my boyfriend and his family are fitchburg natives and they all swear by it..so of course i was excited to try this local legend..i think it tastes like cheap spagetti - ohs sauce!!! i grew up in an italian american family and this is just not the way i like my pizza...i would seriously rather eat chain pizza and i hate chain pizza =(
pros: inexpensive, very friendly fast service
cons: taste.
Even after this I had to try again....second experience:
ordered steamed veggies and white rice, not wanting a replay of the last attempt at ordering a tofu entree laced with mystery meat and strange flavors.....
THIS ALSO TASTED LIKE ANIMAL FAT.
how can they screw this up? how can they be so completely inconsiderate of dietary needs when their freaking menu states clearly that they will accomidate anything! i just don't get it. maybe i wasn't drunk enough to eat their food......
the drinks are always strong and very fairly priced..
bartenders are quick and always friendly..
the shack out back is always fun hehe

On the Rise Baking
Categories: Bakeries, Desserts, Coffee & Tea
The desserts, speciality cakes and breakfast pastry are all baked in house by Chef Elizabeth Casey. On The Rise is a female owned business with friendly staff....very good Espresso bar and they brew Carpe Diem Coffee (Carpe Diem is a female owned independent roaster from Maine) Coffee is brewed in small 1/2 gallon portions so it is never watered down or bitter. Always fresh as opposed to other coffee shops that brew 3 gallons and just let it sit on the warmer getting stale all day. Prices are VERY reasonable, especially for coffee...a 16 ounce hott coffee is around $1.89....
they also offer a variety of Gluten Free breakfast pastries and desserts...the GF triple mousse cake is to die for...
some things to keep in mind:
*Parking on street as well as behind building between Charlotte Klein dance studio and On The Rise. just don't block the driveway!!!
*$10.00 debit/credit minimum...
*call ahead for cakes...they bake fresh to order as opposed to leaving whole cakes in the fridge or freezer for weeks the way that some of the other Worcester bakeries do. Don't be turned off by the small selection available daily. It is all fresh.
*They're now open late Fridays and Saturdays and offer a cute outdoor eating area...
*Driving by and unable to find the danmed place???
Look for the big chef statue that the regulars have named "Steffano"
On The Rise is a Worcester gem.

Bean Counter Coffee Bar the
Category: Coffee & Tea
it seems as if the young people who work there are fed up with their demanding boss. i've heard horror stories over the years of the owner taking tips from her baristas and last time i went in, i witnessed her yell at a very overworked barista who was trying to manage an understaffed front of the house. it was unbelievably unprofessional and i felt awful for the employee and completely turned off as a patron. bagels are huuge and always seem very fresh. they've got a good variety of traditional bagels (plain, poppy, sesame, everything), sweeter ones (french toast, super cinnamon, berry, cranberry orange), as well as interesting savory bagels (the cheese and tomato basil are both delicious). They have a variety of homemade cream cheeses, they offer soups and breakfast as well as lunch sandwiches.....I've tried their muffins and a few other baked goods, they're huge but relatively tasteless....I recommend the bagels over that stuff...
Their Drip Coffee is good, a few varieties of Green Mountain Coffee Co. blends....I deducted a few stars because they pre-pull espresso shots for "iced lattes" which are basically made with refrigerated espresso (got knows how stale) poured over ice arbitrarily (no measurement or anything) with milk..it's weird. also they don't use fresh beans for their espresso drinks, I noticed they use those "espresso pods" which just suck and never come out with a good flavor. I wouldn't be so put off by this but their prices are still as high as other shops who use decent barista techniques and don't cut corners with espresso drinks....
Service is friendly and usually on point although Saturday mornings they seem a little frazzled but it is understandable as it is their busiest time....
All in all I'd say the Daily Bagel is worth it for a solid cup of drip coffee and a really good bagel....and it's definitely better than Dunkin Donuts crap coffee and shit service.....Just don't expect to be wowed by much else, they are as the name states a bagel joint...
