Fogo de Chao
Categories: Steakhouses, Brazilian
The salad bar was pretty good, but overall the meats were just... meh.
For a near $60 dinner, I would consider many more options before I return to Fogo de Chao or any Brazilian Steakhouse for that matter.
The ambiance left much to be desired as well. I saw a lot of silver-haired folks along with annoying children.
I paid with my credit card but never got an itemized receipt.
There were two guys behind the counter. One was playing XBOX 360 while the other was using a notebook computer. Is this a place of business or someone's living room? I wasn't quite sure.
The silverware was dirty. I had to use a napkin to rub the crusty dried food particulate off my fork. The carnitas huarache I ordered was just ok. My girlfriend ordered a carne asada burrito plate. It came out with just a burrito. "Execuse me, didn't we order a plate, where are the rice and beans?" He replies, "they're inside the burrito." When my girlfriend opened up her burrito, there were no rice nor beans to be found. The carne asada inside looked like stale meat that had been fried again. It was dry and chewy and unpalatable.
The service was horrible. We had to ask multiple times for drink items that we ordered. The waitress was so inept, she needed another person to tell her what which maki was which.
One of the items we ordered was the Philly roll (not my idea). The salmon tasted fishy. Not a good sign.
If you can't tell the difference between good and bad sushi, then this place will be fine for you. For the rest of us... go elsewhere.
The beef and the pork they used in our dishes were not the best quality. Steph's beef was a bit on the dry side. My pork wasn't as tender as the description in the menu said it would be.
The food wasn't that bad. The price was a bit on the high side. The quality of the meat was so so. The flavors were good though. I had a Thai beer and would definitely order that again.

Taka-O-Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar

My girlfriend ordered sesame chicken. I know that is not really an authentic Japanese dish, but come on, I expect it to at least be edible. It was dry and tasteless and there really wasn't much chicken, just a lot of breading.
I ordered a whole slew of sushi. The quality was just so so. I would give the sushi a 4/10.
What really blew my gasket was seeing Chinese art work on the walls and being served fortune cookies at the conclusion of our meal. At least get your freak'n Asian countries straight!

Musha Restaurant
Categories: Japanese, Asian Fusion
Neighborhood: Santa Monica
We had the:
risotto
chicken leg
tongue
tuna croquettes
musha fried chicken
creme brulee
it was all great. the risotto was especially good because they serve it up table-side in a big cheese bowl. the service is great. when we put our name down (the wait was 1 hour), the host even offered to call us back if we left a cell phone number!
they don't serve hard liquor here, so be sure to stop by Renee's Courtyard Cafe next door afterwards.

Golden Dragon Chinese Food
Category: Chinese
i ordered the chicken chow fun and my girlfriend ordered her favorite orange chicken. i deemed the chow fun authentic. it was nice and oily and had the same flavor as what i would get from sam woo (not that sam woo is the benchmark for chinese food authenticity, but it is what i'm using in this review). the orange chicken wasn't too bad. it actually had real oranges in it.
at the very least, go dine in here and marvel at the dollar tree they have next to the cash register. i had an itch to snatch a bill when no one was looking.
i can't give it more than 3 stars because of the items being a tad over-priced for what it is. chinese fast food should be cheap and good. at least they meet one of the criteria.
the ribs were really fatty and faily low quality. the noodles were tastey but there wasn't much in there except noodles. the little side dishes were ok; nothing spectacular.
i went with my girlfriend and we both ordered from the lunch section. we even pointed with our fingers which items we wanted from the lunch section. hmm... so one would think they would be ordering lunch with the lunch prices listed. this was not the case. when we got the bill, each of our items were at least 2-5 bucks more expensive than the lunch price. i asked the owner what was going on. she said "no lunch special, today saturday."
so the nimcumpoop of a waitress that took our order should have clarified that we would be ordering the items at full price. i don't remember reading any caveat to the lunch special that said only applicable on weekdays during x-y hours. i'm usually pretty observant like that.
so basically the wait staff is slow and pretty unhelpful. the food is kinda average yet highly over priced. my meal was $16.99. wtf! for lunch?
Date

At least they let me sit with my dog.
