I saw Alisa for an eyebrow wax at lunch today. She's very polite, considerate, and has gentle hands. I have extremely reactive skin, so when she noticed that the redness around my brows wasn't really going down, she used some high-frequency device to try and reduce the red...and it seemed to work!

All in all, I'd come back if I lived in SF.

Bauhaus Books & Coffee

Bauhaus never fails to disappoint my people-watching urges. From the artist who takes up an entire table with his GIANT INK SKETCH to the guy reading a coffee-table book on art (did he find it there, or did he carry it over?) and all the crazy tattoos and hair...it's like a feast for the eyes.

The coffee is fine, and the atmosphere is a bit dark and cramped, but if you're into that it's definitely gonna hit the spot. I love that Bauhaus is easily the best place for late night barista coffee! After 6 pm all the other places close and Bauhaus stands alone. At least on the hill!

Third Vivace review in one night - I'm trying to catch up with my reviews, lazy lazy me...But regardless of my personal failings, this cup of Vivace coffee is definitely assisting with my being a better person, and Yelp-ing like mad!

Vivace never disappoints, what with their Macrina bakery goods, their tasty biscotti, their smooth and delightful coffee drinks, and their impeccably decorated locations. They're always tasteful, spacious, and calming. Love love love Vivace! Thanks for being awesome, guys.

Oh look, I reviewed the Alley 24 location and mixed it up with the Sidewalk bar location...please forgive me! Anyhow, A+ to good service and excellent coffee, regardless of where it is and whether I reviewed the correct location! Plenty ok to give me a gentle slap on the wrist for my errors, Yelp community...

Service is great here, and being able to sit on the sidewalk when the weather is nice is sooo good! Now that it's spring again, I'm looking forward to many Vivace sidewalk drinks.

I enjoy their coffee here, it's neither burnt nor weak. I think that's the best way to describe a good cup of coffee, and I wish I could describe it as a series of positives...but this works too! Anyhow, walk by and stop in sometime, it wil be worth it.

Easily the best Mexican dinner I've had in Seattle. We started with an appetizer of fried plantains and guacamole, which was absolutely delicious. It was hard to stop eating the appetizer so that I would save room for dinner! My husband had some sort of fish taco, and I had one of their three different moles (!!) I enjoyed the mole a lot. I wish I could remember which one I had, so that I could report back. I'm sure that they're all amazing...I saw another person order something with mole and it was a different color than mine, and they seemed to love it too...I enjoyed my tortillas very much as well, they were a nice soft corn with a little bit of charring. Delicious!

They have great drinks as well. I had a margarita, then I had another margarita, and I may have had another margarita after that but it's hard to say.

Service is very polite and attentive. I am definitely sad that this place is in Fremont because I hardly ever get out that far from the Hill, but I do look forward to future dinners at Peso's!

The Children's Museum

So, I hadn't been to the Children's Museum before, and they had a LEGO special event, so that was pretty much all I needed to bring my seven year old and go play with LEGOs!

The event was really a disappointment, it was three ladies each at a table with one or two LEGO sets well-organized in plastic bags. The ladies watched you while you played with the set, and then made sure that you put it back in the bag properly when you were done. Great for organization, but terrible for fun spontaneous playing.

However, the museum itself is great. I love the play theater, and the play supermarket, and all of the other places they have made these full-sized replicas of awesome things that kid's don't normally get to see - a Japanese house, an African barbershop, and so on.

My visit was near St. Patrick's day, so there was an unexpected bonus - there was a holiday-themed scavenger hunt that tested kids' reading and ciphering abilities. It was a lot of fun to run back and forth, looking for runes to spell out our secret code.

The servers were very nice, letting my somewhat-large happy-hour snacks & drinks party sit in the dining area. They were also clear from the start that we had to give up the table at a certain time, as it was reserved for an actual dinner party. This was totally ok.

Our experience was up and down the whole time - a server spilled a couple of sangrias on the table next to us, and glass and red wine flew everywhere. They replaced our possibly glass-contaminated chips and salsa and frybread without us having to ask. They were very efficient with the cleanup and everything; it was just a big surprise.

I wanted a margarita not made with sour mix, so I described to my server what I wanted...a "real" margarita. What was funny was that he decided I was ordering a tequila rickey, which, while technically a possible name for the drink, you'd think a tequila bar/Mexican themed place might know what a margarita made without sour mix is!

The decor is really nice and bright - it definitely stands out against the typical grey Seattle day.

It is nice that this place opened so near my place of employment, and I am extremely excited for their outdoor seating. I don't know if I had such an overwhelmingly great time that I'd come back here often - but I do think I need to come here for either lunch or dinner to get a more representative idea of service level and so on.

Wax On Spa

Service is nice and efficient. I would prefer a bit more 'nice' over the 'efficient', but I can't really complain. The atmosphere is nice and clean, space feels a bit tight. I guess I expect, at this price, to feel like I'm attending a luxurious palace of lady friendliness, and I didn't get that at all. Also, the wax they use is a bit hard on the skin. I was very, very tender and red after my Brazilian. I know it's a tender area in general, but this was just insane...uncomfortable!

However, they do score points for being fast (again with the efficient) and very clean. I think I'll be experimenting with other waxing studios around, though. I think my favorite place in Capitol Hill so far is Dewi.
