The Ravenous Cafe and Lounge

3.5 stars really.  Brunch was SUPER crowded this morning but that's expected for a joint that only sits 20 at full capacity.  Smoked salmon omelet with hollandaise sauce was excelled.  The cornmeal pancakes looked great from across the table.  French pressed coffee was strong and very smooth; not bitter at all!  Having the waitress look us in the eye once in awhile would have given them a 4th star.

Best falafel in San Francisco.  Yes, better than Cafe 36 (which has pretty damn good falafel if I do say so myself).  Also picked up 4 oz of caraway seeds for 2 bucks and a box of PG Tips for 7 bucks (same price as Cost Plus).  It's a pain in the ass to get to the Inner Richmond, but I will ALWAYS stop in this shop when I do get out there.  SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS!

"Dr. Yau is on vacation.  Do not leave a voice mail.  Dr. Yau is on V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N.  She will be back in the office on..."

This is not what you want to be greeted with when you're calling for an appointment after a night of coughing and zero sleep.  Why were Dr. Yau's patients not being directed to another doctor in the practice?  Good question.

I have serious issues with the way this practice is run (patient care via voice mail?  I think not) but Dr. Yau was the only doctor I called in December willing to take new patients.  I will NOT be returning to Dr. Yau and I hope she reads the reviews left by very dissatisfied former patients.

Dr. Bert was great!  I thought my blurry vision was due to an old prescription but in some magical twist of fate, my eyes got better and I no longer need glasses!  "You see best through window glass, so go home and throw your glasses away."

The building he's in is super cool too.  16 floors up and the windows still open.  Awesome!

I loved this place!  Cute fabric shop with tons of current patterns.  Most of the back room is sale fabric.  They even have man-chairs for when you bring along a boyfriend/non-quilter.  I picked up most of the fabric for my mother's quilt here in December and it wasn't nearly as expensive as I estimated it to be.  Beware of Petaluma-ites that bring in their rat dogs and bogart the cutting table.

Popular with dock workers and families, Babe's is the type of restaurant you feel good in, regardless of the bad food you're putting into your body.  Everything is fresh and homemade, from the pies, jams and homestyle bread.  Don't bother waiting for your cup of coffee; get up and pour yourself a cup from behind the counter.  The TV is usually set to Headline News.  Don't argue with George or any of the waitresses or you're asking for a slap to the back of the head!

If there was only one reason I was happy moving offices BACK to Mar Vista, it was Tacomiendo.  Seriously, Mar Vista blows.  Tacomiendo rules.  All the Sony people have invaded my secret hole in the wall.  The only time you can get an open table is 11:50 am or after 2 pm.

Mexican food in SF blows compared to Tacomiendo.  How I miss thee...

I can't believe I am reviewing my own high school.  In the late 90's the classes sucked with the exception of a few good teachers here and there.  I heard all the classes at every high school in the district are migrating into "programs."  Completely lame.  Some kid set the bleachers on fire one year; that was about the extent of anything remotely fun at the school.

The independent manicurist here is the best--Angela Tsigonoff.  Her manicures are the best I've ever had.  She takes a genuine interest in you and develops relationships with all of her clients.

If you're good, she'll tell you about Tom Cruise and his party boats.

I am so bummed this place is closed.  I had been eating here since I was a little kid.  Birthdays, my graduation dinner, boyfriend's graduation dinner...and now it's this crap faux take-out place.  The other location in Los Alamitos isn't nearly as good.  Goddamn their apple fritters were good.
