Though the ingredients aren't all locally sourced, the dishes are organic and very fresh. I highly recommend the tasting menu, as you really should experience the full range of flavors this amazing establishment has to offer.

My favorite course was the fricassee with baby arugula in an amniotic reduction. It was a bit on the salty side, but tremendously flavorful with a terrific mouth-feel.

Also, definitely don't leave without trying the dessert. I had the vanilla bean gelato with candied umbilical crisps. It was to die for.

Ruth's Chris Steak House

The SF Ruth's Chris is usually pretty good, though not always. I've ordered the same medium-rare ribeye a million times, and sometimes it's a little too rare, other times it's a little too done. Not a big deal at a place Outback, but Ruth's Chris is certainly not cheap. I'd really like to see a little more consistency in their steaks, being a high-end steakhouse and all.

What IS consistent (or who, rather) is the server in the bar area. Daria is always friendly, helpful, fast and attentive. Whether or not the food is perfect, the service always is.

Beer Revolution sucks because they won't let me live there. I'm willing to pay rent, literally hundreds of dollars every month, yet they won't even let me sleep on the floor.

Screw that place.

The City Beer Store & Tasting Bar

If City Beer Store could just add a little more space, a few more tables, and maybe a few more beers on tap, it would deserve twelve stars. Unfortunately, it's tough to get a place to sit on weekend afternoons, let alone a table.

I only live a couple of blocks away, but I can't tell you how many times I've strolled over, drooling with anticipation, only to turn back home in thirsty frustration when I've found the store packed to the gills with patrons.

I understand how expensive square-footage is in San Francisco, but a boy can dream, can't he?

Viva Pizza Restaurant

I've been a fan of Viva for years, but the last few pizza deliveries have taken at 90+ minutes, punctuated by erroneous information every 15 or so ("he's on his way", "it'll be there in 10 minutes", "the driver just left, he'll be right there".

Apparently it takes 45-60 minutes to drive 1.5 miles.

Viva makes great pizza. By all means, stop in for a bite the next time you're in North Beach, but don't bother calling for delivery--it's just not worth the wait, the hassle, and the load of BS they'll feed you.

The beer selection deserves 5 stars, but the food and service rate about a 2 at best. It's not horrible, but really not great, and not cheap either.

To boot, the crowd is frequently/usually very douchebag-heavy...obnoxious drunk assholes with their sloppy drunk girlfriends in tow. Amateur night, yo.

Again, the beer selection is great, but there are plenty of great beer bars in SF and Oakland. I'll go to Rogue once or twice a year when I have to be in North Beach, but I'd generally rather just take my money to Toronado or Beer Revolution for a much better experience.

The Katana-Ya Ramen is excellent. Spicy, salty, boiling hot, and with the better part of a small farm thrown in for good measure. I'm a fan.

I can't speak for other days and evenings at the Savoy Tivoli, but some tasty cocktails, friendly service and excellent live jazz on a Saturday afternoon really hits the spot.

Consistently tasty pho and fast, friendly service. It may cost a buck or three more than your average hole-in-the-wall pho joint, but it's also a heck of a lot nicer and cleaner inside than a typical dive.

If you live or work in SoMA, then you really should be frequenting Tin.
