Bon Chon Chicken
Categories: Korean, Chicken Wings
Absolutely disappointing. I've had Thai food in many different cities and countries. This place is one of the worst. It tasted like it was full of MSG. It was just salty with no flavor. The only reason I'm giving them two stars is because their service was good.
We went for brunch last weekend as soon as we got out of the amtrak station. It is conveniently located only two blocks from the station. Vegan Belgian waffel and 17th street tofu scramble were amazing! Some film crew was filming the restaurant for a famous place to eat in Richmond. I enjoyed their Japanese style paintings on the wall. Service was excellent. I'd highly recommend this place.

Kudos to Vancouver yelpers. I put this place on my must-visit list when we visited Vancouver last month. We had chilli plum noodle and Cambodian curry noodle. I can handle spicy food pretty well but "medium spicy" was hot enough for me. At first, it seemed like upgraded fast food joint but when we went there second time, I liked it even more. The portion is pretty big so my husband and I were able to share one dish.

On Labor day, we were strolling around the city and found out a lot of stores are closed. This place was the only place open until 8 pm that day. We had their Basil and Mojito gelato. It was so different. It's not my favorite gelato store but definitely their Basil and Mojito gelato were very authentic.

Ugly Mug Cafe

We were too full to try their sandwiches but their frozen yogurt was awesome. It was probably as good as Red Mango but so much cheaper. I loved how they decorated the tables with postcards from everywhere. The girls working there were very kind. Our feet were too tired from walking all over the city, so Ugly Mug Cafe provided us the perfect place to rest.
My husband had a consultation with Dr. Lee to extract his wisdom teeth. One tooth was already hurting and he went there because she could see him right away and they said they take our insurance. There's a reason why you can get an appointment with her right away.
It turns out they DON'T take our insurance and the doctor kept insisting that he needs to take all of them out right away, which was going to cost us almost $3K. We just left without making another appointment.
The receptionist called us later to tell us to come back. He kept saying my husband's teeth will be messed up if he doesn't get the surgery right away. How intimidating!
We went to Washington Oral Surgery and the doctor, who we LOVED, said he only needs to take out the one that's hurting now, which took only 5 minutes and cost us $60.

We hopped on the H Street shuttle from Chinatown station and got off about a block from the pub. A lot of people were having fun and I loved its dingy, old decor. Service was good and mussels were perfectly cooked. We got most of the sauces for fries.
If you like mussels and beer, this is definitely a place to check out.

The Gift Shop in The Herb Cottage
Category: Flowers & Gifts
This little gift shop gave me so many unique gift ideas. My mother-in-law got a tea set and I got two tiny Dolfin chocolate made in Belgium for 30¢ each. One was dark chocolate and the other one was Earl Grey. They were DELICIOUS. I saw some cute grocery shopping bags and they had nice lotions that smelled so good. I almost bought a green tea chapstick too.
My co-worker raved about this place for a long time. We decided to check it out about two weeks ago during DC's restaurant week. We got mixed grill with chicken kabob and salmon with their delicious tabouleh salad. Their chicken kabob was one of the best we've ever had. It was so tender and juicy inside with perfect grill flavor. Salmon came with mashed potatoes and it tasted heavenly. We weren't crazy about their dessert, which is probably why I can't remember the names.

The very first time we encountered Bon Chon was in New York. It was so good, words can't describe it! It brought me back to the days in Korea eating good fried chicken and wings.
When my husband and I found out that they had Bon Chon in VA, we were so happy! I took some of my friends there and they all loved it.
Last time we went there, the lady told us it would take about half an hour but she brought it out in 10 minutes. That was unexpected. Yes, their service sucks and you can smoke inside. Disgusting!
However, I can't resist the yummy, crispy, spicy chicken and wings. It's one of the places where you go for the food, not the service or ambiance. I just wish they delivered here like they do in NYC.
