5 stars for hosting Megan Jean and the KFB.
5 stars for the people watching.

1 star for the cigarettes, the dick bartender, the early closing kitchen, and the seedy atmosphere.

I hit this Target solely out of convenience. And my shopaholic nature.

It does the job: I can get shampoo, a birthday card, a new pair of shoes, and laundry detergent in one fell swoop. But this is not the best of the Targets by any means. It's smaller, they don't usually get the fun designer lines, and service is only helpful when they want to get in your pants (seriously, the only time I've been asked if I needed help has been simultaneous with serious leering). The pharmacy takes forever and a day to fill prescriptions and Saturday afternoons are BANANAS and should be avoided at all costs.

Yet I still manage to spend more money here than anywhere else in Atlanta. How do they do that?!

Edgewood Corner Tavern

I live within walking distance of the Little Five Corner Tavern, and yet I still find myself coming here. I love them both immensely.

It's bar food, but you can still be healthy. And it's delicious. I love their bevy of non-fried sides like almond green beans, spinach with feta, and grilled asparagus. I love that I can get a grilled chicken sandwich just the way I like it. And I love that they've got an impressive beer list that reminds me that, yes, I'm in a bar (the smoke won't really let you forget it, though).

What bumped this up to a 5 was my experience tonight. I ordered my go-to grilled chicken sandwich with avocado, and was brought a grilled cheese. No big deal, mistakes happen, they kind of sound the same. I have to say, I was amazed by their reaction. Most spots would apologize once and make me my sandwich real quick, but not here. The food runner apologized. The manager apologized. The server apologized (her name was Naomi and she was precious). They gave me 25% off. The manager apologized again. It was really pretty amazing-- I wouldn't expect this level of customer service at a bar. But they've got it here. And they all said goodbye on the way out.

They need to update their beer menus more regularly as they were out of my beau's first two choices and they *really* need to work on resurfacing their parking lot (or at least fill in the craters that would swallow a Fiat whole), but they still get 5 stars from me. The perfect neighborhood spot.

And yes, the staff is still easy on the eyes, thank goodness.

    Oh, hai.

I really don't give a rat's ass what the food tastes like (it's solid) or how extensive the beer list is (it's impressive) when the waitstaff is as smokin' hot as they are here. And in a non-obvious way.... the way I like.

My drool puddle may be the only one on the table, but I'm cool with that. More eye candy for me.

I can't believe I had never been here. I'll admit, I thought it was going to be cheesy. But it wasn't: it was fun. And the food was really great, as was the service. Just a note: when you think you're at the end of Miami Circle... keep going. You'll see it.

We had a big party and they were totally great about setting up our large reservation. This is the perfect place for a large crowd: most everything is easily shareable, they've got plenty of space, and it's a fun atmosphere. It's pretty loud so I wouldn't recommend it for an intimate date or sometime you're looking to have serious conversation.

I was really nervous as I'm on the wagon and on a pretty strict diet, but luckily I was able to stay on plan *and* enjoy myself. Yay! Unfortunately they don't do refills on Diet Coke as they use bottles over fountain, but that was really the only downside. Of what I sampled, everything was tasty and fresh. The asparagus was delicious and the ceviche was flavorful. I loooved the arugula salad and would totally come in just to order that again. I wasn't such a fan of the hummus, but it certainly wasn't bad.

All in all, I'm so glad I finally came. I'll be back.

The space is lovely, the people are friendly, the location is convenient.

That's where the good ends.

While I was waiting for my beau to get his 'do did, I figured I'd splurge on the ultimate beauty frivolity: a blowout. No cut, no color, just having someone wash and dry my hair because I'm too lazy to do it. This is one of my most favorite treats I can give myself.

It wasn't a treat. I could have done it better. In fact, I nearly *did* do it better.

My stylist, while lovely, appeared to have no idea what she was doing with my rather basic hair. My hair is long, has long layers, and has a light curl that's easily blown out. It holds curl like a dream when you use a round brush and my bangs lie perfectly when you simply run your fingers through them and point the blowdryer down, because I have a perfect regular hairstylist who knows how to cut them... perfectly. It's really not hard.

Homegirl got the brush stuck in my hair countless times and then got flustered when she got to my bangs (which, by the way, should always be done first because they dry more quickly). So flustered, she handed me the brush and said "style them how you like." Um, isn't that what I'm paying you for?! I brushed it off and just said "oh, I'm sure they'll be fine however you do it," and they were. Just fine. Okay. No better than I can do at home.

I was thankful there was a Yelp deal.

Oh, Sole. You just had to go and open another location, didn't you? That way, when my nearby Edgewood store is out of stock in my size, you've likely got it. Now I have no excuse not to get the shoes of my dreams.

Just like the Edgewood location, Sole is chock full of great designs, friendly staff, and now, all of my money. I've noticed them carrying more and more Jeffrey Campbell, which makes my heart sing and my wallet shrink. BUT, they have incredible sales which make it all worth it. Be sure to follow them on facebook to see when they get new shipments in and what they've got markdowns on.

Oh, and if shoes aren't your thing, I'm more than a little obsessed with one of their jewelry lines, BouCou, a local Atlanta designer. Shop local, y'all!

My first visit to Deckard's was a 2 star experience. Service was fine, but my sandwich was painfully dry and tasteless. I decided to come back for lunch recently and things were much better this time around.

I'm on the wagon so unfortunately couldn't partake in their impressive beer selection, but I have to say, the Diet Coke was delicious. They've got their fountain on point. And yes, I can tell the difference. The tomato soup was pretty solid and a good portion for the price, and the turkey panini was also nice, although a little spicier than I had expected. Given the bland and dry sandwich I had on my first visit, I was impressed that they had kicked it up such a large notch.

When I get off the wagon, you better believe I'll be back here.

Chuy's

Whoa, Chuy's. This place is a trip. The decor is loud, and the kids that had taken over the joint on a Sunday afternoon were even louder. My ears.

The thing is, the food doesn't match the over the top chain-feeling decor. You see, it's good. Really good. The ambiance feels a little Chili's but the food is straight up quality Tex Mex. My tortilla soup was delicious and my fajitas were HUGE and quite tasty. I loved that they gave you tons of grilled veggies (my favorite part) and all sorts of toppings from pico to guac to fresh lettuce. Also, be sure to nosh on the jalapeno cream sauce: it is seriously divine. The chips were thin and the salsa was fresh and I, as usual, could (and should) have made a meal just off of that. Instead I left overfull with a huge to-go container. Worse things have happened.

It seems like this place is constantly packed to the gills, so be prepared for kind of a crazy atmosphere. Our server was super friendly and on the ball and we had a manager check in on us, so it seems like they're on top of it: just don't expect an intimate dining experience.

Little 5 Points Pharmacy

Trying to support the little guy, I came in to fill a prescription and move it over from the CVS behemoth that I despise so much. So I'm greeted by a friendly cashier, make my way to the back, and am greeted once again. I place my prescription down on the counter and start shuffling through my wallet to get my insurance card. The pharmacist interrupts my search to inform me that they can't fill my prescription. They apparently "are having some issues with contracts" and I "should try back next month." What the whaaaat?! You're a pharmacy that can't fill prescriptions? I'm confused.

So I walked out, frustrated and without meds, and made my way to Target where I waited nearly an hour and didn't support the local economy. Not awesome.

Little 5 Points Pharmacy gets 3 stars for existing, but I just can't give it any higher when they can't fulfill the basic requirement of a pharmacy. Maybe I'll try them again in a couple of months.

Dave & Buster's

Update - 1/18/2012 2 Check-ins Here
While Dave & Busters still leads to a fun night out, there's definitely room for improvement. Tonight's visit resulted in some frustration due to one too many broken games. A few were downright out of order, others just stole your money, and others still broke mid-play. They've got little switches to call an attendant but I'm absolutely positive they don't work. And the one attendant who's on the floor to fix the games is almost always MIA.

Still, if you're okay with parting with a chunk of change all in the hopes of drowning in worthless paper tickets, you're in luck.

There's a reason I've never been to Vegas. I could have easily blown hundreds of dollars amongst the arcade at the lowly Dave and Busters: imagine what would happen with the glitz and glamor of the Vegas! It'd be a mess, that's for sure.

Luckily, my beau is a patient (and smart) man and knew that D&B would be right up my alley. Yes, it's kind of cheesy and totally evil corporate chain feeling, but if you like arcades or video games, it's a hell of a good time. They're open till midnight during the week which is nice: when you're on a mission for tickets you don't want to have to keep your eye on the clock. The crowd, at least on a weeknight, is certainly an interesting mix: a surprising number of corporate folk who seemed not interested in the games, so be aware it apparently serves as a pretty decent sports bar as well.

The food is mediocre and overpriced. The service is not the best. But they have skeeball, old school vintage car racing games, and Domo in the prize room: that's all I need for good times.
