The Pita Pit

Categories: Restaurants, Food

4 star rating

I may be a little biased because I love pita. When I found out there was a Pita Pit in Reno, I was stoked! I had to go find it.

Overall, this is a really good place to eat if you're looking for something different. The pita only takes a few minutes to be prepared and it really fills you up. Think of it as a gigantic healthy middle eastern burrito.

The Pita Pit is pretty awesome but if you get a chance to visit an authentic middle eastern pita eatery, I would recommend you try it to see for yourself. If you've never had pita before, you'll love the Pita Pit but just keep in mind there are better pitas out there.

The Nail Hut & More

While visiting Reno, I had a lot of extra time to kill. Seizing this opportunity to relax, I thought I would pamper myself. I yelped nail salons and a whole list popped up. I had called the first few but they all closed early, didn't have time, were busy with other clients, or needed to schedule appointments ahead of time. Scrolling through the lists, I found this one with already one review. Hmmm, it seemed like a good idea to try the salon out. I called and a friendly lady answered the phone. It was getting late in the day and thought that they might be closing soon and was just about to give up on my luck. To my surprise, they were willing to accommodate me.

As far as customer service, it was one of the best I had experienced. I forget the name of the one who helped me (Sheri? Shirley?...Sorry!!!!) but she was very nice and helpful. She was very gentle with my nails and the manicure didn't hurt at all like some of the places I had been to.  She was a very pleasant person to talk to. Unlike other places I've been, she actually keeps her attention to you instead of constantly talking to other co-workers.

Overall, I had a good impression of the place. The people were extremely nice and very helpful. I had came in later in the day and was still accommodated. If you need a quick mani/pedi, this is a good place to go for walk-ins (and they are probably the only salon who closes later). The lady who helped me stayed later and was the last one out the door. If you get the chance to go, I highly recommend her =)

One of my friends recommended this place to me. He said it was the best burger ever. According to him, In-N-Out had the best burgers until he discovered this little place. Ok, I have been living in California for the past 10 years and there is no place that beats the In-N-Out burgers. Not that I eat much of it but everyone knows that nothing compares to the In-N-Out burgers. He was persistent, though, in telling me that it was waaaaaaay better than In-N-Out. I didn't believe him. I had to find out for myself.

The next day, we took a trip downtown Reno through some alleys and found, literally, a "hole-in-a-wall" diner. Ok, I have said this phrase before over eateries that were not well-known with really good food but this is a shining example of what a "hole-in-a-wall" food place is. We took the back way through the alley and found they had a little entrance. You could go through the front but you would have to get past the casino and bar.

Anywho, the food was good! I didn't have to wait long before they prepared the "Awful Awful" and a huge basket of fries. Honestly, I don't like burgers but I had to try this to see if my friend was right about it. Sure enough, he was. This is one of the best burgers I've had. You have to experience it for yourself. (Also, I heard this is one of the best hangover places to go to)

By the way, don't forget to bring some cash on you because they don't except cards.

If you're ever in Reno, definitely head over here or you'll miss out.

Walden's Coffeehouse

It was so good I came back the next day! And here I am writing another review! Although this time, I wasn't in the mood for tea and ordered their mocha for a little caffeine boost. As soon as the barista had placed the drink on the table, I was impressed yet again! Apparently, they do coffee art here! This is by far the first coffee shop I have encountered to actually do coffee art. As I looked down at my hazelnut mocha, I was delighted to find the barista had formed a heart with the froth of the milk. This is definitely a place worth going.

(By the way, I put a picture of the mocha in the business photos of the reviews.)

Hope you enjoy!

This is an awesome place! It's my first time coming here and I would love to come back.

The staff is really friendly and is willing to help you with any questions/needs. I ended up ordering a Jasmine Pearl teapot and a blueberry muffin. It was surprising to find that they served teapots here. Not that many coffeehouses offer it. The price is reasonable too. Not expensive at all compared to Starbucks and other big coffee places. For the price I would pay for a 16 oz. tea at Starbucks, I was able to purchase a whole teapot that gave me several cups of tea. Also, the baristas are more than happy to refill your teapot when you run out of water.

Walden's is really cozy and comfortable. They have couches and other things you can think of. From outside, it doesn't really look that great but when you walk in you can see that it's a pretty cool place.

Besides the friendly service and good prices, the best thing about this place is they have Wi-Fi (which made me give the full 5 stars)!

Viet Pho

I'm not sure why this pho got 4 stars overall. Reading the other reviews, I thought this would be a good place to get some dinner but I thought wrong. The pho here isn't that great.  It still puzzles me how others think it's the best pho. Out of all the pho places I've tried, this is probably on the bottom list. There was nothing great about it.  I usually order the spring rolls and pho noodle soup. The spring rolls didn't stand out nor did the peanut sauce (and the sauce is always the best part!) The broth for the soup was ok- nothing outstanding about it either. The food was OK. That's pretty much it.

The price for the amount of food I got was a little expensive for my taste. Two spring rolls and a small soup = $13.10. I've been to other pho places that were less costly with larger food proportions. It's sort of a rip off.

The location isn't the best. It shares the same dining area with Port of Subs. Personally, I could care less for location. As long as the food is great, it doesn't matter. The best foods usually come from little hole-in-the-wall places. For this place, it isn't the case.

If you're hungry and looking for a place to eat, it's an ok place- but not the greatest. If you're eating out to experience great food or a special occasion, I wouldn't really recommend this place.

It is not the best pho in Reno. If it is, that's pretty sad.

Sorry, I can only give it 2 stars.

Bibo Coffee Co

It was my first time going here and I would have to say it's a pretty neat place. After reading other reviews about this place, I had to check it out for myself. Definitely a lot better than Starbucks when you consider the prices and friendly atmosphere. It was over 90 degrees outside and it was nice to go into the building with A/C at just the right temperature to enjoy my minty mocha =)

As always, I try and support local businesses. This is definitely one of the better local coffee places to get your caffeine fix. Considering everything, I would rather visit Bibo than Starbucks.

I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because they don't have Wi-fi. Most coffee places I've been to have Wi-fi and was surprised to find that this one didn't have it. Sort of disappointing. Nevertheless, the coffee is still really good.
