Nervous Dog Coffee Bar and Roaster

Category: Coffee & Tea

5.0 star rating
Update - 5/14/2012 2 photos 20 Check-ins Here
There's nothing to get nervous about at this place.

Since my previous review of this place, Ive been here more times than the number of naughty words a NASCAR driver uses on their team communication radio during a race (and Ive listened to enough NASCAR team scanners over the years to know this fact LMAO!). Translation- that's a large number!

The place hasn't changed on the inside and outside. On the outside, the drive thru is still there servicing customers who don't want to get off their butts. On the inside, is a decor of dark, warm colors and lots of seats to plop your butt down, take a load off and contribute to the delinquency of your caffeine addiction.

When you come here, I hope you get the Barista named Madeline. She rocks! She's friendly and treats the customers well. Her personality and professionalism comes thru her smile, the cool clothes she wears, and the fantastic, full of flavor and caffeine coffee and espresso drinks she makes.

For the hot drink, I recommend the 'Black Eye'- two shots espresso mixed in with brewed coffee. If its a bold and full of flavor, and a wake you up in a hurry, and no factory machine made crap drink you want, then THIS IS IT. Want a cold drink? Get the iced Americano. Madeline makes it the right way- full of espresso flavor AND espresso and not that watered down crap that's made for sissys. YUP!

When you pay for your drink, be sure to ask for a punch card to work your way to a free coffee. You'll also see the tip jar. Everyone remembers to tip their bartender, their server and their loudmouth, makes blind promises politician, yet no one remembers to tip their friggin Barista. As a former Barista myself, TIP THEM- they deserve it! HELLO!

The 330 (area code) has a lot of coffee competition. With Madeline behind the wheel, this place will win the race. You better damn well believe it. Check it out!

Newly opened place at a store that used to be, you guessed it, another coffeehouse.

The interior didn't change much, though they expanded the size of the common area. Plenty of tables and chairs. They kept the warm colors of various shades of brown. A very rustic yet contemporary look.

The guys who worked here were friendly, enthusiastic, cared about the place and their customers, and do a fantastic job making espresso based drinks. Ive had their iced latte, as well as their hot latte. The espresso is full of flavor and smells great. The hot latte had milk that was steamed to a near perfect temperature and thankfully not burnt. The iced latte was bold yet refreshing and not overwhelming, especially on a warm day.

Nervous Dog Cafe is certainly a catchy name, though there's nothing to be nervous about when coming here. I hope they stay around for a very long time. An excellent alternative to the coffee chain big boys and girls.

Last but not least, if you don't feel like getting your ass out of the car when you arrive, then take advantage of their drive thru. Great service, great coffee that's great on the go!

Discount Drug Mart

Category: Drugstores

4.0 star rating
5/14/2012 1 Check-in Here
Three days ago was my first visit to this Discount Drug Mart, much less any Discount Drug Mart. I had a couple of reasons to come here- (1) they have the Alan Cox Show stickers (for you Yelpers not in the Cleveland, Ohio area, Alan Cox Show is on WMMS FM radio in the afternoon and is friggin hilarious and good!) and (2) wanted to check out another so called drug store since certain other national drug store chains were boring the hell out of me.

First thing I saw here- the huge, clean parking lot with many parking spaces! Then you see the outside of the building. No thrills, but looks clean and well maintained enough to impress the crap out of HGTV's Michael Holmes.

Go inside and SWEET MOTHER OF OVERLOAD BATMAN you see so much stuff inside! My eyes widened in slight overwhelmness (is that a word?) and made me say "where do I begin?".

The indoor decor, especially the large font styles of the words on the walls, were friggin hilarious! Its a combination of fuddy duddy redneck, of what my grandpa's drug store would look like, and something out of an episode of 'The Brady Bunch Takes on Cleveland' (I made that up by the way).

As corny as the decor is, at least for my tastes, the overall store is very clean, organized, well cared for, maintained, and easy to see and read signs that tell you whats what in each aisle. Even the food, beer and wine section was clean and offered a lot of product and makes me want to buy something of a food and drink thing. Matter of fact, I brought a box of 100 Popsicles! Normally the food and drink section of national chain drug stores scare me more than Democrats and Republicans combined 500,000 times over, as well as Greg Biffle's 16 car tires at Darlington Raceway from that race three nights ago, but this place impressed me that much that I trusted them to buy lots of Popsicles! Oh yeah!

Matter of fact, this place is like a combination of Marcs, Walgreens, Rite Aid, AM/PM mini mart, and other mom and pop like convenience stores in bullwhack city, USA. Its classic meets modern. Wait, what about the people who work here? Well what I saw and experienced, many of the employees here worked their asses off and treated the customers very well. The dude at the cashier who took my money for the 100 Popsicles was friendly, energetic, and went out his way to get me Alan Cox Show stickers. Usually my not to hot looks get the minimal and sometimes crappy treatment at places like this, but not today.

Treat me right and like a Facebook status I'll like. Discount Drug Mart did not fart, rather they won my heart, You should come here too! Check it out!

Allen's Card & Gift Shop

This is a Hallmark store. Allen's Hallmark. Of course, Allen was no where to be found, or at least we didn't see him.

This place is your usual Hallmark store with the usual cards, knicknacks, candles, stuffed animals at a price that rivals the current fuel prices. Its clean, organized, and seems not to run out of anything. They had Mothers Day cards we liked and ended up buying them. Matter of fact, this place had a good number of Mothers Day cards and took a while to decide which ones to buy. I like that kind of available selection!

The staff of older females were nice, pleasant, hardworking, though a bit slow and lacking personality. Regardless, they provided excellent customer service and didn't waste time at the cash registers.

The outside of the store isn't much to talk about. This store is located in a dullard of a strip mall, which is ready for an update. Regardless, the outside part of the store was clean and didn't look bad bad bad. There's plenty of parking space in the parking lot.

Overall, a good Hallmark store, and should be be in the area and need to buy cards then we'll come back to this place! Check it out!

Giant Eagle

4.0 star rating

This Giant Eagle store is off to a very good start. The place is HUGE, and includes the usual edible and non edible grocery items, good produce department, good beer and wine selection, state liquor agency (that's Ohio's way of saying liquor store for you out of state folks LMAO), dry cleaners, daycare center, bank, florist, pharmacy...you get the picture. In many ways this place looks like most other Giant Eagle stores, which is fine.

The look and feel of the place isn't the most exciting but it does have a modern, rich, upscale yet not snotty decor. In other words, its not overwhelming and not too boring. The black ceiling looked awesome and takes away from that dingy, impersonal, cold warehouse look and feel.

One thing that got my attention was the section of the store where you can buy hot and cold meals! They have sushi, salads, soup, subs, bakery, which is all fine and dandy and expected of a place like this. But let me tell you something- they have a pizza stand! Read my words- PIZZA STAND. I got to talk with a girl that works at the pizza stand- she was friendly and energetic and appeared to give a rat's butt about her job, told me they make pizza fresh and to order. Best of all, they bake their pizzas in a fire brick oven! Fantastic! Of course I have yet to eat one of these pizzas, but I will. That pizza stand looked and smelled great. This is the only grocery store I know of in America that has a pizza stand that makes pizza to order and bakes it in a fire brick oven. That is butt kicking awesome!

Outside the store, they have lots of parking spaces in a parking lot that's clean and well lit at night. To get into the parking lot, you will have to go North on Treeworth Boulevard from Royalton Road to get to the driveway that goes up a hill, or make a right turn from Westbound Royalton Road.

The people who work here were friendly and eager to help, especially the man who worked at the beer and wine section, and the young man who was the cashier. Yes, there were some hiccups and issues, but those got resolved fast. It may take the employees a while to smoothe things out, but they know what the issues are and work quickly to fix them. They don't waste anyone's time. The people who work here are going to make this a great place to shop, eat, drink, hang out, sight see, do whatever. These are like the politicians who look out for American's piggy banks, liberties, defense and Constitution, and not those knuckleheads some of you vote for based on cultural, religious and social agendas who cant balance the budget and want to make America into a Socialist Theocracy.

The only downside? You know where I'm going with this one. The customers. Yeah, many of them have ooooohed and aaaaaaaaahed over this brand new place, so they're looking up, down, left and right and not paying attention. All I can suggest is don't let your guard down and don't let these bozos ruin your visit.

Y'all can laugh at me all you want and call my reviews silly from behind your computer and  smart phones. This is a really cool place that offers a lot to the area in many ways. Check it out!

Coffee Club

Update - 4/23/2012 8 Check-ins Here
Came here two weekends ago after a long hiatus. The place hasn't changed at all and is kept clean and maintained. The people who work here are some of the nicest people Ive come across, though as hard as they work, sometimes their service is challenged to the point of wanting to walk out the door frustration. The biggest downer is their espresso. I brought an iced latte and hoped this would've been a big improvement from the previous visit. Not at all. There's something about their espresso that gives it a musty, stale smell and taste. Either their espresso beans are old or have been exposed to air and light way too long, It could also be the espresso is being extracted too fast and is too watery, or there's something about the water they're using. It could also be a combination of the four 'eithers' above. Whatever is screwing up their espresso, it hasn't been corrected.

Their brewed coffee is in the okay to good range, though not as bold as Id like it to be. Still, its not bad. They have bagels and cream cheese and do a good job with those- the bagels are toasted to near perfection! Brewed regular coffee and a toasted bagel topped with cream cheese combo is your best bet here.

As a supporter of local businesses and one who prefers independent coffeehouses, this is one place Id like to see around for a long, long time. I hope they fix whatever is screwing up their espresso soon.

When you leave the city of Broadview Heights, you'll see signs that say "Believe In Broadview Heights".

I would love to see a sign that says "Believe In the Coffee Club".

As a local establishment and a small business, Coffee Club is great for the community and ideal for many purposes other than getting your share of the legal drug caffeine. The physical interior hasn't changed much, which is a good thing. Plenty of seating within a good amount of space are surrounded by eye pleasing interior design which is warm and relaxing and very Seattle or San Francisco coffeehouse like. Its a place where people can get together for dates, to bullshit, to have meetings, to work, to play chess and so on.

The people who work here are awesome. The owner, Tim, is a great guy who greats all customers with a smile and enthusiasm. He also knows what the regular customers want. There's a young guy and a young girl who work here in the mornings, and are also good with the customers.

The only items Ive had here were drip coffee and lattes.

Their "coffees of the day" are on the okay to good side. Coffee Club's brewed, or drip, coffee are usually light roasts, similar to what you'll find in the grocery store coffee aisle or gas station. If you prefer this kind of coffee, or as some would call it "American Coffee", then this place is for you. Don't get me wrong- I like it, but I prefer coffee bean roasts that are more bold, as well as dark roasts.

They also have flavored coffee of the day, and some of the flavors are unique and interesting. I don't care for flavored coffee, but if it sounds good then I'll try it. Their pumpkin spice flavor was a hit with me during the fall season.

The biggest groaner about this place would be the espresso drinks. I recently ordered a wet cappuccino- a drink that's half espresso and steam milk, and half foam. The foam was very stiff and very smooth. The milk was steamed to the right temperature. The espresso, on the other hand, not good. As the barista prepared my drink, I watched the espresso being extracted from the espresso machine into the shot glass. It gushed out way too fast, and produced a creama more wimpy than the New Orleans Saints defense from last night's game against the Jets. It was a sight more horrible than watching America elect officials more interested in defending religion and political correctness than defending our liberties and freedoms.

The result? The wet cappuccino tasted more like a "cafe au lait" than like an actual espresso drink. Either the espresso beans weren't ground the correct way or the barista didn't tamp the ground espresso hard enough in the filter basket. Yeah this would've been a good cafe au lait but I wanted something more bold than NASCAR racing and cage fighting.

I really really really really REALLY want to see this place grow and thrive and stay in the area for a long long LONG time. They need to step it up with the espresso drinks, and it wouldn't hurt to have the option of a bold, or even dark roast, coffee.

Maybe send in a Jillian Michaels version of a barista?

Came here today to buy a latte. Hate to say it but the lattes haven't improved. The milk was still steamed waaaaaaaaaaay too hot, and the coffee had a very stale, musty taste AND smell. I suspect the espresso beans were not fresh or were not dark roast.

I suppose the espresso based drinks would taste better if they were flavored. This may be true for some people, but not for me. I don't care for flavored coffee, and rarely drink the stuff. If the espresso beans were fresh, ground the proper way, and tampered and brewed the proper way, then the espresso based drink would taste good!

Their brewed coffees are okay, though nothing to write home about or TWEET about on Twitter. In fact, many times their "House Blend" coffee tasted more bland than two semesters of required for college graduation Freshman English classes (I'm a Math person, just so you understand my point). They seem to push the flavored coffees a lot. Coffee doesn't have to be flavored to taste and smell good, except maybe if you were trying to get a coffee virgin hooked on the stuff.

I cant comment on the food items because I never had those.

The guy who works there is nice but I have to wonder if he really likes Broadview with those low quality espresso beans he's used.

Come here for the drip coffee and atmosphere- they are good! They have a tasty 'Autumn Harvest' coffee, flavored with pumpkin and cinnamon, and I don't care for flavored coffees. Give it a try!

On the other hand, the espresso-based drinks are as horrible as the current stock market. At least the guy who works there in the mornings and makes those drinks. The milk is so hot that it makes Death Valley in the Summertime feel like the North Pole in the Winter time. Seriously. Also, I don't know if its the water, or how they store the espresso beans, but the espresso-based drinks still have an odd taste which I can't put my finger on.

They're getting better BUT need more practice on the steamed milk.

This place has a lot of potential, especially with it being in a good location, lots of table seating indoors and outdoors, an extensive bakery item menu and coffee and tea menu, and the traditional independent coffee house atmosphere and smell. But this place had better get its act together with the coffee, especially the espresso based drinks. I ordered lattes on two different days-- the milk was steamed waaaaaaaaaaaay too hot which nearly burned the milk and killed the espresso taste. They also need to get fresh condiments to top off drinks with foamed milk- the powdered chocolate literally had NO TASTE.

The people who work there, or at least the ones Ive done business with, are friendly and eager to please. But if they're going to be serving drinks at prices slightly higher than Starbucks, then they better make sure the price is worth the quality. At this time, they need a little more practice with their barista skills.

Sweet. Very sweet. Literally!

At the moment, Cleveland cannot boast about its pro sports team nor its county politics, but it can boast about having the largest candy store in America. From the outside, this place is huge, and the big sign on the side of the building makes this place easy to find from Brookpark Road. The parking lot is clean, spacious, and has a lot of parking spaces to take care of the many customers who come here.

Go inside and WOW TO THE WOW POWER! You wont see so much candy and sweets inside one place. Aisle after aisle of all kinds of candy and sweets, ranging from the old time classics, to the modern more known, to the brands and kinds we've never heard of, and to what seems like upscale chocolates and other candies that an employee would have to place in a box one at a time.

There's a lot of candy sold in bulk, including dozens of Jelly Belly flavors, gum balls, jawbreakers, and many different colors of M+M like chocolate candies.

Also on sale are various fun shaped containers and small toys full of candy, as well as many different kinds of dispensers. They have many different Pez dispensers and candy! They have chocolate to melt and molds that allows you to make your own chocolate candy in various shapes.

Hanging from the ceiling are various store owned decorations for the many candies and sweets they sell, as well as candy filled pinatas of various shapes and sizes! LOTS of hanging pinatas! So THIS is where you buy those things! Amazing!

We came here today and brought a box of Chick-O-Stick (FINALLY found these candies!!), two pounds of Jelly Belly in bulk, and 12 boxes of Mike And Ike candy inside a larger box. Cost was $33.00 US and well worth it.

There are eight check out lines and the cashiers were friendly and focused on their jobs. They were wonderful!

As great as this place is, there are a few nays.

As much as this place tries to look like the candy rack at the grocery store check out, this is more of a candy warehouse. You'll see A LOT of bigger boxes on the shelves and piled on top of each other. Even though there is a lot of eye pleasing color, fun designs, and the pinatas and other decor hanging from the ceiling, it doesn't cover up the cold, impersonal, prison like warehouse decor. Think of this place as Home Depot, only with several tons of candy.

Was disappointed to see some of the bulk candy selections that had the lids left open! Customers may have done this, but the staff had yet to respond. And who knows how long all that bulk candy was exposed to the elements.

The prices of many candy items seemed higher than expected. $9.99 for the party size M+M's bag, while at another big national chain store it was $8.99. 20 cents for one small York Peppermint Patty! My recommendation is to find candy that you like A LOT and buy it in bulk or by the large box to save some money. That's why we brought a carton of 12 boxes of Mike And Ike candy.

Last but not least, the customers. Most of them seemed to have their heads up their butts when walking among the candy. Granted we don't blame them since they're looking around in awe and deciding what to buy, though in our opinion they should be mindful of where they're walking, not hog up aisle space, not act as if they own the place, and not act as if you're not there.

Overall, this is an awesome place and we'll be back. Where else can you buy boxes of Angry Birds jelly candy? Check it out!

Yesterday was my first time at this store was a good impression. Its big, clean, spacious, organized, and has lots and lots of household items you need, or want. The people who worked here were friendly, helpful, and not at all pushy. All we needed to buy were light bulbs. The female employee gave us simple directions to the aisle where the light bulbs were located. Took us less than a minute to get there. Lots of different light bulbs on the display shelves, and lots of them to sell. They had what we needed. Within 15 minutes we were in, found and paid for what we needed, and then out. It wasn't much of a visit but it was good enough to remember, and good enough to remember this place next time we need to buy certain things. Check it out!

This Starbucks is located in the Tiffin River Travel Plaza, on the Eastbound lane of the Ohio Turnpike at milepost 20.8, located in Williams County. The place is small, clean, and has the usual warm colors found in most Starbucks. The barista was Janaye, who has awesome black hair, was friendly, smiled, and made a refreshing, bold tasting grande sized iced latte. The only bummer about this whole experience was the price. $4.10 for the grande iced latte. Then again, were talking about a store along the Ohio Turnpike. At least I got a high quality product made by a high quality barista, but the prices need not compete with the current fuel prices. It is however worth to check out.

This is the Gloria Jeans Coffee inside the Indiana Toll Road travel plaza at mile marker 126 of the Eastbound lane. Not a bad place. The girl who worked there was pleasant, though she seemed to have a bland personality. Nevertheless she made a fantastic hot latte, which had good espresso flavor and the milk steamed almost perfect. $3.85 for a 16 ounce latte is a bit pricey, but then again that's what you expect from a toll road travel plaza.

The dining area is huge and also used by the other eating places at this travel plaza- Hardees, Red Burrito, and other places I don't remember. I didn't feel like hanging around, so I took my latte to go on the road. Was a much needed boost to keep me alert, energized and interested. Not a great place, not a terrible place, but a place that's good enough for a coffee option while driving East on Interstate 80/90 in Indiana.

The map is all wrong. This place is located on County Highway N and Interstate 90/39, not Interstate 94. This place is about 7 miles South of Madison, Wisconsin.

Nevertheless, this place was open at 2:00am local time. I needed gas and needed it at a good price. Not only did this place have good gas prices, it was also extremely bright, well lit, clean, organized, and the fuel pump and everything outside were easy to read. There were A LOT of fuel pumps- at least 16 of them- and A LOT of space surrounding the fuel pumps and outdoor area. Makes it easy for a lot of vehicles to move and maneuver around.

Sure, its not a BP, not a Shell, not a Sunoco. It's a place that provides what travelers need. Easy to get in, easy to get what you need, and easy to get out. I will never forget this place.
