I like it when good food makes it's way south. The sweet potato fries with a side of their jalapeño ranch come highly recommended.

Here's what we ate:
roasted garlic and potato bisque, purple chips, thyme  - 7
pumpkin parpadelle, kale, wild mushrooms, white asparagus, white wine garlic  -- 16
bison bolognese, Romano cheese, fresh linguini  -- 18
Housemade Autumn Sangria  -- 10
pears, apples, grapes, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, red wine, rum

Verdict:
The soup and the pappardelle were good. The Sangria had a cough syrup-ish taste. Prolly should have gone with the Allagash. The service was attentive and the food was pretty good, though kinda unmemorable. No dessert options available. I'd go again for a drink.

The matzoh balls are light and fluffy. The pastrami is out of this world. The "new" pickles and Celray seal the deal. It's a bit pricey, but maybe that's what quality costs these days.

I was heartbroken when Pluto closed up shop and delighted that the proprietor's reincarnated in the form of Davis Squared a little while later. The owner is delightful and has a knack for stocking cute, personable gifts. It's a neighborhood treasure and my go-to spot for hostess / baby / bday / holiday gifts. They even started carrying Goorin Bros hats.

Sandwiches - fresh. Hot beverages - toasty. Red velvet cupcake - perfect late morning pick-me-up. (The server indulged my request for the middle one without batting an eyelash about me being a pain-in-the-a$$.)

Next time I want frozen cake I'll stick with Sara Lee.

UPDATE:
Despite my initial disgust, my boyfriend saved the cake from being summarily tossed out and inadvertently left it out on the counter overnight. By morning it had defrosted and was decent. If I could add a 1/2 star I would... but anything more would be overkill. Unless you're unconscious, you know when you are serving someone a thoroughly frozen cake. Just sayin'...

This is a real gem for Allston. The dude and I went here to scope it out as a date night option. Worked out pretty well.

I've read the other reviews about the service being terrible. That was not our experience. Our food was served promptly and with a smile. The dude did his stupid french mispronunciations jokes and they laughed like they hadn't heard it before. Actually, they may not have. The staff was mostly new hires and were a little green. Prolly has something to do with those terrible reviews.

We started with the fondue. It was super yum and the perfect thing to hold off my hunger. I got the short rib and he got the roasted half chicken. Both were simple and tender - cooked to perfection. Seriously amazing.

For dessert we split the creme brulee. Meh. It was a little over-bruleed. The top was like a pane of glass. Not the worst but coulda been better. It's our own damn fault - we should have pre-ordered the souffle.

Teeny tiny critiques: the lights were on full blast and could use a little dimmer softening action. There was a strong cleaning product smell that I was worried would over power the meal, but turns out my palate isn't that sensitive and I adjusted. Hey- better to know they at least clean the place, no?

All in all, great place and we will go back.

The tomato soup is fresh, divine and pairs well with the gourmet grilled cheese.

The tater tots... don't even start me about those perfectly fried potato pillows of love. The bacon wrapped dates...mmmhmmm.

This place is a true gem for thoughtfully presented comfort food.
