My family and I were on vacation in Arizona and my dad was starving for lunch and wanted food. We searched up some restaurants in the area and found Hiro's and thought we'd give it a chance. We walked in.. and the establishment gave me an uneasy vibe.. like I'm not welcome. Why? The first thing you see when you walk through the front door is a sign that blatantly states "We reserve the right to refuse service".. Okay... We went in anyway, immediately found two more signs that stated the same thing.. yeah.. got it! ... The rest of the restaurant's ambiance was dark, and the awkward server sat us towards the back.
My mom & sister decided they didn't want food and just wanted to sit there and wait for us to eat, while my niece & nephew wanted to share a meal. The rest of us browsed the menu and was about to order.. but then we noticed the part of the menu that had "About Hiro's Ordering Policy".. [I took a picture of this] It had many "rules" on it, and I'm sharing the top three that prompted us to raise our eyebrows:
- "We charge a $2 seating charge for non-ordering patrons"
- "We charge a $2 plate charge for sharing orders"
- "Sharing will constitute full price on the rolls"
.. We chose to ignore the other absurd rules and asked our server if there was any way that we could still eat there without being charged the extra money for "sitting patrons", and that we're from out of town, and would leave if we would be charge for fees. The point is not that we were being charged a few extra dollars, the point is that we wanted to see how the employees would handle our request, and how their customer service is. The server looked at us confusingly, asked the manager, the manager walked back to our table saying that he wouldn't be able to waive the fees.
So we left. There were probably 15 empty tables there, 3 tables of customers, and us. I have no idea why they were extremely strict with their policy, but I will definitely say that I have no desire to return to that establishment again. We walked a few doors down and enjoyed our meal elsewhere!
