I finally got around to having dinner here. It's fantastic. The sweetbreads are outstanding. Everything is done well, but it's so expensive. Dinner for two + wine + desert + tip = $250. Ouch!
I've only been here for brunch, and I can imagine dinner being an entirely different situation, but I couldn't figure out why I was paying a fortune for a blatantly ordinary brunch that can be found at any number of eateries in the area.

These guys have the worst customer service I've ever experienced The employees of this store have no idea what they're doing. They don't know where anything is located. And it's not just that they *can't* help you...it's that that they *won't* even try. I usually avoid store clerks like the plague, but J & R has such a confusing layout that you absolutely need a human being to help you. And anyone who works there is apparently not paid enough to even acknowledge your existence when you talk directly to them. This has been the case for the last 7 years that I've been stupid enough to patronize them.
That said, it's a nearly unavoidable experience if you're looking to make certain purchases in downtown NYC.

The mac and cheese was really dry and not at all cheesy.
Bummer.
