Mex items w/o going to South Sac, ya feel me?

I get huitlacoche jars and epazote here.  Hispanic sections at grocery stores don't have those. Sometimes I'll get their marinated meat and some salsa for a quick dinner.  Maybe someday I'll bring home some goat.

If there was any anxiety for me coming in, the outdoor visible fire roasting chicken pretty much put it to rest.  Meat and fire equals good time.  Never fails.  

Kudos to Yelp and LO for throwing an upscale, yet very comfortable shindig.  The staff was gracious.  The buffet spread of appetizers was of good quality.  I particularly liked the wellingtons.  Not only did they taste wonderful, but they remind me of Hell's Kitchen.  It was cool to hear, the owner, Mark's vision for the place.  Monday night I think it was pulled off.  I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

You lika to try?  You better lika to try.  They hand you 2 or 3 tiny cups whether you nod your head or not.   The owner is a character as described here: http://www.yelp.com/bi...  He reminds me of Maalouf in that way.  

4 stars heavily weighted on the soups.  Fire tomato...chicken veggie...black bean...all thumbs up!  Do it and grab some freshly made cornbread too.

This place is whack.  Straight up whack.  Don't get arrested.   The floors are cold and moist.  Yes, MOIST.  It's disgusting.  How does concrete feel moist?  The smell is of piss, sperm, and vomit all at once.  Hovering is out of the question, you are gonna touch that filth.  The sheriffs treat you like shit, but that's cuz you are just another drunk/burnout/ingrate.  You might meet an NBA player or coach, but other than that f#$!@  this place.

DO loves honey, hates bees.  I love this store too.  Pick a jar and get local honey.  Does it help with allergies?  I dunno, but I'll eat it.  All day.  

One of my favorite snacks is wheat bread, peanut butter, and HONEY.  Lots of HONEY.  

I love cornbread with HONEY.

I've also gotten several stocking stuffer type gifts here.  Granny likes funky, handcrafted type soaps.  They got those.  I've gotten my niece a stuffed animal.  Other stuff.

It's a cool shop. Support it.

When describing Oktoberfest at the Turn Verein I always feel like I'm the other dude describing Burning Man to me.   They are saying a lot of things.  A LOT OF THINGS.  None of them sounds particularly awesome and I end up more and more confused.  

Well, I finally figured out how to describe Oktoberfest at the Turn Verein.  It's just so chill white folks feel as though they can leave cardigans at home and act like minorities.  I mean it's an on the sly grandma giving kids drink away from a Mexican experience.  That's how cool this event is.  There is just something about those brick walls that shield out the bad vibes and hold in a good time.  

Here the whole family gets into the act.  Old German guys are sporting lederhosen, drinking beers, and pretty much showing you how it's done.  Kids are stacking beer cups on tables to the sky while everyone else is cheering them on.  I must eat currywurst, drink Weinhenstephan, and do the chicken dance. Three times.  Yes, it's usually played 3 times.  

Be cool to the old folks.  Don't hog the tables waiting for your friends that are "on their way".  Let the old folks and the families sit, enjoy their meal, and bounce while you drink and dance.   They'll bounce before your crew gets there and you'll be good to go for the rest of the night.  

If you can't have a good time here, there is something wrong with you.  Do it.

I'll be back for BEERS.   Great, evolving selection of beers, from crazy hoppy to lighter and sweeter.  Very knowledgeable bartenders.  Servers?  Not as beer knowledgeable, but nice.  They are down to let you try a sippy sample of a beer, which is great.  

Food is aiiight.  Nothing inspiring, but not bad.

If I have an issue, it's the building.  It has been cold in the winter and hot in the summer.

But uhh...yeah, beers, if you want to try something different come here for BEERS.

PBGS is an exciting  collab between a couple of Sac's better known chef/restaurateurs that I think will turn out to be a nice little Natomas lunch takeout spot.  

Banh mi, fried chicken sandwich, pork belly mac n cheese.....?  Whuuu?? Lots of things are catching my eye here.  I really want to try all of this stuff, just not all at once....pretty heavy stuff.

I ended up grabbing a couple of the Asian street tacos and belly mac n cheese. I thought that's what I got anyway.  Then they gave me tacos and fries.  Hmm, maybe they got it wrong, maybe I was thinking one thing and another came out of my mouth.  Whatevs. I headed out AND DEN....some guy comes running out to catch me in the parking lot.  He says wait a minute because they gave me the wrong thing.  I ended up with an order of both fries and the mac!  Weeee!   They caught their mistake and gave me free stuff.  I say that's good service.  

As Scott F said the tacos are ridonkulous.  Mad flavor. Pork belly with pickled daikon, carrots, some perfectly complimentary sauce, and cliantro!  They are small....kind of like appitizerish, but definitely try one.  

The fries I hated because they were so rich and I couldn't stop eating  them.  The sauce they are drowned in was great.  The blue cheese crumbled on there was perfect.  Did they need to top these with crispy chunks of pork?  Probably not, but I'm glad they did.  I think I need to buy bigger pants.  

Then the mac...?  At first I thought it was just okay, but then I ate it again when the cheese was room temperature.  It got tastier, in my opinion.  I let a couple coworkers try it, then I got more...aaand some more.

I am definitely coming back to try more.  The prices seem fair, quality ingredients are used, and the options are intriguing.  Just maybe not too often though.  This place can get you fat with the quickness.
