The Sweet Spot
Category: Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt
We came in recently to see what The Sweet Spot has to offer. It was about 30 minutes until close, so they were pretty much packing up for the night. This shop offers Paninis, Gelato, Fro-Yo, Shaved Ice, & Smoothies-- we tried the yogurt and gelato. The service was friendly and they asked us what we were in the mood for for the evening. They soon bombarded us with gelato samples (not a bad thing, just interesting).. so many that the flavors started to mix and soon we didn't know which flavors were which. The boyfriend proceeded to the back for frozen yogurt, and I opted for some gelato. I thought the yogurt was a bit on the sour side, but this could possibly be because I threw off my taste buds with a ton of sweets right before trying it. My gelato was alright, I believe there would have been more flavors for my selection if I had come in earlier in the day.
The decor was a bit dark with the blues and blacks. I like bright places with a lot of lights, but I can see what kind of mood they're trying to set-- calm and chill. Just a matter of preference.
This shop has been open for about a month now, and I would definitely come back to try it again once they've been open for a while. I definitely will be returning to try the other things they offer here. Hopefully I can come back to Yelp with good news!
I noticed that Hooya's has daily specials for each day of the week, so I might stop in to try that again, otherwise, MEH.

Barnes & Noble
Category: Books, Mags, Music and Video
I love going to Barnes & Noble (or ANY bookstore in general) to browse around, relax, and just read. Every now and then when I'm out of ideas on how to spend an evening (either with my niece&nephew, or boyfriend) I'll come to Barnes & Noble and choose out a few books and magazines to read for the day. I'll find a cozy couch or a seat in the cafe area, and just explore the texts. It's a great way to pass the time, and just have fun.
Typically, though, if I need books and have some time to wait then I'll buy them online. If I absolutely need a book ASAP then I'll purchase them at either Barnes & Noble or Borders Bookstore.. either or.
But yes, Barnes&Noble, great pass time!

Tutti Frutti
Category: Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt
Neighborhood: Alief
So there we were, my friends and I were visiting the HK4 area while we were visiting Houston. It was about an hour before close, and my friend had the urge to get some yogurt. Now, I've already had really bad experiences with the Tutti Fruitti in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, but decided to try this one to see if the yogurt here tasted alright {I had an ounce of hope that the Tutti Fruitti in the DFW just happened to be bad-tasting, and decided not to write off the franchised chain just yet). So I got a few sample cups, tried each flavor, and I was shocked to find that each flavor tasted disgustingly watered down, and I swore that I tasted dishwashing soap in some of them. It just tasted horribly BAD. I walked away but unfortunately my friend already bought her yogurt.
We sat down with the rest of our friends. My friend asked why I didn't get some yogurt, and I simply replied that I wasn't in the mood for Yogurt. She then proceeded to take a few bites of her yogurt, made a displeased face, and commented that the yogurt tasted REALLY bad. I went with her to the cashier to ask for a refund, and the snotty teenage girl working there refused to give us a refund, gave us attitude, and said that the yogurt was fresh and that she had just made it in the morning herself. The girl working there said that the yogurt tasted fine, and that WE, the customers, didn't know what we're talking about.
Seriously???
Tutti Frutti, that's two strikes. I'll give another of your franchised chain a chance.. and if it's bad.. YOU'RE OUT.
Boyfriend and I have been here twice now and have enjoyed it each time. The service is great in refilling drinks and checking up on us to make sure that we have everything we need. We ordered Dolsot Bibimbap (stone rice pot) and Galbi Tang (soup dish). He absolutely LOVED his bibimbap, and I liked my galbi tang just fine. We really liked the banchan (side dishes) also, the servers even came back to ask us if we wanted certain dishes refilled. Can't wait until our next outing at Chosun!
Also, I really appreciate that the restaurant has an online menu that you can check out.

The kids and I came in, each picked a cupcake ($2.75) from our choices of Cinnamon, Chocolate, Vanilla, Red Velvet, or Gluten-Free Chocolate, AND chose our frosting of Buttercream, Chocolate, Cream Cheese, and Strawberry. The kids both got toppings (additional .25 each), and I would have gladly indulged in a topping, except the selection of toppings were so few and plain.
We paid and found seating in the cozy cafe. Our cupcakes tasted just "alright" but would have tasted better if there was less icing. It turns out that you HAVE to tell them to lay off the frosting.. If not, the amount of frosting they put on is just way too sweet and overwhelming (the lady who came in after us ordered a cupcake and asked to have less icing since they always put too much). I went around to look for some forks to enjoy my cupcake with (to possibly spread out the frosting among the cupcake), and there was none to be found. After we ate half of our cupcake, the kids began to become really thirsty, and we noticed that they sold drinks there (ahh, THAT'S how they make more money). Soda 1.75, Bottled water 1.50, Coffee/Tea/Cocoa 1.75.
Overall, I'm not sure if I'd be back because the cupcake, frosting, and toppings all seemed to be regular cupcakes that can be home-baked. If the cupcakes had some type of filling in them, or perhaps if LeSara had some pre-made deliciously decorated cupcakes laying around then I'd be able to enjoy it more.
Also, their odd hours and days of the week might be hindering the business, so I hope they figure something out soon. They're open from 11am-"until sold out", which seems pretty risky since they're assuming that patrons will take the gamble to make the drive. A dessert place like this probably shouldn't be closed on a Sunday for I would imagine that this place would do really well on a Sunday afternoon. The location has a lot of potential since it's located next to a Borders Bookstore, and is also in the same center as an IMAX theatre and many restaurants. Also, the shop that was in LeSara's space before was a Nestle Cafe. They came and went without anyone even missing it.. Le Sara's gotta kick it up a notch if they plan on thriving here.
Update: I originally gave this place a 3-Star rating.. I've decreased it to 1 Star because I HATE fake reviews by owners and affiliates. I may have kept it at a 3-star if I actually liked this place.. but I don't. DONE.

Yogurtland
Category: Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt
I'm glad to see that Yogurtland-Southlake just opened up on Jan. 22, and is already booming in business! This fro-yo craze has been popping up everywhere as of late, but not all shops have the skill to keep yogurt connoisseurs coming back. Yogurtland keeps prices and yogurt quality consistent and delicious. Unlike other frozen yogurt concepts that charge by the cup with toppings, Yogurtland is self-serve and charges $.30/oz for your creations.
The main differences I've noticed between Southlake and Carrollton location is that the Southlake location has a lot more open space, the furniture is a tad bit nicer, the demographic is totally different [which then means that yogurt flavors will vary to fit different palates].
Never been to a self-serve Yogurt shop? Here's my guide to walk you through:
1. Come in. Ask the check-out for some sample cups.
2. Head towards the back, and try all the flavors that you're interested in.
3. Get a cup, mix and match flavors to your liking.
4. Browse & choose fruit/candy/sweet toppings, add syrups if you choose (Don't overdo it on the toppings!)
5. Pay at the counter & receive your awesome biodegradable pastel color spoon (usually pink or green).
6. Find a seat, grab a cup of water if you're thirsty, and ENJOY your masterpiece creation!
This fro-yo shop is located in the Central Market shopping center and is right next to GameStop. Yogurtland is a bit hidden behind some tall trees, though, so keep looking for it!

We ordered the Che Ba Mau (three-color rainbow pudding dessert) and it tasted alright-- not that hard to mess up. We ordered an appetizer of Goi Cuon (spring rolls), and this came out one minute before our meal did. The spring rolls were below average and it seemed like they just slapped everything together to serve to us.
I ordered a small bowl of Bun Rieu (a type of rice vermicelli soup) which was under $6, and it tasted just alright, and had nothing special about it. The dish traditionally comes with a sauce of shrimp paste to mix with the broth, and it's a pet-peeve of mine when I have to ask them for it, especially when it SHOULD come with it.
The boyfriend ordered a bowl of large Pho Dac Biet ("special") which was about $5.50, and this dish also tasted alright and came in a decent size bowl.
Might or might not come back, wouldn't really care either way. This small restaurant was a bit hard to find, and the small sign doesn't help much either. There's another Pho restaurant two doors down, and a Chinese restaurant a few doors down from that. "OK".
