most likely would have leftovers. I settled with eating some of the cocktail sauce by itself - it's semi sweet with a tiny bit of horshradish bite in it. My boyfriend said the place was like In-n-out for seafood (only better) - a simple basic menu with some variations, and super fresh. We can't wait to go again next week! Next time I'm going to try the clams and he's going to try the smoked salmon (we kept seeing people coming in to buy the smoked salmon to go). The place is a bit pricey, but totally worth it.

yummy breakfast place with a looonngg ass wait. the sausages are great, the bacon is thick, pancakes are moist and fluffy. I always take some jalepeno cornbread home to eat the next day, but end up eating it an hour later even though i'm still so stuffed because i keep imagining the awesome taste in my mouth.
The times I've been, the line seems to die down about 30 min to an hour before closing time, so that may be a good time to go. It's funny cuz if you look up Dottie's on google streetview, you'll see a long line in the picture too.
Decent-sized dance floors but they really know how to pack in people so it felt really crowded and hot. There's multiple levels, and separate areas for people with tables (basically two booths that go along opposite sides of the rooms, with tables) - those were pretty empty, and actually kind of creepy! People were smoking in some indoor smoking area (and I found a smoking butt behind the subs! ew!) so you could smell it as you were dancing, in addition to random ppl's BO, cologne, and perfume. We spent most of our time in the basement (the other floors two didnt seem to be that fun) that played top40 and other stuff. One weird thing is that they put the dj lighting stuff really close to eye level so that it freakin BLINDS you as youre dancing. Total sensory overload, esp if you're in front of the subs and you feel your bones thumping. I felt like I was at Suite181 again....and I don't believe I ever paid to get into that place. Maybe this is more of college place? Gah I feel old. College wasn't even that long ago! ;p)

Clear Sight Optometry

Dr. Huang helped me choose my glasses and not only did she help select glasses based on my preferences for the style of the glasses, she also explained why some glasses I picked would not work out (ie-the lenses did not line up to my eyes, etc). I've previously gotten glasses at other clinics or at Costco, and nobody had taken the time to actually make sure that the glasses actually fit according to where my eyes were. My previous glasses I would only wear it late at night before going to bed, and they slipped down my face ( I have no nose bridge). Now, they stay on (even though they have no nose pad stuff) and don't make me headachy after long use!
Dr. Huang also took the time to explain my insurance to me, made sure I maximized my insurance benefit before the plan year ended (which was soon), and also helped me out with rebates that were being offered. I also ordered contact lenses through them, and I will say the prices per box (I use Oasys) is comparable to that of Costco or 1800-CONTACTS, before insurance. Also, it helps that this is in network, whereas wholesaler and online retailers aren't). Thanks to Dr. Huang I was able to utilize my insurance and rebate and got a years worth of contacts for $5. OMG! Even if you exclude the benefit of the rebate, I have to say that this place's contacts are sold pretty cheaply. I've been to places where they sold boxes for almost double the price of costco without blinking an eye. This place does everything a regular optometrist's office would - sell glasses, give eye exams, give you free trial contacts, samples, etc - but seriously everything I need to get glasses/contacts now, i'm gonna go down to Socal and do it simply because I know the people here will take care of you and help you deal with & fully utilize your insurance benefits. Thank you Dr. Huang!

My parents work nearby and have been fans of this place for several years now, going to this place often for lunch and they know this is the place to go to get relatively greaseless Chinese food. I especially love the fried salmon triangles, the pork chop with rice, the various grilled fish salads, and the wonton soup (with shrimp and wood ear). My mom's anal about grease and at other chinese takeout places she always has to tell them to put less oil or basically tilt the to-go trays so all the oil goes to one side. We never have to do that with takeout from here. The food isn't the heavy Chinese food stir fry stuff, and it's more suitable for a lunch where you won't fall asleep from food coma and feel gross from ingesting alot of oily sauce.
Always try to come here at least once when I make my monthly socal visits to see family.
