Bombay Oven

REnewed, REvamped, and REstored!
Bombay Oven is wonderful this time around!
The interior is open, modern and inviting and the ambiance is along the same lines.
The food:
-Paneer Masala: it was new to my mom and she is now an absolute fan! Creamy, sweet, and bursting with flavor compliments jasmine rice, great naan or is tasty on its own
-Tandoori Chicken: flavorful and moist with a little kick, would order again as well

Water is ready at your table in reused wine bottles. When your mouth is on fire you don't have to wait, yay! Plus, an eco friendly option!

When I had just a bit of paneer left to-go, the owner packed it with more rice separately so that I didn't have to make more at home.
I liked that the rice was complementary.
The staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful at helping us make our selections and also telling us about the unique cuisine offered. Its Indian but catered to the California palette.

the bottom line: Give this place another try and you will be satisfied!

You know when you enter a room and there is tension or you can tell when employees are not happy with their job? Welcome to Verizon Corporate. Every time I come here it is at least an hour to do business, and that doesn't include wait time which could be hours if you are not there early, before the doors open.
I get it, it's corporate, there is rules and regulations, with cell phone plans and technicalities, the times are changing so fast they have trouble keeping up. However, Verizon in practice is a monopoly. They could care less about customer service, even though their 'service' is one of the best, and they use that to rape the consumer in every which way.
Case: My phone broke down, a new one I was 'forced' to buy is on back order and won't be in for a week and a half at least. I needed a phone for emergencies and they didn't have a loner even though I was dropping close to $400 for a new one. They said they discontinued a loner program since people stole the phones....hello!? get GPS and FIND THEM if you really want them back and charge the accounts of the thieves! Don't punish the HONEST CONSUMERS!
Case #2: odd charges keep appearing on my bill, one for 'upgraded voice mail that I never agreed to or requested. When I asked to have it erased, all my voice mails were erased as well, in the store, without a warning. When this becomes clear I was told, "things in life happen, is anyone in life really going to die?" What if I had voice mails from an abuser used as evidence MR?
The list of complaints goes on...
In general the employees are not bad people, but it is obvious there is a crunch. I was not even allowed to ask all the question I came prepared with in the store. The manager sneakily requested my attendant to 'help' him with something else and my account wasn't even done being processed!
So, my experiences have been awful here. The company is so big, has so many departments, so many loopholes and just doesn't work cohesively. As a result, the workers are pushed for time, not available for help, inefficient, and less than helpful when they are talking to you.
I still have Verizon but I can't help but feel I am giving money to a corporation that less than deserves it.

Me and my ethnic and brave food loving friends went here and loved our entire experience. They accommodated my vegetarian friend so well by being able to make anything in a vegetarian fashion. It was delicous tofu, but well seasoned and authentic. Us carnevors shared the tradional steak, bean, rice, and egg meal, way enough for two. We all shared a gorgeous house salad that was fresh and tasty. Complementary corn nuts were a great starter and the hot sauce was a hit! Service was great and quick and they were willing to check split. Such a great foodie find!

Another yogurt place.... yogurt is not self serve but toppings are and you pay by weight. Ho hum really. Toppings are limited. Original and strawberry were standard. Not a place I would elect to come to again necessarily.

Wow, it really was a sea of white! I liked everything this even had to offer from plume, to good food, mini plinko, drinks, and of course yelp shwag. Dio Deka impressed me with their fall of the bone ribs, and the meatballs are really tasty. The filo and spinach bite...too greasy. The dolma I prefer better cold but the crouton with toppings provided good taste and texture. Thanks once again yelp for a step inside someplace new!

Seeing that nightlife for dancing is a bit rare with Blue Chalk closed, this place gets the job done. The name oddly prescripts the night we were there at least...as in the crowd became more diverse and much more energetic, as if to say...this place doesn't impress B4 12. Nothing stands out as great, just home you are with your own group to make it so. Seating is limited but at least there is 2 big spaces to be either outside or in.

Update - 6/30/2010
Parul is no longer here. She took some time off to be with her visiting parents and it seems that she is not returning, at least I cannot get a clear answer out of anyone in the shop. Parul was why I went, and in hopes of her returning, is why I kept going here. I would usually get Viji, the owner who was willing to keep my brows up to my request, a little thicker. I grew them out, which can be a pain/hassle/annoyance and she kept them up well, although there was no great Parul massage at the end. Then yesterday, another woman who seems to be hired since Parul went on leave, threaded my brows so much so they were thinned out to how I proclaimed against. Viji seemed to be too busy and let somwone take over and because of this lack of attention to detail, I am on the search for a new place... bummer!

FYI: Parul now works only Tues, Wed and Thurs.  Keeping up/consistent every other week visits has helped me curb the pain and keeps me brows earning many more compliments. Thanks Parul!

After 3 consistent visits in, the shape is getting better and the pain isn't as bad as the first time!

I couldn't wait, I went back in two weeks instead of three for clean up. Parul has a really fine attention to detail. She thought she was done, about to do the aloe vera, but there was more to be threaded. Again, I'm impressed! See you in two weeks!

The brows, thanks to a friend I have become a believer. However, since her expert plucking skills are not always available, I have turned to the faith of another friend, and her heritage, for threading. I have seen the results on her face, good to more even and nicely shaped.
background: i can stand plucking and tear just a little when someone else is doing it.
the experience: I watched my pro of a friend go and couldn't wait to get in the chair. Parul was welcoming to a newbee like me. She said if it hurts too much, she will stop. With the first 'thread' I realized how much pain can be involved. Not only that, the sound effect of the hairs being pulled probably makes it worse. I teared a lot. She stated this is probably because I pluck and so the hair grows in a lot thicker. I also realize that the evenness and fullness I want is going to be a process of having repeat, consistent visits. I was a little clumbsy at holding my own brow, but this too should get better with practice. At $7 plus tip, I am willing to come back every three weeks to create admirable brows! Plus, there's a little product and massage to go along with it. And, what is beauty without a little (tollerable) pain?
The location is easy to get to and the salon is a little dated but clean. Parul comes highly recommended, but only works tues through fri until 5pm. FYI: its cash only.

If you want to go to Zambia, there is no avoiding this business since a visa is required and they are the only processors in the USA. However, there are a few warnings stemming out of my experience:
A friend and I needed rush service since we needed multiple visas while traveling in Africa. We paid an extra $50 each for same day service when in actuality we got next day or 2 day service. To make things go smooth we had expedited service from the post office as well, totaling almost $70 extra per person (in addition to the visa fee) to make sure we got the visas quickly. Fine, so they didn't expedite our paperwork. However the real disgust and shame comes from dealing with them after the fact. I sent proof of the envelopes and visa receipts, countless emails and phone calls. When they did answer, I was told multiple stories, excuses, "oh just send an email". In a year they have not once got back to me. The result, $120 loss. in addition, I feel like a stereotype has just been renewed. I have lived in Africa twice now and working alongside people with different values has been quite a struggle even though we both have the same end result in mind. I feel the Zambian Embassy is the same way; containing laziness, excuse giving, pseudo working, feeding of words/what you want to hear, and lies. I sponsor a child in this country and it disgusts me that their representation in the US is this way.

Reviewed by: A native Californian in New York. I absolutely love the atmosphere! The lighting, the seating, the decor captures the mystere of far away lands. However, during our tour, there were some kinks to be worked out. The sangria, while it serves 4 quite well, is really like punch and any guest from across the Atlantic would disapprove. Also, the staff were unaccomodating with their roles. ie; we needed new coles for our hookah and a man changed them but added 'you know this is not my job, next time...." Also the total includes a tip and then has an 'additional sugestion' of an added 20%!! If you are rushed and trying to see as much of NYC by night, on your last ngiht you might just fall for this scam! The dancing is good but the music doesn't quite fit, its more south of the boarder... and eastern. All in all though...good times can be had here for sure!
