Some of my favorite things to drop money on are seasonal decorations. I just got my first house and ever since I moved in I have felt an uncontrollable need to decorate for each and every holiday. So, when I found Billy's, I was thrilled. I just scooped up several Mardi Gras themed pieces for twenty percent off! i had been looking all over town for Fat Tuesday decorations, but most were low quality and had a cheap look. Billy's had higher end products at reasonable prices. Also, its a great place if you have a lot of time because you are going to want to look at eery little gee-gaw or nick-nack in the store and say "that is sooo cute!" I will definitely come back for Easter, the 4th, and the start of football season. They also had a section of LSU themed goodies that are not your average find at tiger-based shops. Its also a great place to find unique gifts that you wont find at the mall.
So in a nutshell: unique and vast selection of seasonal and gift items and a great place to kill time and get your shopping fix!

Acme Oyster House
Categories: Cajun/Creole, Seafood
The Peace Maker is an amazing poboy with fried oysters, fried shrimp, and tobasco flavored mayo and the obligatory pickles on the side. Match it up with the sweet potato fries and you've got one heck of a meal!
Also, the service at the bar was very friendly. The waitstaff introduced themselves by name and and asked mine- and remembered my name on a return visit. That's southern hospitality for you. This is my Sunday pigout favorite.

Popeye's Famous Fried Chicken & Biscuits
Category: Restaurants
Now, lets move on to the best thing about popeyes. No question, its the biscuits. In Virginia, they have quit making them in the store and resorted to frozen dough. But in Baton Rouge, its still the real thing, baby. Buttery, hot, moist, wonderful. I LOVE THESE BISCUITS!!!!! I will never get tired of them. Thank you, Jesus! They are a religious experience and I am sure God would agree that he has something to do with how amazing these things are.
Lets not forget the fantastic sides of dirty rice, cajun fries, onion rings (my favorites, nice and flakey and molten hot, just as they should be), corn on the cob, and mash potatoes. All of these are worthy of my praise. But, trust me, get the onion rings, they are awesome.
If you have never had popeyes (is that even possible?) Stop what you are doing right now and go get thee to popeyes. You wont regret it.
Aside from this, I enjoyed the cheeseburgers. You can choose your cheese here, no limitation to American.. Quality ground beef cooked to order with so many toppings to choose from it takes some thought. Also, nothing bets a grilled bun. The fries were nice and crispy and fresh.
The atmosphere is an attempt at faux 50's diner. Its seems a little forced. And the kitchen generates so much heat that even with the AC cranked up I was still sweating pretty good. So during the summer, I recc takeout.

Stockade Bed & Breakfast
Category: Bed & Breakfast
The Stockade's rooms are decorated with fabulous antique furniture. On the walls are numerous exmples of Louisiana art, which add to the ambiance. The beds are comfortable and the linens are high quality. The great room has many places to sit an is great for visiting with friends nd the baby grand piano make impromtu performances very tempting.
However, don't let the old time feel of this place fool you. TVs are readily available in your room along with wireless internet access, so if you are a business traveler, dont fret.
Breakfast is homestyle eggs and bacon or sausage, omelets, waffles etc..all made to order. Also, there is continental breakfast that is available all day.
Between the decor, the food, the location, and the amenities, you cant do any better that the Stockade.
