Teddy's Tavern

Category: Pubs
Neighborhood: Roosevelt

After having walked past Teddy's countless times without ever really having looked inside, let alone stepped on in, I had started to form an impression of the place by its slightly aging facade and assortment of glowing neon lights alone. Big mistake.

I met up with several friends there to catch some drinks after work and I was delighted with what I found inside. Big ceilings, decent background music but not too loud, plenty of TVs, pool, darts, plenty of beers on tap, friendly service and not super busy.

An ideal spot to hang out, drink a few and catch up.

Seastar Restaurant & Raw Bar

I went to Seastar for lunch with some coworkers a few weeks ago. The place has a well-lit somewhat sophisticated atmosphere comprised mostly of professionals (at least at the time I was there).

I had the seafood jambalaya and it was excellent. The creme brulee was good for a dessert that I really didn't need after a plenty-satisfying entree. Service was fast and attentive for our group of 10. I'd certainly go again.

Great happy hour and really reasonable prices. We got there around 6pm, there was plenty of room and we were seated immediately.

The happy hour specials are good and really cheap. Salad, potato truffles, wrapped dates, mini hamburgers and pizza offered a broad selection of flavors. I wasn't a huge fan of the salami pizza but everything else was great. Cheap drinks too.

We were in and out in 30 minutes and had a good meal for $26. Great for a quick dinner before a show or talk in downtown Seattle.

Pam's Kitchen

We were on the Ave on Friday night around 7:30 and looking for a place to eat. I had seen the good reviews on Yelp and decided to try out Pam's Kitchen.

Walking in you're struck by two things: a fabulous smell and a busy yet relaxed atmosphere. We were seated immediately at the window but others after us did have to wait for a while.

The lamb dahlpuri was a delight. The meat was tender, moist and rich and the curried potatoes were great. Portions are generous and I was glad not to have ordered an app or side.

The service was a little slow but the staff were super friendly and place was packed. We'll definitely go back.

I love this place for weekend breakfast. There's always a wait - usually between 10 to 40 minutes - but every time it's been worth it. Someone on foursquare suggested calling ahead and making a reservation; seems like a good idea but I've never tried it.

The various Benedicts are good (with home-style potatoes) and the self-serve fruit topping bar is a fun complement to the organic buckwheat pancakes. Some of the seasonal menu/specials look really tasty too.

Seems to be a very popular breakfast spot when the Huskies are playing an early-ish game so be warned.

Pies & Pints

Every now and again I find myself longing for a British-style meat pie and Pies and Pints is the closest I've found to delivering on that dream. The place has a relaxed atmosphere and is a great place to eat and talk while it feels like you're sitting in a bar.

You can't go wrong with the pie+side combo and I do enjoy the steak and potato with the great sweet potato fries on the side.

The starters are good too; I like the goat cheese and red pepper hummus. Beer selection is decent also.

I look forward to going back to catch the live music one of these days.

Pied Piper Ale House

The Pied Piper is clean, quiet neighborhood bar. I went after work around 7:30 with  friends and we were the only people in there. There was cagefighting on TV and Elton John playing quietly in the background. I'm not quite sure what mood they're going for, perhaps I'm used to bars being a little more dive-y than this place.

Foodwise I had the BBQ Blues burger which was good. The beer selection on tap wasn't very extensive but had some interesting variety among the selection of 6-8.

The Farm

The Farm was great. We went looking for pumpkins and there was a wide selection of all shapes and sizes. The place seems popular but is well organized (e.g. traffic/parking is directed, food places were well staffed) so the number of families there does not feel overwhelming.

Lunch of polish hot dog, corn, chips and apple cider for $7 seemed like a good deal too.

Good sized drug store above Whole Foods. Pharmacy staff are always friendly and always seem to fill a prescription within a few minutes.

The store also sell Bassett's Licorice All-Sorts -- my favorite candy -- which I've been unable to find elsewhere in Seattle.

Pagliacci Pizza

The pizza is good - thin crust, tasty toppings and not too heavy. I enjoy the pepperoni or meat-laden slices or whole pizzas although the mushroom supreme is pretty good too. The Pagliacci salad is actually really tasty too.

Good fast service.
