Is there any reason why they couldn't put together the crostini? (They seriously gave me a container of plain crostini, cheese, and jam on the side!) Or the maki (seriously they just dropped off uncut rolls of rice with fish ON THE SIDE)? Or cut the buns for the ham sandwiches and burgers?
We received about 4 tablespoons of scallions and bacon for the"mac and cheese bar".
There were 20 raw burger patties, not even the 24 that I ordered.
The rice for the maki was really mushy.
The worst part of the evening was when I took the mac & cheese out of the oven, it fell all over me because the pan could not hold the weight, and it collapsed.
Someone called me the day before my party to give me instructions on how to fry the latke I ordered. They were just going to drop off the mix.. are you serious?! What kind of caterer is that. I insisted they cook them and I just reheat them. They sounded really confused that I would suggest such a thing. When the latkes arrived half of them were burnt. They also wanted me to fry up the grilled cheese I ordered. I refused. They arrived a greasy mess.
They basically just dropped off a ton of ingredients for me to put together. I didn't enjoy my party at all. People were joking that Peapod had catered the party.
It was a total disaster.
I also heard that the owner walked into work one day and fired everyone without notice and said he could do everything himself. Well guess what dude, you couldn't manage to get a single thing right. He emailed me after he saw my feature in Chicago Magazine, 'to make things right'. He neither offered to monetarily compensate for anything. He simply wanted to do another party together. There is absolutely no way I would waste my money on this company again.
After I posted this I received one email and a threatening yelp message from the owner saying how this is a small city and he's sure our paths will cross again. wtf.

To be clear I was completely dissatisfied with the food (remember the mushy, unfinished maki? the greasy burnt latkes, 20 burger patties instead of the 24 I ordered?)
I didn't respond to the emails and phone calls, because I had a terrible experience and just wanted it to be over. I didn't want anything more. I even paid City Provisions in full (even though the quantity brought did not add up) when I definitely shouldn't have. I only did it so I wouldn't have to deal with the company again.
After having a 10lb pan of macaroni and cheese collapse (because you were negligent in providing a pan that would hold the weight) all over me and my friend, the open oven, and the kitchen- I'm definitely not going to go out of my way to return your 20 shot glasses for your convenience. Feel free to pick them up.
And Cleetus, your genuine character shines through when you called me a "Chef" in your comment, applying quotes to belittle my talent. Show owner comment »
