What a wonderful experience it was to visit the Portfolio Kitchen and Home store! My niece goes to school nearby and has visited this store a few times to get inspired. I was thrilled to hear how welcoming they were to a college design student looking for ideas and inspirations. The minute we approached the front doors it felt like home - or should I say how I want my home to look and feel! I loved the way they were interested in our lifestyles, and when I mentioned my niece was a vegetarian they had the coolest ideas ever as to how to configure a kitchen for this lifestyle.

The Thermador kitchen that was functioning was beautiful and functional, and I now HAVE to have one of their steam convection ovens.

Thank-you so much to the wonderful Portfolio team - I will be recommending them to anyone wanting to make their house a home.

We have 4 dogs that are at the best... challenging... and the only person that I would trust to take care of them is Boykin Kennel. Carol came highly recommended by my vet for good reason - he trusts her to take care of his own pets, and Carol treats my pets like her own.

The kennel is spotless - I've never seen one as clean as hers, and our "kids" love going to visit Ms. Carol. We trust Ms. Carol like no one else, and don't know what we would do without her and Boykin Kennel!

Let me just say, I love Sweet Tomatoes. When I lived in Tucson I probably ate there at least once a week. So any chance I have to go by a Sweet Tomatoes is an opportunity I grab.

I have had issues with the staff here in the past, but I had high hopes that today would be different. I checked out what the options were so I would know how I would structure my take-out order, and when I went up to order and pay, they told me I couldn't order take out because they hadn't any containers for a week! Seriously... you are almost in the parking lot of a Costco and you couldn't have figured out a replacement?

No I'm so sorry, no have a free drink or let us comp you when you visit us again... nothing.

The good news? I went to Eatzi's instead, got a great salad, and discovered a salad dressing that I'll be craving for a long, long time. Thanks Sweet Tomatoes!

I went to this store looking for a Christmas present for my granddaughter and was sickened by what I saw. The poor babies were in cages with wire bottoms and didn't have anything to sit on - many of them were so small that their paws were getting caught in the grates. The animals were very lethargic, and I was shocked to see the employees give around a 2 yr. old child a Chihuahua puppy to hold, and the child promptly dropped it! When I questioned them about where the puppies came from they got very defensive and wouldn't give me a straight answer.

These are definitely "puppy mill" puppies and many of them looked sick. I went from there and found the perfect companion at the SPCA.

Chili's Grill & Bar

This Chilis is one of the worst I've ever been to. Managers that just don't care, staff hanging out smoking while in uniform by the entrance and food that is usually wrong or cold.

I should have known better but a Peppercorn Burger sounded really good today so I called in an order. The girl who took the order was clueless, could not repeat to me what I ordered correctly, and when I asked for a total she put me on hold for at least 10 minutes and never came back on the line.

I gave up and called back, and when she told me she still had not placed the order and it would be an additional 20 minutes I asked for the manager. He acted like he could not have cared less about my issues and when I said to just cancel it he didn't make any effort to keep my business.

Why this location is still open is one of life's great mysteries.

If I could give this place no stars I would. My wonderful sister and brother-in-law were in town for TX / OU Weekend and were staying at the W so they invited me to have dinner at Craft with them and then drinks here. Apparently they wouldn't let BIL in Ghost Bar last time because he had shorts on but trust me I'm sure they were nice shorts - he has impeccable taste.

Always the perfect host BIL tipped everyone handsomely to get us a great table, and they escorted us up, but wouldn't let me take the bag of goodies from Craft up with me. Checked them at the door and we were good. That is until we got up there -I've seen better crowds at McDonalds by the bus station. Plus the fact that the prices were ridiculous! I've been to the Ghost Bar in Las Vegas and the only similarity was the name. After about 30 minutes we were bored and headed out, and the idiot at the door actually gave me a hard time because I wanted to retrieve my Craft bag of goodies that he called leftovers. I called them the meal I ordered for my roommate that couldn't come because she was sick.

This place needs to get over itself and hire some new people. Not only will any of us NEVER go back, we'll be telling our friends that can afford the $1,000 + bottles of champagne they try and get you to order never to go as well.

Patrizio's

I've been eating at Patrizio's restaurants for years and was thrilled when they came to Cedar Hill. The food is always fresh and the prices are fair, so it's the perfect take out choice when I want to eat healthy and I'm too lazy to cook.

When I called in my order - 2 house salads and a grilled chicken salad - the person who took my order said it would be $7+ which seemed strange because the chicken salad alone is over $10.00 and well worth it. Featuring perfectly grilled chicken, hearts of palm, red bell pepper, artichoke hearts, bacon and croutons it is then dressed with a pesto and their divine house dressing.  When I questioned the cost, the order taker said she only wrote down 1 house salad so the total was $12+. I gave up and took her word for it after I questioned the total again.

Talk about disappointing - the salads had about 10 pcs of lettuce each, no croutons, and the grilled chicken salad had lettuce and chicken - period. I would have happily paid the correct price for what I thought I was ordering, but how many times do you need to question someone???

One of my biggest issues that seems to be constant with their take out is the bread -it is always hard as a rock. I don't know if they keep it steamed at the restaurant and it dries out after it is away from the steam, but this happens every time.

Being a good Yelper, I called the restaurant to make them aware of the issues so someone else wouldn't be disappointed. Called once - he was in a meeting so I left a message, called back 3 hours later and he "wasn't available".

I'm thinking there need to be some changes here before I go back - obviously they have no interest in my business.

Celebration Restaurant

Don't get me wrong -there are so many things I love about Celebration, but the staff during my last visit made me wish I had gone somewhere else.

When a group of folks arrived in Dallas in the afternoon by Southwest and wanted a recommendation for where to go to eat, Celebration was my first choice. I try to eat local whenever I get the chance,  and Celebration goes the extra mile by identifying not only which items on the menu are locally grown, but which farms they come from. Everyone could not have been nicer, our order was taken in an acceptable amount of time (we arrived at 2pm so it wasn't lunch rush hour), but thinking that we could order and enjoy lunch in 1 1/2 hours was a huge mistake.

Order was taken promptly but we didn't see anyone for awhile after that. Thought it was odd, but got crazy when I went to the rest room and our waiter was in there... on the phone. She had to know that we were one of her tables but yet she didn't leave and continued her conversation to her mother for another 5 minutes.

Unfortunately I had scheduled a meeting 2 hrs after lunch, so by the time our meals were served I was anxious to leave.  We had no tea refills and no checking on how we were doing. The food was amazing as always - I think I could live on the cucumber dressing. But being late for my meeting afterward because of the wait staff was very disappointing.

Celebration is a very important part of many of our food memories in Dallas, but if they wish to be a part of my kids and grand kids memories they really need to focus on their wait staff.

Menchie's

I guess I'm going to be the one with a different experience here - I LOVE Menchie's!

Came the first time with my sister and nephew. I'd seen it dozens of times before, but usually frozen yogurt isn't my thing. Chef Joanne Bondy at the Gaylord Texan taught me that your taste buds completely change every seven years, and I have always loved sweet stuff but lately not as much. Usually ice cream and yogurt tends to be really sweet, but after trying  a few samples here my opinion changed - it was the perfect blend of sweet and tart depending on what choices you made.

Since that initial trip I haven't been able to stop thinking about this destination, and when I went there today I wasn't disappointed. Plenty of sweet or tart choices, and I added fresh strawberries and peaches with a touch of caramel and I could not have been happier. I guess thankfully all patrons were well behaved on both of my visits and staff was very pleasant. And I'm good with the pay by weight - the price seemed very fair for what I purchased.

Cooter's Village Camera Shop - CLOSED

Neighborhood: Highland Park

In this age of online experiences and personal, local service not being an option Cooters is the poster child for how a business should be run.

My roommate is a professional photographer and she has tried getting her prints done at numerous retailers and stores, but no one gives her the attention to detail and customer service that this location does. For almost the price you pay anywhere else they color correct and tweak your shots making sure that what you receive is something you will be proud of.

And it is a really fun place to shop! They have great camera equipment, cards and gifts, and their staff really knows what they are talking about and seem to love being there. As a matter of fact. most of them seem to be long term employees which tells you what a great place this is to be. If you are looking for a superstore that has every camera and accessory known to man in stock, this isn't the place but I bet they would be happy to find you what you are looking for and then you would have the added bonus of being able to have them advise and troubleshoot in the future.
