It's a BBQ joint in a strip mall next to a Stepford-looking neighborhood of sparsely landscaped houses. I wasn't expecting much but, hey, when you're tired of the leaving-DC traffic you'll take anything that's not McDonald's.
I had a pulled pork sandwich with sides of (waffle) fries and mac-n-cheese. Great pulled pork that was a bit on the dry side but, hey, that means I get to put their sweet and spicy sauce on it! Mac-n-cheese had this amazing flavor I don't even know how to describe. Waffle fries were just sort of there which I can overlook because I *love* waffle fries. My husband had the ribs which he said he's willing to drive the 45 minutes from our place to go to on a weeknight (and he hates traffic).
While it's mostly a to go place, they've got enough tables to sit 30 or so. Not sure about lunchtime business but they were pretty empty (though many to go orders) last Friday evening.
Extensive menu featuring mezza as well as all tops of entrees. I went for chicken schwarma platter: schwarma, rice, garlic sauce, pitas, and some veggies I ignored (as per usual). It was all amazing. Something about the schwarma reminded me of Cuban food which is really odd as the two cuisines aren't all that similar. Anyhow, the garlic sauce was the highlight of my meal - perfect level of garlic zing made into what I guess is technically an aoli.
Service was eh but who cares? The food's amazing, prices on par for Old Town, and it's off the beaten path - only tables full of happy locals. Goes on the list for lunch places on the weekend or weeknight dinners, for sure!
Edited to add: We walked but I can tell you that parking may be a bit of a pain. Buy, hey, that's part of the charm of coming to Old Town, right?

Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars
Category: Wineries
They're known for Riesling, the grape someone at another winery suggested the entire region should be re-planting with. I must agree.
Dr. Frank makes some of the best Riesling I've tasted outside of France and Germany. They're sort of in the middle of nowhere but entirely worth the drive.

And how much do you think those 10 pounds (enough for 42 jars of jam) cost? $32!
And how much do you pay at the grocery store..$4 a half pint (if you're lucky!).
Well-maintain raspberry bushes, friendly staff, low prices, and beautiful drive from DC - already planning a return trip for red raspberries in a few weeks!

Expensive, small portions, rice pilaf not Mexican rice, crappy enchiladas.
Saving graces: great service, diverse menu, tasty salsa
I'd go back if you made me but not worth the special trip to Rosslyn.

Neighborhood: U Street Corridor
Tips:
- Find your seat upstairs then order if you plan to eat there
- Go early, they get crowded later a night
- Only tea, lemonade, and water so grab a soda in the neighborhood if you want one
- Cash only but CVS across the street does cash back on debit purchases

Pete's New Haven Style Apizza
Category: Pizza
Neighborhood: Columbia Heights
For about $25 for a whole pizza or $3 for a moderately-sized slice, you get pretty decent pizza. Unfortunately the by the slice had been sitting out for awhile and looked/tasted like it. Don't get me wrong, I look forward to coming back but I'm sure to think twice about not ordering a fresh whole pie.
Try the New Haven - white pizza with clams and olive oil. Yummy!
Tip: Happy hour (until 6:30) means half priced beer on tap. I got a glass of a Belgain whit beer for $3!

I went into Potomac Bead to find beads for a knitting project. All I knew was that I needed size 6 seed beads and that they needed to match the yarn was I using for the project. The staff was just wonderful to my clueless self, showing me to the seed beads at the back of the store and explaining what the numbers actually mean. While they had none in the size the pattern said I wanted, the staff helped explain that I may find a slightly larger size bead may still be fine and advised me to try stringing one on my yarn.
I would have purchased my beads right then in there but for one problem: I sort of forgot to bring the yarn I was going to use with me. Oops!
I will be back, however, when I will tackle my next challenge: just how many little tubes must one purchase to obtain 1,700 beads?

First impression: way too loud! Restaurant full of trendy types screaming at each other. Thankfully we were seated up stairs, away from many of the screamers.
Service: Nothing to write home about. Neutral over all.
Food: Inconsistent at best. Fish was under salted. My lemon cake tasted like Duncin Hines. Decent sides.
Ambiance: Again, very loud. Didn't really notice decor though I find the straight out of the 80s seating upstairs odd.
I may try it again though, really, just because it's restaurant week doesn't mean you don't have to make sure dishes are properly seasoned. I can ignore the loud setting and eh service but mediocre food, can't do it.
