Kia Marin

Category: Car Dealers

5.0 star rating
2/27/2012
This was the last dealership of the day in late December when I was looking for a car. I had been really disappointed in the 3 dealerships I had previously been to. I was shocked at the lack of knowledge, professionalism and resources. I was relieved to arrive at Kia of Marin and be greeted by a true professional who actually knew about the car I was interested in. I was able to test drive several models and at one point, he allowed me to take my family with me, leaving him at the dealership.

When I went in the next day to make the deal, they were courteous and genuine. I've since gone back to have a few things checked out (ended up being nothing wrong) and they were great. I believe they're the only Kia dealership in the bay area that has loaner cars for when you are getting service.

Even though I live in San Francisco, I'm going to do my best to always go back to the dealership when I need anything taken care of, they were that wonderful!

Zushi Puzzle

For as long as I've lived in San Francisco, I have heard about Zushi Puzzle. And it's taken me upteen years to finally get there...and I can't believe I waited this long!

The biggest reasons to avoid were to do with the location (on Lombard near Marina...busy, touristy, douch-y). But I had a spontaneous evening with a friend of mine where we were able to get a last minute reservation (definitely don't show up as the place is small and you don't want to be disappointed).

The selection of fish is outstanding. Stuff is flown in daily and these guys have been around so long, they get the best selection.

If you get a chance to sit at the bar in the back (and price is not an issue), do that as I've heard the chef's selection is amazing.

Really looking forward to going back there. I've recommended this place to all of my friends from out of town who are looking for an authentic sushi restaurant.

Living Greens

I reached out to Living Greens to find out information on their cleanses as I was interested in doing a 3-5 day cleanse.

This happened to be a Saturday morning around 7 am and so I figured I'd get a response on Monday. Boy was I pleasantly surprised when Michelle reached out a short while later to provide me all the information I requested.

Michelle was super responsive throughout the weekend and into the week while I figured out when I'd want to start the cleanse.

Once I started I was really impressed by how delicious the juices were! And also how much you're drinking. I think a lot of people assume they will starve on a cleanse but you're constantly drinking liquid, so you don't ever really go hungry. I especially enjoyed the broth that you could heat up in the evenings as a savory treat after a long day of juice and tea.

After the first day of my detox I was surprised how quickly I felt the effects. I slept better than I had slept in ages, I woke up with a lot of energy and that continued throughout the day! I was even surprised that I was able to do my normal 1 hour total body work out on less calories, but with twice as much energy.

Juicing DOES work, people and a cleanse is the perfect way to start yourself off on a healthier you. Living Greens has an amazing selection of juices and they deliver! I even had them deliver the following week while I was at a work conference downtown. Substituting a juice for a meal really helped me during a stressful week in which I'd normally feel bloated from all the meeting food.

Looking forward to doing my next juice cleanse with Living Greens.

Cobb's Comedy Club

Having been to Cobb's twice now, I will say that they do bring in excellent comedians. So if that's all that matters to you, 5 stars it is!

However, I am disappointed in how they manage they house. The first show I went to we were sat at tables with a two drink minimum. Fair enough, that was fine although the service was VERY slow.

Fast forward at year and I'm there to see Stephen Merchant. Expecting it to be like the last show, I was surprised to see now tables and instead, seats crammed together in lines. I guess they thought because he was a big draw, they'd rather sell more tickets than give people a good experience. We were sat next to two rather large people who because of the chairs touching, were in our personal space. I felt bad for them as I'm sure the were quite uncomfortable.

Figured there was no 2 drink minimum this time but we waited 40 minutes before a server approached us to order. We were really hungry and wanted food as well but there were so few servers, they couldn't keep up with the demand. By the time the server DID approach us, we quickly put in an order for 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks. She comes back about 15 minutes later to hand our drinks and to say, unfortunately when I went to put in your food order they told me that the kitchen is closed because they don't want people serving during the show.....what, I'm sorry?! She halfheartedly said sorry as she turned to provide drinks to the other folks around us who had also been waiting an eternity.

I'm sorry Cobbs, when you choose to cram people in for a show it stands to reason that you need to up the number of people you have serving to accommodate the number of guests. Perhaps you feel because you're the biggest comedy club (and perhaps the only one of significance?) in SF that you don't really need to try and please your customers. But I can tell you I won't be recommending your venue to anyone I know. Better to go up to Marin or down to San Jose.

Hoping someone at the club reads these reviews and takes note. There were quite a few angry guests last night...

A not so hidden spot in the Mission, but still worthy of the wait!

Boogaloos has become one of my go to spots for brunch for the following reasons:

1) Selection. They have an amazing selection of sweet and savory goodies. Highlights for me are the breakfast burrito and the temple o' spuds!

2) Even when there's a wait, it's rarely long. Plus you can walk down to Ritual to grab a quick cup o' joe while you wait.

3)There's usually some interesting pieces of art on the wall. And enough good people watching to keep the conversation going.

If you're looking for decent Mexican food in Cupertino and don't have time to find a nice, sit down restaurant and/or don't feel like faux Mexican at Aqui across the street, come to Rio Adobe.

The food is delicious, home made and the staff is friendly. The prices are reasonable and they have an amazing salsa bar.

Rosamunde Sausage Grill

Top 3 Reasons for loving Rosamunde in the Mission:

1)Amazing sausage selection as well as other food items! (Unlike the Haight location)
2)The beer selection is OFF THE HOOK! I mean, really. This place could be considered a beer bar on its own with the tap and bottle choices!
3)Lots of seating (as compared to Haight location), especially enjoy the long tables that allow you to get to know your neighbors.
4)Did I mention the beer?!

Oh right, I said top 3...but seriously, as a been connoisseur I am highly impressed and grateful for the choices of beer they have. Last night was only my second time there and I was a bit worried considering there was a Scout Mob deal going on where they were giving away free sausage (no euphemism there!) But they were quick to complete orders and not surly at all!

My favorite sausage is the beer sausage: smoked spicy pork and beef. Has a bit of a kick, but oh so good.

Beer - There are too many to list and they're changing their taps but you pretty much can't go wrong with Racer 5, anything Green Flash or Ninkasi.

After last night I've pretty much decided I want to start hanging out here more...but don't copy-cat me...I want to keep this place quiet. LoL.

Pizzeria Picco

We continued our Tour de Pizza ALL THE WAY up in Larkspur! :-P The little community is just 15 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge and it's really quaint and beautiful. Pizzeria Picco is located on the "main drag" in Larkspur amidst old buildings and tall redwood trees.

We arrived early as we knew you couldn't get reservations and this was good thing. The space is small and on a Saturday evening, it's a happening joint. Most of the seating is outside which ended up being perfect on a warm summer day.

We ordered the Margherita Pizza (always our baseline for every pizza place we go to) which was really good here. The tomatoes had a lovely taste! I always want more basil but I know it's typically sparse on a margherita. The crust was a bit thinner than I'm used to seeing, even for Neopolitan style pizza. It was easier to eat folded than as a slice because it was too thin to hold the toppings. It was also burnt a bit more than normal, which didn't ruin it for me, but you can bet at A16 they're not doing that.

Our second pizza was their Cannondale which was made with their house made sausage, roasted peppers, roasted onion, mozzarella and basil. Again, the same issues with the crust and I wanted a bit more roasted pepper and onion, although there was plenty of sausage. It was a good flavor and I enjoyed it.

The service was alright. Our waitress had a bit of an annoying voice (think valley girl) and when she said she'd be right back with our change, it was 10 minutes later. The associate who brought the pizza also cut it and he was perhaps the worst pizza cutter I've ever seen. Honestly, I'm not perfect but I am better than he was - and he works at a pizza joint! Probably would've been better to just bring a whole pie and let us cut it ourselves. Or have someone back in the kitchen cut it.

A bit more about Larkspur; this is an upper class, very white town. I think we saw 2 Asian people and they were together (although to be fair, I believe their mayor is Asian) and no other ethnicities. Mostly families so there is a high percentage of parents with children coming here. I only say that to my fellow San Franciscans as we rarely have to worry about that in SF as most families tend to eat at chain restaurants.

Overall, I think this place is a decent pizza place for the location. But I won't be going out of my way to come here again.

Chez Papa Bistrot

Category: French
Neighborhood: Potrero Hill

Although I've passed this place several times (and been to it's sister restaurant Chez Maman just down the street), I've never stopped to check out Chez Papa. Well as luck would have it, I had an inkling for French food last night and since Chez Maman was packed, decided to try my luck here.

This is obviously much more formal than Chez Maman with proper seating (as opposed to counter space and two tiny tables) and even a prix-fixe menu. There are several other items on the menu, including several starters and small plates as well as main courses and sides.

My friend and I opted to share the butter lettuce salad with goat cheese and both ordered moules et frites....mussels and fries. First they brought out bread which I usually try to avoid (albeit mostly unsuccessfully) but since it came with an olive tapenade, I couldn't resist. The salad came out and the goat cheese was served as a fried ball of goat cheese. So delicious!

When the mussels came out I had wondered why they had given us each two bowls since the mussels come served in a kettle. Then I realized it's for the sheer amount of mussels! So many. Of course they only have a little meat inside so I see why they have to serve such a large portion. I ordered the Moules Provencale and it was delicious. The fries were also great, crispy and with great flavor. They brought over extra bread and it was perfect for dipping into the provencale broth that was with the mussels.

This place gets a strong 5 stars. The food was excellent, the service was outstanding and the timing of everything was perfect. Not too fast, not too slow. One word of caution: it was quite a bit loud in here. Not that I was too bothered by it, but if there are a lot of people inside, don't expect for it to be quiet.

The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen

After having wanting to check this place out since it opened, at long last after 14 months I was able to visit!

To say I'm a fan of cheese is an understatement. I LOVE LOVE LOVE cheese. I actually have nightmares about becoming lactose intolerant, that's how much I love cheese. So needless to say, a visit to this place was long overdue.

I had a chance to come here for lunch which seems to be the busiest time. Sing they don't have a huge indoor/outdoor seating area, I suggest you try to arrive before 11:45. Worst case scenario tho, South Park is just around the corner and you can always eat there.

Now to the food!

Their menu consists of various types of grilled cheese sandwiches. Different toppings and cheese on each one. They've got the obligatory tomato soup to go with the grilled cheese (because that is CLASSIC!) but also things like the Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese which has bacon and a jalapeno relish on it. I went with this one and was encouraged to try their pickles. I also got a side salad.

Their sandwiches are pretty big. I went rather hungry and after eating half (and some of my pickles) I was getting full. The sandwich was very good with a nice sweet hotness that you expect with jalapenos. My only complaint was that not all the cheese was melted. Granted, it was their busiest time (lunch) and there were a lot of people there. But I was slightly disappointed only because this was a grilled cheese kitchen after all, was it not?! They should have this down to a science.

So overall I'd give it 3.5 stars. I'm definitely interested in going back and trying their other choices. And will be hopeful that the cheese is the melt-y goodness I expect with a grilled cheese sandwich!
