Have been searching for a good (men's) haircut in Colfax. Couple of bad experiences then found this place. Beth Miller has been a resident of Colfax for 39 years and has been doing hair for much of that time. She REALLY knows what she's doing. Probably the best haircut I've ever had. Great local gossip, of course.
An extremely cozy, small town treasure.
Locals come here for yummy breakfast and lunch and again, in the evening for live music.
Quickly becoming legendary.

Not much for atmosphere but the food is very good. I have tried about a dozen items on the menu and have never been disappointed.
This is the only restaurant in Colfax serving International cuisine. You could probably do better by visiting China, but for here, it is an admirable effort.

A delightful, owner operated diner in a small town.
By far, the best burgers in town. Jason, the owner is often found at the grill, carefully making sure that everything is the best it can be. His young son took my order over the phone the other day and was AMAZINGLY professional for a youngster.
You want small town caring served up with your burger? This is THE place.

Colfax is a bit libations challenged. Basement Wines seems to be serious about helping rectify that difficulty. Being small, they don't have a huge selection of anything except, maybe wine, but they try.
I'm a beer guy, not a wine guy. Luckily, for me, they have some nice stuff on tap as well as in bottles. Since the owner is good buddy's with the local cidery (Fox Barrel), you can find great local cider on tap!!!
The food is a cut above normal pub-grub and you can enjoy eats and drinks while taking advantage of their free Wi-Fi.
Cozy, local, informal, packed with real people. You can't go wrong.

This is a small, family owned grocery store in a small town.
The selection and quality of everything they sell is just delightful. It's difficult to provide everything for everyone in such a small space, but they do a great job.
On top of it all, they are very generous in providing support for local causes, like the food bank shopping cart that's always by the front door.
This is the kind of great Mom & Pop shop that used to be the mainstay of America, and still is, in Colfax.

I drive 17 miles each way to do grocery shopping every week. Machado's happens to be on the way. I stop here and get everything they have that's on my grocery list. Everything that I get is the best of what I buy every week. I recently picked up 5 gallons of apple juice to make some hard cider. Thirty minutes before I picked it up it was apples. Talk about fresh!!!
The other reviews here fail to mention one of the most wonderful parts of the story, the Machado's. This a real family owned and operated business. Gary Machado is the current family member to run the business and he is extremely serious about providing the best that he can. Gary designed and built the machine that pits the cherries that go into the cherry pies. Shawnee is his better half and helps with all the chores as well as providing tours for local school children. She was recently featured in a newspaper article about local women in business. There are lots of family pictures proudly displayed on the walls.
Among other tree fruits, they grow about 16 varieties of apples. Many of the apple varieties, like Mutsu and Arkansas Black, are rarely seen in supermarkets.
Want the best pies? Ask the ladies in the kitchen what they recommend on any given day. They know what's best and will never hesitate to let you know.
Machado's is a rare and special treasure. Support it and enjoy it.

They have 3 usual offerings; apple, pear, and black currant. Each version is unique and subtle and extremely drinkable. They are in the English style which is slightly on the sweet side.
Made with local, Placer County apples, this cider will appeal to a wide audience, especially those who appreciate a smooth, subtle, low alcohol drink.
Last year they had a mulling cider which really knocked my socks off.
In addition to the cinnamon and cloves, it had an addition of local Colfax grown lavender. Absolutely amazing!!!
