One word: DESSERT. Yes, the chocolate pistachio dome is aamm-azing. Seriously, one of the best desserts i've ever had. And it's $10 to boot. Sign me up!
I've only had the full dinner once, but I can highly recommend coming here for a nice, slow pace evening of dessert and drinks.

Dirk's Fish & Gourmet Shop
Category: Seafood Markets
Neighborhood: DePaul
We went in, not knowing what to expect for a "fish shop" and this place really was awe shocking, in a good way! Dirk was there himself to offer knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient service. Lots of customers were coming in and out as he showed us around the cases and provided free samples, but he has a way of making you feel like you're the first priority.
The store has easy, convenient lot parking and from what I was able to see...VERY clean, not fishy at all.
Since there were SO many goodies to choose from, we left with a feast of large scallops (sushi grade!), cooked shrimp, cocktail sauce, and mussles...all for the grand price of $30! SERIOUSLY?!?! Wow!
All of the food tasted very fresh and we have vowed to make this a part of our weekend regimen!

To top it off, the owner mentioned that if you have a chip within 3 days of your manicure to come back in for a free polish change! Bonus!

Bought the Groupon for $100 worth of tinting and waxing services last week.
Went in ASAP and found out what everyone else is saying...cute, super friendly, and helpful owner makes you feel like a valued customer!
Some of the services I wouldn't recommend, like the eyelash tinting (IT BURNS!!!!!!!!) but when I expressed dissatisfaction at the cash register, she happily waived the cost. Regardless, I guess it's win-win for her because I spent $90 and intend on going back.
Parking is easy, prices are reasonable, and they're BYOB!

Chicago Apartment Finders
Categories: Apartments, Real Estate Services
Neighborhood: Lakeview
We decided on our last search for a new home, that instead of using an agent we'd give a stab at finding an apartment on our own. We were doing pretty well, until we found our DREAM apartment which was listed by Chicago Apartment Finders as well as managed by their Rentals Division. (So, they are the agent as well as managers in the deal.)
Once we decided this was OUR place, we put down the first month's rent and application fees. It took days longer to approve us than they said. WHY? Because we had to call them and remind them to do all the necessary things to get us approved. The real estate agent said he'd been calling our old apartment nonstop to verify we lived there. Come to find out, no one from our apartment had any record they'd ever called.
Once approved, we were surprised with not one...not two....but THREE fees that were sprung on us, totaling $900. What were these fees for you ask? One was a "move in fee" for $300, a condo association fee for $300, and a "move out fee" for $300. We tried to argue this, but they insisted that they were mandatory, of course. Needless to say, we didn't let this deter us from finding our "Dream" place.
On move in day, I called their office to confirm the place and time I was picking up the keys. No one returned my call. So, I showed up as we had previous made arrangements for. To my surprise, no one in our building even KNEW we were moving in. They had no keys.
After several furious calls back and forth, I was told that someone was bringing over keys for us. Flash to later that evening, the keys show up...but they only gave us 1 working key for two tenants in the unit and no keys for the exterior building. Which is great...if you DON'T ever need to leave the interior of your apartment. This takes several days to finally iron out.
Flash even MORE forward, to us finding numerous things wrong with a BRAND NEW apartment. No toilet paper holders in the bathroom, lights that don't work, doors that don't lock all the way, leaks in the ceiling...and three weeks after BEGGING for things to be fixed, we are at the same place. Getting the run around.
Long story short, don't do it.

And boy...am I glad we did! Two endless cups of coffee later, the tofu scramble, and the short rib eggs benedict....we were happier than clams!
The price...$30! WOW! How reasonable!
My only complaint: tons and tons of children...LOTS of them started showing up at about 11:00 AM. Running all over, screaming, sitting up shop with their puzzles and books. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against kids; but what are EARTH are they eating here?? A mini short rib benedict?? The "Happy Face Pancakes" at IHOP could be a much more appropriate choice.
Come on...parents, just a tip: if you completely change the atmosphere of a restaurant just by walking in, then there is something wrong.

In Chicago, it's a very rare experience when you hit the lottery of restaurants. Call it the perfect storm, if you will. The perfect storm includes amazing service, fantastic food, and a wonderful ambiance. Sola has all of the above, and then some.
We purchased a http://restaurant... coupon for a $25 gift certificate, which was good only Monday-Wednesday, and visited late on a Tuesday night. For our first visit, this was perfect because the place was slow which lend itself to having us feel very pampered by the host and server.
Even though they have a very reasonably priced 3 course pre-fxe option for $30, we decided to splurge on sides and a dessert while sharing an entree. And I must suggest...this is REALLY the way to go!
Let me first say, you get a tasty bread basket to start with. All the of breads were very fresh and yummy. I could have stuffed myself full of the beer bread and pretzel buns and have been satisfied! For our meal, we started off with an appetizer, fresh goat cheese salad for me and red lentil soup for the bf. Both tasted very fresh and soup had a distinct "earthy" flavor that I didn't expect. Did not taste like it came straight out of a can!
For the shared entree, we had the sturgeon which was served on top of a pumpkin polenta with Vietnamese caramel and crumbled bacon. Cooked perfectly and they even split it up in the kitchen for us!
Now here's where the rubber meets the road...the sides!!! *insert drum roll* We ordered the truffle parmesan fries and mac and cheese! WOWOWOWOWOW!!! There is nothing I can write in this review that will do justice to those 2 items. They were both a total knock out of the park!
Last, we finished with a super tasty seasonal squash bread pudding. At this point in the meal i'm so oblivious to the amazing flavors...that unfortunately I cannot remember every waking detail of this dessert, but I can assure you it was phenomenal!
To summarize, this place is awesome. DO IT.
What we intended to be a quick "dessert run" turned into an hour long $50 trip where we left with 5 bags of treats!
They have a huge selection of fresh fish, sushi, side salads, and even baked goods!

The service was friendly, quick, and attentive. The food, although portions were small, was hot and tasty!
We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, Stuffed Garlic Nan, along with a soup starter and dessert. The chicken was all white meat, juicy and flavorful. Garlic nan filled with garlic, as described and almost melted in your mouth! If you still have room, order the cooked carrot dessert. A perfect way to end the evening!

Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab
Categories: Seafood, Steakhouses

The steaks are always cooked to perfection, the crab (and mustard...mmmm) is one of the most amazing foods I've ever experienced, and the service is spot on.
Make your reservations in advance, because of course this isn't a last minute place!
