Great Breakfast...  Huge portions of food.  I flew into Phoenix from Seattle and this was the first place my friend took me to eat.  We went for a Thursday morning breakfast!  Get the Huevos Racheros.  My girlfriend got the Eggs Benedict and could only eat one of the eggs and a quarter of the potatoes; there was so much food!!!   Don't miss this quintessential Jewish Deli.

Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub

I grew up with the family who started and owns Kells; the McAlese family.  We used to go and drink at the bar in the early 1980s before we were 21 and before the second bar was built.  Although there are many more Irish pubs and bars in Seattle today, I still think Kells pours the best Guinness pint in the city.  My favorite pint following a Guinness is a Black and Tan; half Harp and Guinness

I have never really eaten anything there other than the Shepherds Pie so I can't rate the food but as for the Irish Ambiance, it is still my favorite.  Conor Byrne in Ballard is another great Irish Pub but for a real Irish experience, Kells is the best in Downtown Seattle.  Be sure to go on a night when they have traditional Irish music.  You might even be able to sing and play the drum on stage...

The name may evoke unsavory images, but that doesn't stop fly-fishing anglers, ranchers, and curious tourists from filling the Road Kill Cafe and Bar. Beer, burgers, and Road Kill T-shirts are big sellers. Weekly movie nights are complete with popcorn.

I stayed at a ranch we rented for a week a while back with those twelve buddies of mine from high school and college and the Road Kill Cafe was just down the road.  We ate there every night.  They have a great bar and a regulation Montana Rules Bank Eight pool table...

The name may stink, but the food is great, where patrons are reminded, "This is not Burger King and you cannot have it your way." Delicious hoagie sandwiches, hot chicken wings, and bear scat (deep-fried cheese balls) top the menu. Rest assured that as you dine, local cowboys and the occasional celebrity--the Boulder Valley is the stomping ground of Tom Brokaw, Michael Keaton (whose padlocked driveway is across the parking lot and road from the bar) and author Tom McGuane;  Harrison Ford and Brooke Shields also have ranches near by and that keeps the adjacent McLeod Bar lively and the jukebox loud.

I ran into Tom Brokaw who has a ranch near by while I was fishing on the Boulder River with Charlie Sullivan, the owner of Skagit Valley Brewery in Mt Vernon Washington, about 8:30pm at night.  I asked him what he was using and he said "Stoneflies."  He was also drinking a Rainier Beer and liked the "ambience" at the Roadkill...  They also have extremely large glasses of beer on tap!!!  Two of them and you will want to spread your sleeping bag out on the porch and take a nap with the dogs...

O S Winery

A quote from Forbes Magazine:

"In 1997 they (Rob Sullivan and Bill Owen) opened the Owen & Sullivan Winery, later shortening its name to OS Winery.  Washington was on the cusp of a winery boom. When he and Owen started out, their peer group numbered perhaps 150.  Now there are 540 wineries in Washington State.  Owen and Sullivan produce 4,000 cases per year, mostly Bordeaux-style blends, although they do have a highly rated Riesling to their credit. Like most Seattle wineries, OS does not grow its own fruit; it buys grapes from vineyards in eastern Washington. Owen is the blend master, while Sullivan handles the business side."

I love their wine.  I love it so much that my neighbor, Andrew Barker, a wine distributor from Napa, and I spent a Saturday bottling 500 cases for free for the two old guys who run the company.  It was an all day affair but you learn a lot about wine working next to them for a day.  Good Fun... and all the free wine and food you can eat and drink.  My favorite is the 1994 Ulysses.  I bought a couple bottles of that and some other years.  The Riesling is very good, one of the best I have ever had.  It is hard to find the wine so you have to go to specialty shops and ask for it.

Sir Scott's Oasis

This nationally known restaurant is the Sir Scott's of the "Real Beef in Manhattan"  Montana commercials, and is locally famous for their outstanding steaks and seafood served up daily.  Its a small town steakhouse, very casual, lots of food and very reasonable prices.

There is no truth to the claim that Jane Fonda and Ted Turner were refused service in this establishment by a Vietnam War Veteran although they used to eat there...

I went there with a bunch of my buddies (twelve of us) from High School and College after spending a week in the wilderness and we ate an ungodly amount of food.  Glad I only pitched in and didn't put it on my card.  It may not be the fanciest place to eat, but wow, do you ever get your monies worth. Plan ahead, there is always a list...  In fact, we called in one month before hand and made reservations just in case!!!

That was 1992, and the food is just as good now as it was then.  I have been there one other time in 1999 while fly fishing out of Missoula.

Based on the Jane Fonda incident ALONE I would, and do, recommend this place! That is if if the claim isn't folklore!!!  Ha!

Il Terrazzo Carmine

This place is a really classy restaurant!  Having tasted all levels of real Italian cuisine (I'm talking Italy! not america) IlTerrazzo does a superb job of recreating a ristorante experience.

We had the dungeness crab bruschetta that was dressed simply with EVO, tomatoes, sea salt, basil and topped with fresh dungeness crab. The fagiole soup and grilled romaine salad were good but the phesant raviolis in demi glace and the roasted duck breast with amarena cherries soaked in grappa were the show stopper.  The service is some of the best I have had in Seattle.  It helps that I grew up with the bartender Chris Blake who has been in the food buisness since he graduated from the University of Washington in 1987.  He knows more about wine than some of the vinters I know.

He sat down at our table after we moved into the bar, table 1, seat 1, and we didn't get out of there until 2:00am.  He ate the Risotto laced with Mushrooms for a late night snack and we ate dessert...  It is a little dressy and the crowd is a little older but it is far and away a classy Italian dining experience.  You can't go wrong with anything on the menu!

This family helped turn the Deschutes River into a "World Class" Oregon fishery.  Mike McLucas and Skip Zapffe were the Deans of the River.  Mike's wife's family has owned the Oasis Resort for three generations.  The restaurant makes the best "milkshakes" and "Sweet Rolls" you will ever eat!  Guaranteed!  Plus you get to catch a lot of fish...  I have been fishing with them since 1983 when I was a junior in high school.

Heard a lot about this place...  It was even quoted as being one of the ten best steak houses in the U.S. by United Airlines Magazine...  Had to try it out after a trip back East for Christmas and a day at Niagara Falls.

The Tenderloin was tasty and we went through three bottles of wine...  You can even order a couple bottles of "Screaming Eagle" vino so I would say the place is pretty "High End."  The staff was excellent.  Its a little dark in the place and we sat on the third floor.  I think its an old theater that was made into a restaurant if I remember correctly...

It is "spendy" to say the least and I can name four steak houses in Seattle that are just as good:  Jaks Grill, The Met, Buenos Aries Grill and Daniel's Broiler.  But for Buffalo, New York, it works!

I am going to have to give this place five stars.  Having gone to college in San Francisco, I know the food scene is "madness" and restaurants last about as long as a cold beer in Seattle.  No better place to live if you like restaurants and good food.

Kristen and I flew down for the weekend from Seattle and wound up running into this place just by chance.  Its out of the city across the "Golden Gate Bridge" in Sausalito.  It has everything you want in a great Italian restaurant...  The Gnocchi was unbelievable!  Got a great Barolo to drink and the staff was excellent; all are about as Italian as one can get...  The Desserts are tasty...

On a good night with not a lot of people and with the staff in a good mood, I would put this little restaurant up against the best...  We hit it on a good night!

Dr. Martens

After getting my first pair of Doc Martins in 1995, I have pretty much worn only them in the past fifteen years...  They are addicting...  The new Seattle store is great and the staff will help you and answer any questions about the "cult" shoes.  I love "boots" and Dr. Martine made the original boot in 1960 and they are still as stylish and sturdy as they were back then.  Money well spent on "boots" and shoes.  The higher end shoes come with a "lifetime guarantee" so wear them, take care of them and after two or three years, send them back to the company and get another pair for free...  That is their policy!  It's the same philosophy that helped "Sage Fly Rods" on Bainbridge Island and "Marmot Mountain Works" of Denver, Colorado become world class and the best in the retail business of their respected industries.
