Red Brick Pizza

Category: Pizza

4.0 star rating
1/23/2012
We tried Red Brick Pizza for the first time yesterday and liked it so well we came back today with our son to try their gluten-free options.

Their pizza is quite good and worth the premium for the quality ingredients.  The crust was great and just crispy enough.  The next day, I tried the same pizza I had the day before but this time with the gluten free crust.  Surprisingly good!  You have to wait a few extra minutes for the gluten free dough but if your family loves pizza and you want gluten free options this is a great place.  Every pizza is available gluten free except one.

The staff is very friendly, and the place is very clean.  The flat screen TVs in the booths are an interesting idea but we turned ours off after a few minutes.  We tried the Caesar salad the first night, and the Italian salad the second night.  A large is plenty for a table of three or four.  The small pizzas are just right for one.

We indulged in their gourmet gelato at the end of the meal.  Delicious!  For the obvious quality in the food, this is not expensive.  More casual than Fireside, equally delicious, with the added bonus of gluten free.

The CiCi's and Double Dave's and Pizza Hut crowd won't appreciate the difference in Red Brick.  Red Brick is for people who love pizza but feel that the chain pizzas are just a little unhealthy and don't feel like table service from Fireside.

Welcome to Colleyville Red Brick - much success.  We plan on being back several times a month!

Dr. Grover is one of the best medical/dental professionals I have ever worked with over my 50+ years.  Several years ago, my great dentist (Dr. Ellis, Gateway Dental, Colleyville) referred me to Dr. Grover to take care of a fairly complex situation which required a bone graft and an implant to repair.

Dr. Grover worked with me patiently and expertly to take care of this situation and even accomodated my request NOT to have general anesthesia during the several hour procedure.  I asked him to explain everything he was doing and even requested a mirror now and then for the interesting bits.  I was fascinated by the procedure and learned a lot from his detailed explanations along the way.

My recovery went as expected and 6 years later I am still happily chewing ice on his work as I write this.  When you need advanced dental work, Dr. Grover is the best!

I have been going to Dr. Ellis (and occasionally his partner Dr. Calabria) ever since they opened in this location.

The front desk, the hygienists, the assistants, and the dentists are FANTASTIC.  Everyone is so nice and helpful.  Dr. Ellis is a great dentist and is not afraid to refer to great specialists.  I can not recommend Gateway Dental highly enough.  Whether you prefer a man (Dr. Ellis) or a woman (Dr. Calabria) dentist - you can trust your teeth to this practice.

Waterfront Grill

I was introduced to the Waterfront Grill a few years ago while on business.  The Catfish Desiard is their signature dish.  I guarantee you have never had such delicately flavored catfish.  The breaded topping they put on the fish is delicious.  Eat it with the fish, or push it aside and enjoy the fish separately.  I like to eat the catfish by itself with some of their homemade remoulade sauce for a little extra zip.  Then I enjoy as much of the bread topping as I can after I have finished the fish.  All of the other good comments here on Yelp are correct so I will simply say - don't miss the Catfish Desiard!  If you are not hungry, it is certainly large enough to share.  We actually plan our cross country drives from Dallas so that we arrive at lunch time just for this dish.  Everything else is good too, but once I had the catfish, that was it for me.

I find the service quite good.  The owner is usually there and very attentive.  The locals love the place.  Travellers love the place.  You just can't go wrong.

J.R.'s Steakhouse

This restaurant is being compared to other $100+ per couple places and as such rates a generous one star.

Everybody raves about the barbecued bacon-wrapped lobster. The bacon was tough, the lobster was rubbery - not just chewy - rubbery.

Another reviewer had a cocktail that she said tasted like cough syrup. Good description of my Long Island Ice Tea. How do you mess up four whites, Collins, and Coke or tea?  Easy, get the whites out of proportion and forget the coke or tea. I sent it back, they fixed it.

Delicious loaf of bread totally ruined by over-garlic'd butter with CHILI FLAKES?  Asked for some regular butter and was brought a mess which was practically liquid, then finally got some rock hard butter which I had to shave down to spread.

Could it get worse?  Oh yes, it could. How do you mess up a classic wedge salad?  Put two cold strips of bacon across it and make the diner hack away at them instead of using traditional bacon crumbles.

The homemade bleu cheese dressing was delicious.

My wife's lobster bisque was delicious as were her bacon-wrapped petite filets.

My sea bass was just ok - for the price it should have been outstanding. It was on the edge of becoming chewy, but that's what you get for ordering fish in a steak house. The avocado mess they provide with the fish was unattractive, delicious, but not appetizing nestled next to sea bass. The rice was too salty to eat.

My wife had nicely cooked asparagus on her plate, the side asparagus for the table was undercooked.

We could not wait to get out. We will not be back.

The service was excellent, though it would seem that they could have run around with their measuring stick positioning tables before opening. We were the second table seated, but this activity going on was not classy, it was pretentious and disrespectful. The tables should have been aligned before opening. They were perfectly aligned, sparkling, beautiful, but set them up on your time, not mine.

They are obviously trying real hard, the wait staff is great, the dining room is beautiful, but at $100+ per couple they don't get a second chance to make a good first impression.

Want a fantastic meal, consistently good, great service, equivalent atmosphere, great beef - Boi Na Braza, right across the freeway. I wanted to like JR's, I really did. I walked in the door expecting to be wowed.  Sadly, not.

Boba Factory - CLOSED

There is only one Boba Factory so if you want to try these fantastic teas and smoothies you have to come to Colleyville.

The green apple smoothy - with or without Bobas - is the most refreshing drink I have ever tasted.

What's a boba you say?  It is little balls of tapioca starch prepared in such a way that it is just the right size to suck up the special straws. They are sweet, chewy, and delicious.  Don't think tapioca pudding. This taste is altogether different.

The owners are always experimenting with new flavors. The staff is pleasant and helpful. Grab a Subway sandwich next door and then treat yourself to the most unique, refreshing, and delicious drinks you will ever have. Truly one of a kind and until they expand, only in Colleyville. Take THAT Southlake Town Center!  You can have your chain stores, Boba Factory is worth finding again and again.  Just down the street from Starbucks and across from McDonalds on 26.  Great refresher after a workout at Lifetime too!

Pay attention!  This is a five star motel, not a five star resort. For the value, for the cleanliness, and for the friendly front office which rivals the best hotels - and I travel for a living - they get 5 stars.

I stayed here for the first time three weeks ago. The place looks to have been built late 60's but is clean and painted.  Rooms are very clean with basic furniture. A little larger than normal motel rooms. Mini fridge and mini microwave in room. Bathrooms are dated but very clean and functional. You can pay twice as much for a newish motel with flat screen TVs and fancy low flow toilets but at the end of the day when you close your eyes all you want is clean and quiet.

The free breakfast is basic coffee, juice, and carbs. Again, pay twice as much and get minimal protein added someplace else, or take yourself out for a full breakfast. They do have make your own waffles and the breakfast is equivalent to what I have seen elsewhere.

I walked in the door three weeks after my first stay with no reservation and the nice guy on the front desk said "You're back!" and offered me the same room and rate. Now, I only interacted with him for 1 minute or so when I checked in last time so I was pretty impressed. I have stayed on long term assignment at major, very expensive, hotels and had the front desk staff fail to recognize or greet me after three months and over 50 nights returning week after week.

So, for the price, and the staff, and the cleanliness, this family establishment gets 5 stars. When you are popping off the interstate tired and in no mood for surprises, this place fits the bill.

Have been to Kenny's for lunch twice now.  You wouldn't think that something hidden away in a strip mall could be so good but boy howdy.

Salmon Caesar - fantastic.  The piece of salmon could have just as easily been an entree.

Their popovers are fantastic.   Service, flawless.  Prices on the high-ish side for lunch but worth it.  Their side items are great - especially the adult Mac and Cheese as others have mentioned.

You can read all the other reviews on the food, what I
want to mention is the people ... Sooooooooo nice.  The food was good, portions huge, deserts gigandamundous huge blah blah blah - all true.  But what was really impressive was everyone from the front door to the manager to the busboys were just incredibly nice and helpful.  We went on a Sunday night with a party of eleven in a full restaurant and had prompt service, fast drink refills, and just a great time.  Kudos to the manager at this location for running a great show.

JR's Grill

Category: American (Traditional)

3.0 star rating

If you are looking for an upscale sports grill, this is it.

If you are looking for food which lives up to JR's and is worth the price...not so much,

I started off with a house margarita.  Should have gone next door to La Ha as it was possibly the worst mixed margarita I have ever had.  How do you mess up mix and tequila on the rocks?

I had the $9 Bourbon Smoked Chicken Salad sandwich,.  Sounded delicious.  What came out of the kitchen was a sloppy soupy mess of chicken and wet stuff on supermarket quality sourdough bread.  It could have been spectacular.  What I could taste of the chicken through the glop was probably delicious, I think, not sure really.  Asked to sub a house salad for the cole slaw, no could do.  A restaurant where you can't sub even for an upcharge?  They said "no, you can simply not get a side and buy a salad."  Hmmmm....  My comment to my wife was that the Chick-Fil-A chicken salad sandwich on toasted whole wheat was better.  If they can make their Bourbon Smoke Chicken chicken salad with the same just right texture and moisure of the Chick-Fil-A sandwich, they will have winner.  But the fact that I am comparing a $9 "gourmet" restaurant sandwich to a fast food sandwich should tell you how far they have to go.

The service - from front door hostesses through the waiter to the bussers was good, very pleasant and prompt.

My wife had a burger, good.  Nothing to write home about.  Smashed potatoes.  Good.  Nothing to write home about.

But - if you are looking for an upscale sports grill that doesn't stink of smoke and you can be comfortable dressing up or down, this is it.  I'll try them again.  They weren't bad, they just weren't JR's on the yummy scale.
