JD Hauling Services

I called a bunch of places to get quotes. JD Services actually answered the phone and were friendly, so that puts them ahead of half their competitors. Their estimate was the lowest by quite a bit, and in the end they charged me exactly what they quoted. They dropped off and picked up on the pre-arranged days.

They lose a star because they didn't tell me what time they were coming to drop it off. They just showed up. Also, they kept sending me emails to e-sign their agreement even after I had signed a physical copy, e-signed a digital copy, and told their website to stop reminding me.

Galan Dental

Dr. Galan is great. I'm a difficult patient, because I have difficulty opening wide for a long time, and I gag easily. But Dr. Galan is patient and careful, and works with me to do a good job fixing my teeth without making me too uncomfortable.

The hygienists aren't bad either, but they aren't the reason I've been going there for 4 years now. :-)

Bogey's Pizza

Second visit. Waited 30 minutes. Then they got the order wrong. Waited 30 more. The Hawaiian Pizza was lame. Will never go back.

My wife and I visited Bogey's for the first time tonight. We both had the "Big Jack's Choice" calzone. It was a mess. Imagine a pizza crust folded over, barely sealed, and filled with lukewarm sliced lunch meat and watery marinara. I put a layer of 2-3 napkins on my plate to soak up the water leaking out of it and it still wasn't enough. The flavor of it wasn't bad, but it tasted more like a muffuletta than a calzone. Frankly, the calzones I make at home are better.

The service was... There was no service. In fact, they actively make it difficult for you. You order at one station, get drinks at a second, pick up your food at a third, and get silverware at a fourth. It's pointless and obnoxious. There's a soda fountain right next to the cashier. Why doesn't she just do it? The people working there aren't particularly friendly. And they charge $0.50 for refills, which is just silly. Who charges for refills in this day and age?

We saw a lot of other people there order the Hawaiian pizza, and it looked good, so we're going to go back sometime and try that. I'll update this review then.

Gobi Mongolian BBQ

I've been here for dinner a few times, and it's usually pretty empty. The Mongolian BBQ itself is great. They have a good selection of meat, veg, and sauce, and everything looks fresh and clean. They have thick noodles, better than the spaghetti at some Mongolian BBQ places. They let you mix the sauce yourself, which is my favorite part. They cook it faster than I thought possible, but it turns out well. The staff is quite friendly. The only downsides are the soup, which is often watery, and the eggrolls which just don't taste very good. Stick to the bbq and the complimentary froyo.

Make sure to order your party from least to most spicy, because the ingredients get mixed up on the grill.

We have gotten take-out from J.J. Magoo's on several occasions, and had the lunch buffet twice. The pizza is good. The crust can be a little on the doughy side, but that's how I like it. The toppings, like the pepperoni, chicken pesto, and hawaiian were all fresh and tasty. The salad bar was also fresh. The service was very friendly and helpful.

The Breakfast Place

The Breakfast Place is perfectly fine. The service was friendly and attentive. Cooking the food took a little longer than I'd expect, but it was perfectly cooked, so I can't hold that against them. The eggs and pecan waffle were very good. The hash browns and biscuit and gravy were okay. The turkey bacon had a great flavor but was totally floppy, and I prefer it crispy. It's nice to have an alternative to Scrambl'z and Stacks without a wait, but the food I've had there so far just isn't very exciting. I'll definitely be going back.

Blue Rock BBQ

Yum. It's all about the pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw. It's spectacular. The baked potatoes are good. The mac & cheese is strange, but still good. The hush puppies are great. The ribs aren't bad, but I've had better. The service is great. The owner is one of the most friendly people I've met.

One note: This ain't Texas BBQ. Don't expect it to be.

This pharmacy is staffed with incompetent people. I got the exact same Rx there every month and they still managedto be out of stock constantly. They are incapableof doing an auto-refill. If they need to call the doctor they wait until the last minute so they can't gethim in time. One time, my wife had an Rx for 90 days of meds and the insurance would only pay for 30 at a time. So they gave us the first 30. When we went in for the next batch, they said they couldn't give us more, because she was down to 60, and the Rx was for 90, and 60 is less than 90. That doesn't even make sense. Another time, the computer said we hadn't paid on our previous pickup (we had), and they were gonna charge us again and we should bring in a receipt later to get refunded. I had to argue until they agreed not to charge for anything other than what I was actually there to pickup!

Advanced Moving Company

Based on several stellar reviews from co-workers, I hired Advanced Moving for a short move from Los Gatos to San Jose. Jim came out and gave an estimate and we scheduled the move for the next week. The guys did a great job. They were all very friendly and eager to please, making sure to put everything just where I wanted it. All of our stuff arrived in the same condition it started. Advanced Moving took a lot of the stress out of our moving experience.

El Burro

I love El Burro, but then I'm a big fan of greasy cheese melted on refried beans. The chips and salsa are good. The chipichanga seems to be their signature dish, and it's really good with any filling. The enchiladas and burritos are great, too. The tostadas don't really work, because they are so loaded with stuff they are hard to eat. Skip the salad. In my estimation, the food is a little more TexMex than CalMex, so that may explain some of the variation in reviews.
