A major disappointment. My ribs were burnt. Not blackened. Not charred. Burnt. Really burnt. But at least burnt is a flavor. Once I sunk my teeth in I was greeted with something that was completely lacking in any sort of flavor. I'm not even sure how this is possible. I had to drown it them in sauce to make them edible.

The mac and cheese was really dry  and not at all cheesy.

Bummer.

A recent outing was seriously disappointing.  I just don't know what to say.  Three out of the four people in our party did not enjoy their meals.

I finally got around to having dinner here.  It's fantastic.  The sweetbreads are outstanding.  Everything is done well, but it's so expensive.  Dinner for two + wine + desert + tip = $250.  Ouch!

I've only been here for brunch, and I can imagine dinner being an entirely different situation, but I couldn't figure out why I was paying a fortune for a blatantly ordinary brunch that can be found at any number of eateries in the area.

After talking to some residents and doing some research, I came to the sad conclusion that there's no place for a foodie to go for a nice dinner in the area.  Then I found Six Burner Bistro.  The food is thoughtful, attractive and well prepared.

The setting and the menu are both a little strange. While this is a cozy place to have a quiet dinner, there's also a take-out counter (separate entrance) that can be a bit deceiving.  The menu is disjointed as well, with bits of mediterranean and asian fare tucked in amongst an otherwise solid American bistro menu. I assume that these bits are added to serve the needs of a small college town with few restaurants, and even fewer cuisines cuisines.  That all said, the food is simply excellent.

Try the mozzarella (made in house!) salad and the roasted garlic and goat cheese plate.  Follow those with a perfectly cooked steak and you'll learn the truth -- that good food really does exist in Plymouth, NH.

This place doesn't know what it wants to be. Posh lounge? Sports bar? Wedding Reception? Eating Establishment? Karaoke bar? The only thing they know for sure is that they love Dave Matthews Band enough to play full live albums all the way through during business hours.  My confusion kept me entertained for a few minutes...then I was out of there.

I really like this place.  The mood, the music, the staff and the beers are all perfectly matched.  Even the food is good.  Everything is done with great care and it shows.

Want a tripple espresso?  They won't give it to you.  Want an espresso to go?  They won't give it to you.  Want them to insist on giving you an Americano (while insisting that you're too stupid to know what an Americano is) instead of what you actually ordered? OK.  That one they'll do.

Great coffee.  Pompous rules.   As a coffee geek, I was excited to have a decent coffee place in the neighborhood.  But this place literally refuses to fulfill my order, so I'll have to look elsewhere.

Note:  The staff is not rude, nor incompetent.  They're just oddly proud to drive away customers whose orders they deem unworthy of their business.

Ugh.  These guys are still the worst!  The only reason to go to J&R is impatience.  You only show up there if you need it today!  To save your sanity, just go to B&H or even Best Buy if you need it that bad.  Or order from NewEgg.  Their deliveries frequently make it to NYC within 24 hours of ordering.

These guys have the worst customer service I've ever experienced  The employees of this store have no idea what they're doing.  They don't know where anything is located.  And it's not just that they *can't* help you...it's that that they *won't* even try.  I usually avoid store clerks like the plague, but J & R has such a confusing layout that you absolutely need a human being to help you.  And anyone who works there is apparently not paid enough to even acknowledge your existence when you talk directly to them.  This has been the case for the last 7 years that I've been stupid enough to patronize them.

That said, it's a nearly unavoidable experience if you're looking to make certain purchases in downtown NYC.
