LYFE Kitchen

The first time I was disappointed, the second time, even more so.

Why? Because LYFE, as a supposed prototype of healthy fast food restaurants, tells me that healthy eating means spending more and feeling hungry.

The fish tacos were mediocre. The fish (barramundi) dish was a boiled fish in a broth that seemed like it came out of can. Boring. The flatbread came out tasting artificial.

For a better AND healthy meal, try Sprout around the block, and skip LYFE.

Great spot, great fish.

My arctic char with a mushroom vinaigrette was delicious and filling, as was my friend's catfish which I got the chance to taste. I love the sides as well, including the sauteed green beans and risotto-like rice. The appetizers were pleasing, especially the sea scallop with a potato pancake. Only minus is that I wish the dishes had a tad bit less grease.

The fish and underwater photographs in the restaurant were beautiful, and the ambiance was nice.

Would definitely come back when I'm in the area.

No trouble here. Sam the guy who runs the place is quite nice, and I got everything done in about 20 minutes. About $50 total using their coupon. Make sure to call ahead for a reservation to avoid waiting.

Good ambiance and good, quality food, but expect to pay a lot for it, even in Palo Alto. A $55 lunch for two is common, if not a bit less than what you should expect to pay for lunch here (and we didn't get wine or beer!).

I appreciate that they use produce from the Sunday Cal Ave farmer's market, but I suspect that's more marketing than actual implementation. How do they expect that one day's worth of fresh food to last through the week?

Service not as great as the past reviews have stated, also.

Big minus is the price tag.... even for a Whole Foods shopper and local/organics-minded foodie.

Their hot chocolate is so so good. It's a thick, smooth, and creamy drinking chocolate. Almost a meal in itself. I have been looking for a drink like this in the Bay Area since my summers in NYC where I first encountered this type of a drink. I pretty much gave up a few years ago but am so happy to drop into Monique's to find that they have it!

Other than the drink, I had the pleasure of trying their single-origin truffles from Venezuela, Ecuador, etc. Delicious as well. I appreciate that they do single origin. You really can taste the difference among the regions.

But the hot chocolate... that's my highlight. I'm coming back next weekend!

This place is phenomenal. If you're in San Carlos and on Laurel St., resist the urge to try any of the places on the busier part of the strip - just come here. The Reuben is so good. Pastrami piled high and juicy - the best pastrami you'll ever have on the Peninsula.

The beers on tap are also something to rave about. Ask for a taste before you choose... there's a wide selection and the list changes regularly. The special Belgians are my favorites.

Only minus is the salads. I made a mistake my first time here to get a salad. Eat meat and drink beer here! They don't believe in vegetables.

I'm not sure how I missed this place after working in the area for almost three years. Erik's is definitely better than the usual sandwich places in downtown Mtn View I've been heading to. Their warm chicken pesto sandwich on a roll is so delicious. Perfect with a cup of tomato basil bisque. The other sandwiches are also pretty good.

The dining area is kind of interesting. Check out the ceiling and you'll know what I mean.

Only minus is the sprouts...

This place probably iconifies SF more than any other eating or libation institution does.

My boyfriend introduced me here late one evening a couple years ago and we've been coming back on an unhealthy basis. Among other yummies, I discovered how amazing the pork chop and drinks were. Asked the chef where they source their pork... from an Ohio ranch via Niman. Fatty, juicy, medium rare. This is as good as it gets. Come soon though, they've been hiking their pork chop $ steadily.

Also tried the Blue Bottle martini... really really good. Sad they took away the basil drink. I guess it was too girly.

I prefer sitting at the bar or big table more than the set seats. Just love the fact that I can step in here at midnight and get a legit meal.

Someone also suggested getting the Earl Gray liqueur. And I've been dying to try the little fried fish starter.

This review is for their salads.

My co-worker and I were looking for a good salad on Castro (much harder than you think ... there are no good salad joints). Ordered the large Chicken Caesar Salad that claims to serve 3-4 people. Tastes fine but it came out to serve 1 person and maybe a bird. LAME! And it was $14.50. I'm not kidding.

Amici's fail. I'm not coming back anytime soon, at least not for a salad.

This place is serious business. Good running gear and shoes you probably won't find elsewhere. I bought into the whole Vibram craze and bought a couple pairs here during the holiday season. Been as happy as a monkey in them.

The staff is very knowledgeable, though admittedly tired of selling Vibrams. Seems like everyone going in is looking for them and overlooking all the other nice running shoes.

Btw, the coffee bar is a total hidden jewel. Fantastic espresso drinks.
