Neighborhood: SOMA
i was walking around the mall doing some last minute christmas shopping last week. i was getting really hot because i was running around trying to get everything before it sold out, i decided to get some yogurt to cool myself off.
bad idea. some of the worst yogurt i've had.
their original tasted like bad milk that was frozen, then chopped up. which, i guess in a sense, is what yogurt is.. but you know what i'm getting at.
i tried a couple other flavors, but nothing was good. nothing was even edible. i opted to get nothing and walk around the mall hot and sweaty, rather than forcing myself to eat some nasty yogurt from this place.
why they always came here?
because the pizookie is soooo good.
other than that? i really don't know.
i'll admit, the pizookie is really good. their artichoke dip is pretty awesome too. but the rest of the menu isn't that great. i don't know why everyone gets the pizza, i don't find any of their specialties very special at all (bad joke, i know). and yes, they have a very large selection of beers that are probably very good.. but i don't like beer. they do have one that i really like though, but thats probably because it doesn't taste like beer at all.
with all the chain restaurants around, this place is definitely right up to par with the rest of them. nothing special. semi-decent food for the masses. but i will say, this is a really good place to come and watch the basketball game :]
first off, this place is so small. smallest bar i've ever been too.
second, i didn't see anyone under the age of 35. first thing i said when i walked in here was "there are a bunch of old guys wearing business suits.. we in the right spot?"
i'm not against older people going out and having fun, but i'm not about to go party with them myself. i'm only 23. it would be nice to hang around people my own age.
needless to say, we didn't hang around. didn't order drinks. we barely got past the entryway this place was so crowded.
don't think i'll be coming back for another 10 years.
i ordered a meal here once and was completely unsatisfied. it was some sort of grilled shrimp and rice dish. the shrimp was dry, rubbery, and burnt. the rice was devoid of any flavor. it was gross.
but the dessert crepes are pretty good. i usually only come here for dessert crepes anyways so their regular menu has no effect on me.
now, i always get the nutella and strawberry crepe with a scoop or vanila gelato.
the filling in itself isn't brain surgery. this isn't a hard crepe to make. but they do it semi-well. the crepes themselves could be a little lighter, and the gelato isn't authentic at all. it tastes like regular old ice cream, but hey i'm not going to complain. i like both.
overall? it's decent. prices aren't bad either.
i went here the other day when i was doing a little late holiday shopping.
i heard that a yogurt shop opened up in tanforan, but i wasn't expecting much. boy, was that an understatement.
this place sucks.
they have THE WORST frozen yogurt i've ever had.
i got a bunch of tasting cups before i decided to buy anything. the original taste waaay too tart. the mango was disgusting. the vanilla tasted like it came out of a lotion bottle.
and the texture? i don't think the machines are churning the yogurt fast enough because it was really icey. i felt like i was eating chopped up frozen milk gone bad.
i strongly suggest you go somewhere else to get your yogurt fix.
this place is not worth it.

Azul - CLOSED

i don't even know what to say about azul.
it's small. the drinks are alright. not a lot of people go here. there's a very mixed crowd.. not my kind though. the music kind of sucks.
only good things are that cover is only 5 bucks.. and there doesn't seem to be a dress code.
other than that, this place just isn't for me.
well, i am part of the 1% or californians who had never been before. i'm a deprived child.
yes, i'm 23 years old and i had never been to Disneyland.. until this past weekend.
when you hear its "the happiest place on earth", it really is.
i don't care how old you are, disneyland brings the kid out of everyone.
this place is amazing. i had so much fun here i didn't want to leave.
the rides are so fun. i'm not big on theme parks because i hate roller coasters, but the rides in disney cater to little children so scary they are not. the attractions are amazing as well. if you have a chance, go during christmas season. the christmas parade is really fun. Fantasmic! was really great too. i never thought i would be ok with waiting for a show to 2 hours and feel like it was worth it.
the food was pretty decent too. now, i know theme park food is grossly overpriced. $7 for a turkey leg? but it is so worth it! if you've never had one before, get one next time you go. it's like heaven in your mouth.
all in all, Disneyland was such a great experience. everyone will enjoy it.
if you don't, then there must be something wrong with you.
my bf and i came down for a weekend trip to disneyland (among other things). not only is the hotel minutes from the parks, they have a free shuttle that goes to and from disney every 30 min. you can even buy your tickets at the front desk to avoid the crazy lines at the park.
the rooms are really nice. the king beds are super comfortable. the bathroom is decent and the towels aren't too scratchy. the room's also come with the standards: desk, tv, iron, hair dryer, etc.. the one thing i really enjoyed about my stay though: the room temp. i'm either really cold or way too hot. i can never get the room temp just the way i want it in a hotel room. but this time i didn't have any complaints. everything was just right.

i came all the way from SF just to get some.
ok that's a bit of an exaggeration (i came for disneyland and the jeff soto exhibit in riverside) but this was 3rd on my list.
i don't know what it is, but everything tastes better here.
the yogurt is better.. the mochi is better.. the fruit is better..
the only problem i had was they stopped selling the coffee flavor and replaced it with pomegranate. yeah, the yogurt was still bomb but coffee was my favorite and i was super bummed when i couldn't get any.
hopefully they bring the coffee back so when i come back down to socal, i can be reunited with an old friend.
Date
i give it a 3.5, but there's no half scoring in yelp.
i never get anything but the tart flavors at froyo places, only because i think the other ones taste like regular soft serve ice cream. if that's what i wanted i would have gone to a creamery.
the original tart and the blueberry were very good. smooth and creamy with just the right balance of tart and sweet. the only thing i will say is that it had a bit of a chalky aftertaste to it. but not too much to stop eating. it was very subtle.
the mango and the peach flavors were tasty too, but they were very icy. a lot of places have this problem with the more acidic fruits. i just think they can get a creamy consistency if they tried harder. but that would mean putting more time and money into it, and i doubt they want to because if they did, they would have already.
one very big plus for me was the toppings. i have a big problem when it comes to fruit toppings at these places because they ever seem to chop up the fruit small enough. cutting a strawberry in half is not always bit-sized. but this place managed to cut everything up into tiny little cubes. i really appreciated that.
overall, i would come back. the self-service makes it a lot easier for me to gage how much i can actually eat :]
