Finally a place that knows how to groom the Maltese breed! They even have a look book so you can choose from a bunch of pictures to help explain what style you are going for. I'm kind of a visual gal so I found this to be quite helpful. There were lots of pictures in the book so I'm sure they have many other breeds of dogs covered in there too.

They do all the fancy schmancy stuff that I like here, like facial scrubs to help with tear staining and nice smelling shampoos and conditioners. They put Blondie's hair in a ponytail like Pebbles and this last time they put a feather in it so she reminds me of a little flapper puppy from the 1920s. They also have a doggy day care but I haven't tried that out yet so I can't comment, but judging from their Facebook profile, it seems like a fun and quaint place to socialize your dog.

I've been coming here since way back when it first opened and I have always managed to get a good rub down. Some places will have a few talented therapists and every once in a while you'll get stuck with one in which you feel like you're paying someone to rub lotion on your back. Telling them to go deeper doesn't make matters any better. You're pretty much screwed for the whole hour and knowing that you just wasted your money doesn't help you to relax much. Please spare me the lotion rubbing stuff as I'm sure I could find a few guys to do that for me for free. Hell... if I was crafty I could probably even wrangle up a few who would pay me to rub lotion on my back. Haha! ;)

Anyway, Burke Williams has great staff and I've thankfully never wound up with the dreaded "lotion rubber type" while booking at this location. My last massage here was with a therapist that I had met back in the day and had somehow lost track of. We figured out that we knew each other after a bit of conversation. The massage she gave me was amazing! Her name is Aviva so make sure you ask for her. I especially loved the lymphatic drainage massages. They really helped me out. If I lived closer, she'd be a little richer and I'd be a little broke-er. I highly recommend you book with Aviva though. She's grrrrrreat!! :)

I remember when I received the 600+ page Restoration Hardware catalog in the mail... I fell in LOVE! I know they got flack from some about that catalog but they got MY attention hook, line, & sinker! I set the gargantuan thing aside and vowed that I was going to buy a bunch of furniture out of that book very soon. Every once in a while I'd pull it out and ooh and ahh over the gorgeous furniture and lighting. Their catalog is like a work of art.

Fast forward to today and I have a brand new house to furnish... Exciting but stressful. Roger and Gabriella at Restoration Hardware made it a relaxing, fun, and stress-free experience. They were both very helpful & patient. They answered all of my questions. They offered bottled water and even treats for my dog while I waited. They took care of me every step of the way. The whole staff was great! I don't understand all of the low reviews of this place. My experience was nothing but 5 stars.

I'm very impressed with the quality of everything that I saw in their showroom. I can't wait to be the proud new owner of my new living and dining room furniture! Woohoo!

Yes, I'm the bitch that picked the most expensive thing off the menu, ordered it and I'm glad I did. Luckily, my date didn't even flinch and picked the same exact thing because "you only live once". Agreed, but for $149 a piece it had better be earth-shattering, right? Well... we were both curious to see if it was going to be as amazing as it was being touted to be and......

Was it good? OH MY GOD! Yessssss!!!!!! *cut to the infamous Meg Ryan scene in "When Harry Met Sally"* I felt like screaming like the announcer in soccer games after I took each bite. Gooooooooooaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllll!!!!! I pondered moving to Australia just to eat more of this yummy meat more often, after all, I've always had a thing for their accents!

So yeah people, if you were wondering, the David Blackmore Ranch Australian Wagyu Filet Mignon is to die for! It melts in your mouth like butter and there's not an ounce of fat or gristle. It is the most flavorful steak I've ever had in my life without a doubt!

Thanks a lot CUT as you have now ruined me for all steakhouses and home cooked steaks to follow. I really loved the mac & cheese and grilled asparagus sides but I wouldn't order the chocolate souffle again. The waitress Juli was great though. I shall return. :)

Update - 11/1/2011 2 Check-ins Here
I have a confession to make in the sushi confessional. I gave this place a bad rap with my first review and I want to take back all the mean and nasty things I said because I've changed my mind.

I think I just prefer ordering delivery as opposed to visiting them at their location near South Street Seaport. Unfortunately, I had a subpar experience both times I dined at Suteishi, hence the bad review, even though I thought the location and ambience had potential. However, after two uninspiring visits, I swore off going here. But then one evening I got lazy and was craving sushi and Suteishi was open while another local place was not. I ordered, a little bit curious to find out if it was going to be a "three strikes and you're out-er" and a strange thing happened. I ended up really liking my food.

I've been a regular ever since. You wouldn't normally expect take out or delivery to be better than dining in, especially with sushi, but in Suteishi's case it is. Weird, but I'm not questioning it and as a result I give them my business often. The people who answer the phone speak English and are pleasant to deal with. Delivery is always quick and painless plus they don't mess up my order. My only complaint is I hate being charged for dinky sides of ponzu sauce. $2 is a bit much. Most places only charge you a dollar. I even think charging an extra buck is a lame policy but I'm finding it to be a common thing in NYC. Reluctantly getting used to the "gotta get those profit margins up somehow" way everyone seems to want to do business around here... Oh and one more thing. Sorry Suteshi but your chopsticks are cheap in comparison to the prices you charge! I'm just being honest. I don't like splinters in my food or fingers.

Anyway thank you Suteishi and I'm sorry for my initial negative review. We just got off on the wrong foot. I hope you forgive me but even if you don't, I can now eat your sushi with a clear conscience. You guys are my first "Meh. I've experienced better." to "Yay! I'm a fan." review here on Yelp. That's an accomplishment in my book. Rock on! :)

Should have known better by now that an average of 3.5 stars for a restaurant in the Financial District equals a 1.5 star place anywhere else in NYC. This restaurant was disappointing and overpriced. I was looking forward to trying this place out and was let down in a big way. I will give credit where credit is due, the atmosphere and location was very nice. Unfortunately, the buck stopped there. The sushi was bland, uninspired, run of the mill, and the fish was of poor quality/freshness. I wish that I had gotten the Groupon like the other people who reviewed this place and then I wouldn't feel like such an idiot for giving this place a shot. Instead I spent twice the price and ended up feeling slighted.

    Here's what we ordered:

Yellowtail & Jalapenos: Seemed as if the small portion of yellowtail they served us was drizzled with generic grocery store salad dressing that wasn't absorbed by the fish. It would have tasted much better if it had been paired with a garlic ponzu sauce. In addition to that, the garnish had an off-putting pungent sickeningly sweet taste that did not compliment the flavor of this dish whatsoever.

We also ordered the Sakura Roll which was a typical roll that you could order at any sushi bar across the country. The ingredients are shrimp tempura, crunch, tobiko, and spicy tuna on top of the roll. There wasn't any kick to the "spicy tuna" and nothing stood out about this choice. I knew we were in trouble when they called this one of the house specialties when there really wasn't anything special about it at all except for it being especially boring and bland!!

The Red Dragon Roll: another "house special" consisted of a spicy tuna roll, spicy mayo, tuna on top. This was also really uninspiring and just as I listed in my review of the roll above, nothing to write home about.

The Filet Mignon with Ginger and Garlic Sauce, which we cooked ourselves on a hot rock, was the highlight of our meal. No real complaints about this dish but it would have been nice if the portion size wasn't so small. For $18, five miniscule slivers of steak to cook on the hot rock seemed almost insulting. The sauce paired very well with the dish but another suggestion would be for them to include multiple dipping sauces and more meat. Cue the chick from the Wendy's commercial now... "Where's the beef?!"

All in all, I've spent less money in places with better atmosphere and food. But then again, what was I expecting in the Financial District anyway? There aren't too many appealing options here so I've learned.

I hate sounding like a sushi snob but coming from California and having traveled the world, I've eaten so much sushi in my lifetime. I felt as if I was eating at a tourist trap wannabe shi shi sushi joint. All glitz (atmosphere and exotic sounding menu)... No glamour. Another one bites the dust.

Look no further. You do not have to! I am the pickiest person in the world as far as spray tanning is concerned and I have finally met my match! I've tried every lame, not up to par, place in this city and I will tell you, they all suck compared to Laura.

I came to NYC as a true Californian that wasn't giving up her long platinum blonde hair and super tanned ways for anyone. Unfortunately, it's been a struggle as my favorite airbrush tan place was light years away and I had to make do. So I readily admit, I've been getting my airbrush on at all sorts of subpar places because I had no choice.

Enter Laura & her airbrush gun. *Cues the harp music you'd assume would be playing in Heaven*

Her spray tan rocks! Nuff said! Go elsewhere and prepare to be disappointed bigtime. They don't care. They won't protect your nail beds with the proper stuff and they will end up looking like crap. I could go on and on about why this woman is way better than anyone else in NYC. Not to mention, it won't stain your sheets. She even uses scents so you can smell beachy afterwards and your tan will actually last unlike other places...

It will be as dark or light as you want it to be. She's a makeup artist so her application blows doors on anyone else. Go to her unless you love Jersey Shore and want to be oompa loompa orange.

If you still haven't gone to Laura after reading this you deserve every orange spray tan coming your way tenfold!

Book your appointment with Laura now and do thank me later. She OWNS NYC airbrush tanning and you can quote me on that because I'm quite the connoisseur!

By the way, I'm going to hijack her dog. I love him!

Big Wangs

I used to live right near Big Wangs and it used to get really loud and crazy when this place closed, every single night. Sure enough, like clockwork, at around 2 am, a bunch of drunken losers would start yelling and screaming their heads off like a pack of dogs in heat. I felt like putting on a bikini, going out onto the balcony, grabbing a megaphone and yelling, "Let me know how all of that catcalling and yelling is working out for you people! No wonder y'all are going home alone!"

So I finally visited to see for myself what all the yelling & screaming was all about. The wings are pretty damn good and the beer is ice cold. It seemed like a bunch of college kids frequent Big Wangs which explains why there was always ruckus at closing time nightly.

I've heard conflicting rumors that Ashton Kutcher does and does not own this place and quite frankly, who cares?! The place is a-ok in my book, aplusk involvement or not. I will say, a couple of youngins that were wayyyyy too young to be asking for my digits were on my shit. So maybe Ashton does have a hand in the place after all. Seems like I should have been the one doing the cougar-ing, not vice versa. Maybe it's just one of "those" places where old chicks come to get hit on by young guys so they can feel better about themselves. Who knows... I missed the memo and I certainly don't read any Cougar Cliff Notes, nor do I need my ego stroked. Don't think I will be back anytime soon but I'm glad I finally got to see what was up.

When all is said and done though, I'm just extremely thankful that I'm not subject to the 1:59er madness anymore!

Elite Event At Albert Hall Tavern With the Murder…

This was my very first Yelp Elite event so I don't have anything to compare it to but I had a blast! Unfortunately, I could not, for the life of me, figure out what was going on with the whole "Murder Mystery" thing. However, I hung out by the bar in the front room for the first part of the evening so that's part of the reason why I didn't have a clue. I got to the back room (where all of the action was going on) pretty late in the game and I think I was past the point of figuring out what had transpired by that point. The MC guy that was screaming on the microphone "like a Baptist minister" did not help matters much either. It might have been where I was standing but the distortion on the speakers caused by all of his yelling made what he was saying completely unintelligible.

I also partially blame my drinking those potent Four Roses Bourbon mint juleps on an empty stomach and the good company that was distracting me from getting the full picture on who killed who, with what, and where.

Shout outs to Vineet S., Erica L., Jane K., some other hilarious chick from Brooklyn that had me laughing my ass off, and all of the others I had the privilege of meeting. Sorry, I'm really bad with names and those cocktails kicked my ass!

Trap door to the alligators for the ahole that said he worked for the theater company and told myself and others that we weren't allowed to talk and should leave while we were in a room full of people that were all talking loudly. If being quiet was one of the rules, they should have set the tone in the very beginning before it got way out of hand with the guy on the mic screaming to talk over the background noise and then the people adjusting their volume levels accordingly, in order to have their conversations heard over the screaming. I don't know who the mystery buzz killer guy was but he was really rude and abrasive. For all I know he could have just been one of the drunk bar patrons trying to start drama. Didn't let him spoil my night though.

Anyway... I can't wait to attend another event now. I'm hooked! What's next on the agenda? Looking forward to finding out...

Blue Ribbon Sushi

Category: Sushi Bars
Neighborhood: South Village

4.0 star rating
9/16/2011 5 Check-ins Here
I frequent Blue Ribbon to satisfy my late night sushi cravings. The sushi is fresh and it is great quality. My only complaint is that the portion sizes are a little small compared to the price you pay. Would it kill them to hook you up with a little more fresh fish action? Well... who knows how much rent they pay in their hipster neighborhood (SoHo)?

Blue Ribbon definitely isn't cheap but at least it's open late unlike the other places in my neighborhood. I swear tumbleweeds roll thru my hood at night! But that's aside from the point here.

A few things to remember...

This isn't really a place to go if you are a fan of inventive rolls. It's pretty traditional here...

And if you prefer the soy paper over the seaweed, you won't like this place because they don't offer that.

Also noteworthy, they use the real wasabi here vs the fake stuff and I kind of like the fake stuff because I find it to have more kick. Not a deal breaker for me though.

Don't come here looking to spice it up with Sriracha either. I love Sriracha but they do their own thing here. They offer a spicy mayo and there's a habanero sauce and while these options are better than nothing, they still don't hold a candle to my all time favorite hot sauce Sriracha.

Other than those few minor things, I'd definitely recommend Blue Ribbon, especially if you want sushi after all the other places have closed.

They always treat me well and it seems like they have started to remember me now since I've become quite the regular. The staff and service has always been awesome. Last time I went, the waiter even remembered the type of sake that I liked. Extra tips and kudos for him. :)

I'm a cashew chicken connoisseur and until someone was kind enough to slip this flyer underneath my door this afternoon, I have been Cashew Chickenless in NYC. I started having flashbacks of that movie Sleepless in Seattle and was about ready to call in on some radio show and profess my love for cashew chicken and talk about how much I missed it just in case some Chinese chef whose specialty just so happened to be cashew chicken was out there listening and fell in love with me because of this and then we could have ran off into the sunset together but alas, I finally found a place that can satisfy my constant cashew chicken craving. The lunch special was a great value. Good portion sizes & quality. Only $8 for your selection of entree + white, brown or fried rice + soda, water, or soup (egg drop, wonton, hot & sour). I went with the hot & sour soup and unfortunately, after trying theirs I'm still Hot & Sour Soupless in NYC but I can live with that. The pickings sure are slim in FiDi. This place is a welcome addition to the neighborhood!
