The  pros: they serve pretty good dogs and have a nice variety.

They are really friendly and kid friendly.

They've been on food network. Wow!

The cons: You have to pay $10 to park in their parking lot. Ridiculous! You have to pay to go eat? Gimme a break.

Their restrooms do not have a child changing table. Minus a star.
Plus, the women restroom is in the very, very back. Almost secluded.

It is very loud inside. I could barely hear my friends who were sitting with me. I hate yelling over dinner.

Their waiters do not give separate checks. We had to do the math for our waiter because he would not accept our payments unless WE told him how much to charge each person. Learn how to do your job!

Summary: The dogs are fat and juicy. The chili is a little spicy.  The cokes are cold and fizzy.  We had a plain dog, a dog with chili and cheese, a pasta salad, 2 cokes, a large order of fries, a portobello (spelling?) cheesesteak, and one vodka tonic =$45.  When you factor in parking...that's a bit much for a hot dog. I most likely will not be back.

James Juneau an auto mechanic that works out of his home.  He is honest, dependable, and fast! What I really like about James is that he makes house calls. Yep, you read correctly, he comes to you if you are unable to drive your car.  He has always done his best to set up a reasonable time to come visit and work on my cars.  In addition, he is really ethical about pricing. I'd recommend him to anyone and everyone.  So, if you are having car troubles, give this guy a call. Don't be fooled by the tats and dreds, he is very professional!

I'd give him six stars if I could.

Los Portales Mexican Restaurant

We live close to this place and never saw it until this weekend.  Well, I was craving tacos and my husband decided to treat me.  "Where to?" He asked and I said, "Let's try that new place we saw."  So, off we went to Los Portales. It was a Wednesday night at around 7PM. There was only one couple in the restaurant. That can either be a good thing or a bad thing.  The decorations are sparse. We walked in and were seated. The owner came out and handed us two menus.  His son came and took our order. The food came out one plate at a time. However, it sure was tasty! The tortillas were hot-just the way I like them.  The food was really well priced and I loved the homey feel of the place. I like that the place is run by a father and son combo. Any man that can cook and run a business gets five stars in my book any day.

You bet I'll be back to try other things off the menu.

I noticed that my inspection sticker was past due by two months. Holy Cow!! Thus, I whipped into sticker stop an early Saturday morning and was out within twenty minutes. The staff is friendly and they work fast.  I'll definitely come back and I recommend others visit.  They have a no nonsense work ethic and they do not try to upsale you.

I like the idea of eating a meal in the movie theatre.  Not only do they gouge you when you buy a ticket, they also charge a high fee for their food.

Other than that, I like the experience. I'm not a drinker, so that part of it does nothing for me.  However, I wouldn't be opposed to returning here.

Large selection.  Good wait staff. Prices are not that bad. I wouldn't have a problem eating here again.  However, it will never be my first choice.

Kerbey Lane Cafe

 Update - 1/4/2010
So, now that my husband is a health nut about what he eats, he discovered Kerbey Lane again.  We've been twice. He ordered the Portobello burger on the first visit and the next visit he had  a portobello omelet.  I had a burger the first time and the pancakes on the 2nd visit.  I've decided that the pancakes are good.  I think it's the syrup that doesn't cut the mustard for me. It's so thin and runny.

Greg was our server the first night and he did and outstanding job.  The second time we went was in the morning.  Our waitress was a nice, little blond whose name I will withhold to save face.  She seemed nice enough.  However, my husband was a little put off with her.  A familty with three kids came in and was seated next to us.  Then a couple was seated at the table in front of us.  Both familes had their orders taken and food served before our food was placed in front of us.  Our food was cold upon arrival. That irritated me slightly.  I figured that perhaps our waitress had been sidetracked and simply had forgotten about us.  She seemed to flit around the other tables often.  She came only once before coming around to give us our tab.

Because our first server was awesome and the food is pretty good, we will return.  My hopes are that blondie was having an off day.

Ok, I was told that these pancakes were out of this world. I thought, I love pancakes!! I really wanted to cut into the blissful stack placed before me.

I did...I waited for the fireworks...DUDS!! REALLY?! THESE are supposed to be the fantastical fluffy cakes described by my fellow austinites?

Ay...what utter disappointment.  They are just regular, old pancakes. Heck, my husband makes better in our kitchen.

My daughter was invited to a birthday party that was hosted at Extreme Fun.  The restrooms are very clean and have a changing table as soon as you walk in.  HUGE Plus.  They have various inflatables, a foam pit, and a small play area for the kiddies. My daughter liked the inflatables.  For the life of me, I could not keep my balance in that thing. I wish it would have had a tad more air.  The environment seemed nice and the staff was friendly enough.  The only thing I didn't really care for is that the area to sit and eat was really cramped.  It held two long picnic tables complete with benches on either side and a bench that sat along the wall.  It's good if your party has about 15 to 20 people  tops.  Other than that, you will feel like sardines.  Every time a kid walked past me, he/she would knock down my bags or bump into me.  So, I would recommend this place for small parties or to take your kid on the weekend.  It seemed safe and my daughter had a great time!

BigMas Custom Cheesecakes

Category: Restaurants

5 star rating

BigMa's Custom Cheesecakes is just starting out.  Basically, a lady makes gourmet  cheesecakes out of her kitchen and you can choose to have them delivered or pick them up.  The process is pretty simple.  You pick your type of crust, your filling, and then pick your topping.   I was told that my imagination as to the flavors was my only limitation.  I've had the key lime, white chocolate strawberry, and the pineapple so far.  All have been very, very good. The cakes are thick just like a regular cake (not served in a pie dish).  Rich, creamy and dense.  A smal slice goes a long way.  Prices depend on what you order. The cherry or strawberry with graham cracker crust is $30, the Turtle is $35-40 and the Gourmet Custom orders are $50.  The cakes are served on nine inch settings and stand about three to four inches tall.  She takes special orders for most holidays. The only downfall is that she is not set up for credit cards/debit cards and does not accept checks. So, you have to carry cash for this transaction. Small price to pay for a slice of heaven.

I've gone here after work for a few happy hours. The good thing is that they have decent drink prices and free food.  The food given away is pretty good.

The waitstaff is a little different. Most seem to be men who are trying to be women.  That doesn't bother me in the least bit so long as my service is good.  The location is in a strip mall.

Take open minded friends.
