I've taken a lot of different things to Cornelio's - suits, dress pants, jeans - to be altered and he always does a great job. He's not one of those "dry cleaner tailors" that won't do some things or can't handle certain alterations. Everything turned out really professional - from shoulders being taken in on a suit to original hem on a pair of jeans.
Kind of on the pricey side, but worth it. Also, on my first visit he gave me $25 off.

You know what two things I love to get whenever I go to a Greek restaurant? Saganaki and lemon rice soup. The first thing I noticed about the menu is that there wasn't any saganaki. The waitress explained this was because their kitchen wasn't big enough (huh?). Then I saw they had a soup of the day. Luckily the day I was there it was lemon rice (whew!).
With all that behind us, my brother and I each got some soup (wonderful), split some feta (I'll take whatever kind of cheese I can get) and shared some chicken kabobs with Greek fries (perfect seasoning).
Everything was great and at the end the waitress even brought over a piece of baklava on the house.
If only they'd had saganaki...

My favorite part about this odd little coffee shop: The music. Every time I go in they have this great old jazz station on (satellite radio too, so there's no commercials). Or they're playing old Frank or Dean songs. It always puts me in a fun, bouncy mood.
Otherwise the place is pretty average. Okay coffee and tea. Though they do have cup of cheese, crackers and grapes you can buy for a snack, and I love me any place that has cheese.
They do loose points for taking a name that reminds me of the coffee shop on Friends. Meh.

Clybar is 3 doors down from my apartment which automatically makes it great it my book.
But why would you, a person who most likely doesn't live 3 doors down from the Clybar, go there?
The food is bar food, but it's GOOD bar food (tasty burgers, sweet teriyaki wings), and they're flush with drink specials.
They also show football on Sundays and are always more than happy to put your game of choice on one of their many (many) flat screens. What's even better is that it's never packed wall to wall with douchey college boys. I can't tell you how nice that is.
Did I mention it's so close to me? Man, that's awesome.

Savor the flavor sure has some tasty teas. They've also got some solid free wi-fi. And when the owner's little pug walks freely around the shop it's pretty darn cute.
But they have a handful of wrought iron patio chairs which are uncomfortable if you're working on a laptop. And if you go anytime before 5 or on a weekend expect to see at least one mom with a stroller.
The tie breaker? The wi-fi password is usually Smile. And when you hear that you can't help but.

The Fixx and I go way back.
It began about two and a half years ago when I started on online magazine with a friend. We needed a place to caffeinate late into the night and when it first opened The Fixx was an 'Open 24' Hours joint on the weekends. The free wi-fi, abundance of plugs and good tea made it a great spot.
Then when I started my own web design business this place became my office away from home. Comfy chairs and sofas when I wanted to read, big or small tables when it was work time, and food when I got hungry. Why leave?
I've moved out of the neighborhood now but I still try and get up there once or twice a week to get some work done. I could never completely desert The Fixx.
Word to the wise: Avoid on Saturday and Sunday late morning/afternoon because of the college kids that jam up the place and slow down the internet. Blerg.

The Counter

Oprah called the burgers at The Counter "Best Burger" and someone in GQ said "it's one of the burgers you have to eat before you die." All I can think is that The Counter has hired an AMAZING PR firm.
Not that the burgers there are bad, but they're definitely not anything to write home about - especially considering how expensive as they are. Sure, you can get just about anything on your burger (Fried egg? Scallions? Peanut sauce?), but I can think of a few classic, simple places that serve up a better burger for burger sake.
(note: Does anyone else think it's odd that they're address is 666 W Diversey?)

Free wi-fi (and plenty of plugs), great tea and coffee, super cheap and tasty eats, and a charming owner make Nada one of my favorite coffee shops in the city.
It's never busy (which I'm always afraid recommending will make it) and the classical and mellow music they always play makes it easy to concentrate and get work done or read.

The two odd things were the music and our waiter. "The Boss" must have been away that night because it seemed like the staff was playing whatever they wanted (a punk cover of Britney Spears' Hit Me Baby One More Time? In a French restaurant? Really?). The waiter kept coming over and acting awkward, at one point coming over in the middle of our dinner to ask if we had any interest in a souffle. I would have understood if it was 11 at night and they were wrapping up the dessert station and needed to get orders it, but it was 6 at night. Odd waiter.
But back to my main point: The food. Great, great, great. I plan to go back next month for restaurant week, without a doubt.
