First, a backstory, which will help illustrate exactly why I am so freakin' thrilled about my salon results today. While pressed for time one day, I had gone to a different local salon before a job interview for a quick root touchup and a basic trim. I was holding back tears when I left, because I had no idea how I was going to fix the mess that was made. Weird chunks cut off the side, the pre-mentioned uneven yellow tones and fried spots where the guy just left the flat iron on my hair while he was momentarily distracted by his favorite Kelly Clarkson song. I basically just had to wear my hair up in a clip until my roots were grown long enough to warrant an appointment.
I'm terrible at describing what I want and half the time, the picture in my head is impossible due to the weird layers and whatnot left over from the mistakes of other hairdressers. "you know, I want something pearly, but ash with, like, champagne-ish in the sunlight, right? and then like, a Drew Barrymore in Scream, but like more blunt and modern. You know what I mean?" Today I went to Mitra's and Tisha was somehow able to decode the nonsensical description of what I wanted. I ended up leaving the salon with possibly the best color combo and bad-cut salvage I have ever had. I am seriously impressed, the color came out precise and perfect. The roots aren't yellow and match the rest of my hair. She nailed the specific color I wanted and blended in the weird Carol Brady on crack haircut the other guy gave me so well that I actually received compliments on it the rest of the night . Confidence regained, job well done.
Mitra's itself is a nice spa-like salon, in an older building in Orange. It is stand alone, not in a strip mall, which is a nice change of pace. It gives the feeling of a little more intimacy, less like the fast food equivalent of a hair salon feel some other places have. I paid $65 for the color/cut/style which is fairly typical as far as prices go.
I have not tried any of the other services, so I cannot speak for any of those, but if you are looking for a new 'do from someone with a creative eye and passion for what she does, I would highly recommend making an appointment with Tisha.
