4 for snorkeling. There is an excellent snorkeling right there. Two little "island reefs" about 100-200 yards out and between the beach and that spot it's about 3-6 feet deep,...but around that spot and just past it, it drops off to 25-50+ feet. Incredible! So much life right around there.

Kalalau Trail

The most beautiful - best - hike I have ever been on. Period.

If you go to Kauai planning to hike, you must hike along the northwestern coast. Starts at Ke'e Beach and hugs the Napali coast. About a mile or so to another small beach and then another mile or so up to the Hanakapi'ai Falls. (jump in, freezing but worth it).

It's a fairly difficult hike - mainly because of all the ups and downs and because it hugs the coast at such a steep incline. This is not a casual walk. But if you can hike at all, you should try it. It will be one of your "favorites". Though I was sore for another day.

When in Kauai, you must visit this spot. Go early, around 5pm (yes, in the dark) and watch the colors in the sky change as the sun comes up. It's spectacular.

Then hike the Kalalau Trail that starts right at the beach and follows the coast. A mile or two up, you will get to another trail that you can take up to Hanakapi'ai Falls. The water's freezing but worth it. Swim out under the falling water. You might consider not doing it, but do it anyway...it will be so worth it.

From the beach, to the trail that goes up to the falls is about 1 1/2 miles (I think) and then about that up to the falls. The entire hike is only a few miles long, but it will take you longer than you think because of the ups and downs and because the path hugs the cliffs winding in and out along the coast. Plan on 1/2 day for this...or more.

Another great hike is going along the cliffs from the top (starting up at the canyon). To get there you need to go around the island and drive up the mountains from the south side.

This is one of the few very good Thai restaurants in Virginia. The decor is fair, the place is clean, the food is great.

I typically search out places like Hummas - and in fact, I love places like this. Most of these small or family run kabob places are decent and I've rarely eaten a bad kabob anywhere. But this is one of the few that I'll take the time to review and give 4 stars.

I had the chicken breast platter with pita, hummus, rice & tomato, cucumber - and while i might not go to the moon for it, I'll definitely go back again when I'm in University City. I thought it was quite good and a very decent value - and will be one of those places I frequent because it was right the first time.

The food was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the serving size was just right. The place was clean and easy to get into safely. Yes, it is a small place but comfortable.

Ok, I don't usually provide a review all because of one sandwich (but it was a really good one). I had the short rib sandwich with garlic shallot aioli, cheddar, arugula, and mushrooms.

It was one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten in Philly. I loved it. They had other good items as well, but I was too focused on my plate to really notice.

I'll definitely go back. I'd go across town for this sandwich. If you ever find yourself in Society Hill, its on the corner of South Street and S 2nd.

Tasted kind of like a warm, friendly beef stew on a dreary, winter day.

The place is located in Wayne, right off Route 30 - Lancaster Ave. The place was clean, and seemed like a good place for a casual business lunch. I had the Thai Chicken Salad (very good).

The Coriander Ahi Salad, the Crispy Calamari Salad, the Crispy Calamari, and the Shrimp and Crab Salad all looked good as well.

It was all good. Not great. But good. I'll definitely go back.

A few Saturday's ago - or maybe it was a Sunday, I forget - I walked in during lunch hour and there was a line going out the door. Just the other Saturday (around 5pm) it wasn't crowded at all. Hit or miss I guess...or maybe it's just really busy during lunch.

Anyway, the beef of brisket sandwich was great. So was the matzoh ball soup. Others I was with had the reuben corned beef sandwich. It was also very good. Hymie's have a nice pickle/salad bar near the back that has those big deli pickles, plum tomatoes, onions, etc.

The place was clean, the staff is nice, the food is very good. The place is comfortable. I like this place. I'll definitely go back.

Great Indian food. I had the lunch buffet during the weekday. Probably the best buffet I've had...period. Very good Tandoori Chicken. Butter Chicken was great too. So were all the other lunch items.

It's definitely one of the best Indian places I've been to and one of my top four in the area (Heritage, Haandi, and Akbar in Baltimore - being the other three). This is out of maybe 10-12 Indian places I've been to in the larger DC/VA/MD metro area.

The food is great, the place is very attractive and nicely furnished - and very clean. I recommend this place.

Pannikin Coffee & Tea

If you ever wondered what it would be like to be invited over to the Swiss Family Robinson's for coffee, then visit Pannikin in Encinitas, California.

I live on the East Coast and over there (or rather here) we don't have coffee shops that look like huge tree houses. That's one of the many reasons why I want to move out west - that and Mt. Tam. / Muir Woods.

I spend a lot of time in coffee shops (4-6 times per week over 7-8 years in meetings, client conference calls or doing client work, or interviewing, or just relaxing and reading online) and I really like this place better than most - though I know if I had this place out East I wouldn't get a thing done. I'd just sit and drink my coffee and think back to my childhood (when I had a tree house). People would wonder where my head was, and I'd have to go back to those other boring coffee shops to finally get some work done.

This is the kind of place you want to go to with your soon-to-be-obsolete newspaper and chill, read, relax, and enjoy.

The coffee is great, the people are nice. It's really neat. You should go sometime. And remember, when you are there, to ask yourself if it doesn't remind you of a huge yellow tree house (ok, at least the neighbor's bungalow down the street?).

Anyway, I recommend this place.
