Han Yang Korean Bar-B-Q Restaurant

I ate here for the first time with four of my friends.  It was the first time I ate BBQ on a charcoal grill.  Great food.  Highly recommended.  Prices are reasonable.

The different variety of side orders are the most we ever received in a Korean BBQ.  The side orders keep coming and coming.  Ask the waitress and you receive more side orders.  We had no free space on our table.

You better come hungry because the restaurant serves big portions.  Customers enter the restaurant, line up at the cash register, order and pay your food, and wait in the waiting area.  There are a couple of televisions.  The seating area is cramp.  The tables are sticky because of the menu.  There is a huge selection of fried and BBQ items.

I recommend the fried chicken.  It's one of the best fried chicken.  Forget KFC.  The BBQ chicken is spicy.  Avoid the collar greens.  I'm not a fan of fried corn bread.  The next time I eat here I order the fries.

The prices are expensive; however, you get lots of food.  The value is good.  One order from the platter menu can feed two people.  Fountain drinks are unlimited.  You need to walk back to the cashier for a refill.

Taqueria Los Charros

Taqueria just off Castro St. is a hidden restaurant worth eating.  The food arrives hot.  Customers receive two types of salsa for their complementary chips.  Prices are good.

I ordered the beef fajitas and a regular beef taco and my date ordered a burrito.  The fajitas included a big portion of bell peppers and onions.  Tasty.  I also want to mention the regular beef taco.  The taco is the biggest regular size I ever ate.  They put a big pile of beef.  The burrito was huge.

My negative is the restaurant added cheese on my rice which I didn't like.  I tell the waiter to hold the cheese the next time I eat here.

$5 minimum for credit cards.

Mel's Drive-In

Affordable and good tasting, I highly recommend Mel's Drive In for restaurant food in Downtown San Francisco without paying high prices.  Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  Great place.  I come back again.

My date and I were in San Francisco on New Year's Eve.  The restaurant was busy as expected.  Regardless, our hot food came in a reasonable time.  I ordered the eggs, bacon, potatoes, and sourdough bread breakfast and my date ordered the mushroom burger with sweet potato fries.  The server was friendly despite waiting on all her assigned tables.

Crayons and coloring are available for kids.  Bathrooms are maintained.  It's cramp inside.  That's okay.  Come for the food.  The staff is friendly.  Pay your bill at the cashier.

Dona Maria Mexican Restaurant

My family and I ate ordering platters and burritos.  I ordered the three item combination platter consisting of three regular tacos.

The positive was the prices.  The prices are cheaper than Baja Fresh.  I come back because Dona Maria is cheaper than the chain Mexican restaurants.  Another positive was the complementary salsa and nachos.  The nachos were thick and the salsa was good.

The negative was my taco combination platter.  The beef and chicken tacos were dry.  I added the salsa and my tacos tasted better.  I felt the price, unfortunately, was not worth $12.  I should have avoided the combination platter.

I see many people order take-out.  I want to come back and hopefully give Dona Maria a four star rating.

Spicy Roy's Caribbean Grill

The outdoor grill is behind Jack's Bar.  Enter the bar and walk through the inside to the backyard.  Turn left and you see Spicy Roy's setup including grill, deep fryer, and rice pots.  There are backyard tables.  Order drinks inside the bar.  Spicy Roy serves his Caribbean food only.

The food was delicious and tasty.  I ordered the Jerk Chicken combo.  I substituted the rice and beans with fries.  The fries were different colors and had a different taste.  The cook suggested I use a sauce which I refused.  I should have tried the sauce.

I recommend Spicy Roy's for people who want to try Caribbean food.

Oh My Sushi

The Japanese restaurant is small with a closeness feel.  There is a sushi bar that stretches in length along the middle of the restaurant.

My date and I ordered two bento boxes.  Portions could be a little better.  The prices are reasonable.  Green tea served complementary.  Service was standard.  I come back to try their sushi.

Their lunch specials and al la cart meals on their menu are priced well and taste good.  The portions are plentiful.  Complementary soup served during lunch.

I avoid the lunch specials outside the door.  We tried those lunch specials and it was very salty.

Baked goods are overpriced.  You're better off eating baked goods at a supermarket.  The Panini was okay.  It's okay to eat at Cocola for a snack during shopping.  Eat anywhere else for lunch or dinner afterwards

Sonoma Chicken

Forget McDonalds.  Come to Sonoma and get a real meal.  The prices in their menu are just a few bucks more and you get a healthier and satisfying meal.  First, pick what you want to order from the menus in front of the restaurant.  Second, walk up to the cashier and order.  The cashier gives you a lighted device that tells you to pick up your meal.  Third, find a place to sit and enjoy your meal.  Most of the drinks are unlimited.  Leave the dishes on your table when you're finished.

Six locations in the South Bay including Campbell, Mineta San Jose International Airport, and Downtown San Jose.
