I love this bar. Love love love it. Aside from having fantastic/unusual weekday events (old diary readings, knitting, board games, ect.), Whistle Stop houses Transport and other awesome dance nights for those who are more about having fun and less about looking good/spending money. Does have a hipster reputation but the people are not as pretentious as they sometimes look. Generally, lots of friendly faces. The best part about their dance nights is that you can totally look a fool on the floor and no one will think twice about it. And I totally look a fool every time I prance out there and sh-sh-shake it. Fun is pretty much a guarantee at this place.
Drawback: cash only, kids. Make sure to hit up the ATM. Covers on weekends, usually $5, and usually worth it!

I am constantly searching for good, affordable lunch spots near my work in PB and - voila! - Pasta Espresso has been found! It's a funky, hidden dive with a free love hippy feel and no pretense. The menu has no pretense as well, however the rotating sauces can make for an endless combintation with their fresh, homemade pastas. And let's face it, nothing is better than fresh pasta, dried box stuff be damned.
I am a huge huge fan of the wheat fettuccini with alfredo, however the angel hair and pesto is also delish. I was a little disappointed in the italian sausage sauce as I was expecting it to be a bit zestier, if not spicier, however I have been very satisfied with the other combinations I have tried. For about $8 you get your pasta/sauce combination along with garlic bread and a small side salad. The salad isn't all that exciting but it's still worth it.
This place is great for lunch, especially if you skip breakfast and are STARVING for carby goodness. Since I don't live in PB, this place makes a great take-out dinner to bring home with me. All in all, a fine establishment.
