I was hesitant to go here because I'm not big on "fancy comfort food", but if you are similar, give it a chance because they have plenty of other great options.
Now that I've been, Blue Plate remains one of my favorite places to take out-of-towners because of the food, ambiance (especially the outside seating), and proximity to my apartment.
What I love: the focaccia they bring, grilled squid, rabbit gnocchi, I know other people love the meatloaf.

Have you met the papusa fairy? Because I have and she exists at El Zocalo.
Papusas- think corn tortilla stuffed with delicious fillings such as cheese, beans, pork, cheese, chicken, some sort of edible flower, and cheese. Now I've noticed they also have zucchini, which I look forward to trying.
BUT the best part about papusas is the "best way to get cabbage back into your diet" curtido and salsa. I also like to purchase an avocado or two beforehand to cut up on top of the papusas. Also the fact that you can buy food for an army and it's never more than $20. We've made quite a tradition of grabbing to-go papusas con accoutrement from here post Iron Cupcake.
The plantains are excellent as well.

Delighted that this new bar rolled into my hood, with surprisingly little pomp & circumstance. I've been here several times and each time has been delightful, particularly the time for a post-hike chimay on a drizzly afternoon.
Not sure what bartenders the previous reviewers have encountered, but on each of my visits I've been welcomed with a great bartender, unique-yet-classic and well-made (not to mention strong) drinks, great lighting, and a place to sit. The doorman also doubles as a harmonica player at times!
One disclaimer: while great at other times, the "bitter cup" is not a good idea at the end of a big night...

From the cozy ambiance to the casual-yet-professional service I absolutely love honeycomb salon, especially my hairdresser Erin. She continually recreates my hair into something I am eager to write home about and is helpful at getting me to branch out, but simultaneously understanding of my comfort zone. I also really love the Kevin Murphy products sold here and knowledgeable staff that sells it!

Great family-run restaurant with authentic Vietnamese food.
Service was super friendly & helpful and our food was delicious- get the tumeric-coconut crepe with pork/shrimp/beansprouts. It's served with a lettuce-herb platter and fish sauce and is excellent.
I hear they're going to start serving local wines as well!

Firebrand Artisan Breads

Tried the whole wheat levain and whole wheat baguette, these breads are awesome, made in West Oakland. Surprisingly, the brand is only sold in Bi-Rite and Rainbow Grocery in SF. I was a little surprised to move to SF from the East Bay and discover my new-found favorite bread/bakery to be from Oakland!
I am always looking for a wheaty artisan bread and this bakery nails it!

I've only stopped in here a few times for a 99cent Strauss froyo cone- perfect treat for a sunny afternoon. It's a kind of funky place. Everytime I've been there it's the same froyo flavors- vanilla and blueberry-pomegranate, which makes for a nice swirl. The ice cream seems to have some interesting flavors as well, would be a good substitute when Bi-Rite line is too long.

Bar seating and tasty, locally-made treats coming soon. Prior to that, have a drink standing (as the Italians do) while chatting with the owner, who happens to have a very witty sense of humor.

I especially love sitting on the patio with a Egg Florentine- perfectly poached eggs.
Arriving around 9am for freshly baked bread (still warm) to make brunch at home is also wonderful.
