Kind, caring, friendly staff.  I bit overpriced, but its worth it to weed out the riff-raff!  I like this place because I can board my dog in a run instead of leaving her in a small cage.  Also, the staff knows her well and gives me little reports on her behavior during her stay.  Also, I like that the vet has a selection of pet supplies and goodies to investigate while waiting for the vet or my dog.  It really helps pass the time!  In addition, they have installed a flat screen with short informative programs on petcare which are very interesting.

My only complaint is the location. I wish perkins road was finished already!

Billy Heroman's Flowerland

I love to shop.  I love to buy things that are not functional and serve no really purpose except that they are pretty to look at and give me an appropriate shopping high.  I call it retail therapy.  And Billy Heroman's is a great place for this!

Some of my favorite things to drop money on are seasonal decorations.  I just got my first house and ever since I moved in I have felt an uncontrollable need to decorate for each and every holiday.  So, when I found Billy's, I was thrilled.  I just scooped up several Mardi Gras themed pieces for twenty percent off!  i had been looking all over town for Fat Tuesday decorations, but most were low quality and had a cheap look.  Billy's had higher end products at reasonable prices.  Also, its a great place if you have a lot of time because you are going to want to look at eery little gee-gaw or nick-nack in the store and say "that is sooo cute!"  I will definitely come back for Easter, the 4th, and the start of football season. They also had a section of LSU themed goodies that are not your average find at tiger-based shops.   Its also a great place to find unique gifts that you wont find at the mall.

So in a nutshell: unique and vast selection of seasonal and gift items and a great place to kill time and get your shopping fix!

How can you say anything bad about this place?  There is nothing like pulling up a chair to the cool marble bar ad having fresh oyster shucked right in front of you and handed to you to eat.  The oyster are briney and flavorful.  My on constructive criticism is that the premaid cocktail sauce is not my favorite.  I would prefer if they offered you horshradish and ketchup and let you make your own.  However, after a little tinkering, I got the sauce the way I wanted it.

The Peace Maker is an amazing poboy with fried oysters, fried shrimp, and tobasco flavored mayo and the obligatory pickles on the side.  Match it up with the sweet potato fries and you've got one heck of a meal!

Also, the service at the bar was very friendly.  The waitstaff introduced themselves by name and and asked mine- and remembered my name on a return visit. That's southern hospitality for you.  This is my Sunday pigout favorite.

Popeye's Famous Fried Chicken & Biscuits

LOVE THAT CHICKEN FROM POPEYES!  If I ate popeyes as often as I wanted to, I'd be dead in a month, cause I could eat this deep fried delight for every meal.  The chicken is the best fried chicken I have ever had.  I can't speak for the mild, because I would be disowned from my family if I ever ordered it.  But, the spicey is proof that there is a God.  I live for this stuff, but I only eat ti once a month because, surprise, its not good for you.  The white meat is juicy, not dry.  The skin has a wonderful flavor and picks ups the spices just right so it gives it a kick without burning your tongue.

Now, lets move on to the best thing about popeyes.  No question, its the biscuits.  In Virginia, they have quit making them in the store and resorted to frozen dough.  But in Baton Rouge, its still the real thing, baby.  Buttery,  hot, moist, wonderful.  I LOVE THESE BISCUITS!!!!!  I will never get tired of them.  Thank you, Jesus!  They are a religious experience and I am sure God would agree that he has something to do with how amazing these things are.

Lets not forget the fantastic sides of dirty rice, cajun fries, onion rings (my favorites, nice and flakey and molten hot, just as they should be), corn on the cob, and mash potatoes.  All of these are worthy of my praise.  But, trust me, get the onion rings, they are awesome.

If you have never had popeyes (is that even possible?)  Stop what you are doing right now and go get thee to popeyes.  You wont regret it.

The reason for 3 stars?  NO COKE, ONLY PEPSI!  Yes , I understand thats part of the gimmick from SNL, but really?  No coke?  They pride themselves in fountain drinks and the ability to add cherry, lemon, vanilla, etc flavoring, but who cares if its added to the sugary nightmare known as Pepsi. Yuck, like adding caviar to spam.

Aside from this, I enjoyed the cheeseburgers.  You can choose your cheese here, no limitation to American..  Quality ground beef cooked to order with so many toppings to choose from it takes some thought.  Also, nothing bets a grilled bun. The fries were nice and crispy and fresh.

The atmosphere is an attempt at faux 50's diner.  Its seems a little forced.  And the kitchen generates so much heat that even with the AC cranked up I was still sweating pretty good.  So during the summer, I recc takeout.

Very similar to Georges in atmosphere, but a little bit cleaner - this is a good thing!  Excellent poboys and fries and the beer is nice and cold.  The wait staff does a good job and has a positive attitude - always a plus in my book.   Also, theres always something going on, but I have never had a problem with noise level.  If you want good food and a smile, this place is for you.

My friend calls this Crack Chicken and he is right.  I am addicted.  The chicken is bursting with flavor.  I have never been a fan of white meat because its dry, but no dryness here.  The big steak fries are a perfect match with the pollo.  My favorite thing, though, is the the mayo sauce for dunking of fries and chicken.  Its not just mayo, there is something else to it.  Whatever it is, its delicious.  And wow is this place cheap!  I can eat here for less than I can cook at home.  It doesnt get much better!

I like this place.  Why you ask?  One word -  WINGS!  This place has great wings.  They are cooked just right.  No breading, no baking.  These suckers are deep fried plain and drowned in a spicy buffalo sauce.  The are crispy and juicy and I think the best wings I've ever had.  Also, the house beer is not bad and, even better, its cheap.  U can play pool, chat, play golden tea, people watch or be cougar.  Whatever u want.  I like this place.

Stockade Bed & Breakfast

I once thought there were no nice places to stay in Baton Rouge.  Now, I know I was mistaken.  The Stockade is simply wonderful.  The location is perfect; its on Highland Road near LSU and downtown. Just right for someone visiting a student, doing business down town, or vacationing.

The Stockade's rooms are decorated with fabulous antique furniture.  On the walls are numerous exmples of Louisiana art, which add to the ambiance.  The beds are comfortable and the linens are high quality.  The great room has many places to sit an is great for visiting with friends nd the baby grand piano make impromtu performances very tempting.

However, don't let the old time feel of this place fool you.  TVs are readily available in your room along with wireless internet access, so if you are a business traveler, dont fret.

Breakfast is homestyle eggs and bacon or sausage, omelets, waffles etc..all made to order.  Also, there is  continental breakfast that is available all day.

Between the decor, the food, the location, and the amenities, you cant do any better that the Stockade.

I hate this place.  Ate here once, and the food was cold and greasy.  Well, I thought  I would give it another try.  Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.  The pasta was undercooked and the alfredo sauce tasted like floury paste.  THe lettuce in my salad was brown.  This place is a food atrocity.
