Patio Filipino

Categories: Filipino, Caterers

2.0 star rating

Here's my disclaimer: I'm new with Filipino food.  I ate it at a food truck, and then decided that I needed to go out in search of another taste of the deliciousness.  Patio just fell short for me.

The good:

- Delicious chicken and pork adobo
- Garlic rice is amazing

The bad

- Service was terrible
- Pork sisig was...well, like a spam hash.  Not tasty at all.

I just didn't think this place was that great, and I really had my hopes up for it.  Oh well.

Amber India

It's hard for me to rate Amber India, because in San Diego where I recently moved from, you can get a better Indian meal for 1/4 of the price.  However, Amber India is the best Indian food I've found yet in the Bay Area.

The decor is beautiful, swank, and posh.  You cannot help but feel slightly awesome while you're in Amber.  When you order your dish, they actually put it on your plate for you, portioning you out some rice and curry.  It's a nice touch.

We had the Butter Chicken, which is delicious (but usually called Chicken Makhani).  The lentil dish we had un-believe-able.  I mixed the two together and it was delicious.  They served us quickly and we were in and out in very little time.  It made for a quick yet tasty and relaxing date night in the city.  I will return!

Martins West Gastropub

I found Martin's West when going to dinner with some friends and wanted to find a good place on the peninsula that served good beer.  This place popped up and the menu looked intriguing so we decided to see what's up.

First of all, the decor and ambiance is top notch.  It's quite big inside and there is plenty of room for larger parties, yet you can still hear what people are saying.  The service was just fine and dandy, though we should have made a reservation because our wait was crazy-long.

The food was, well, decent.  I'm more than a little disappointed because it wasn't cheap, it looked so promising on the online menu, and it was so covered in salt.  The scotch eggs were good, and the fries were decent, but the fish and chips was salty and my dessert (deconstructed strawberry shortcake) was so boringly deconstructed that I had to put it all back together to eat.

They do have a fancy drink menu with lots of $10.00 drinks.  I ordered one and it sufficiently gave me a buzz, so I cannot complain.  I'm not sure I'd go back to eat, but I'd drink here again if I find myself looking for a beverage in RWC with some pretentious friends.

Burlingame Caltrain Station

I like this Caltrain station.  It's clean and nice, has decent architecture, and tons of FREE PARKING.  Well, I'm not sure if we're supposed to park alongside the north side of the tracks, but everyone does and I haven't been busted for doing it.  I wish there was more protection from the rain and cold, but this is still my favorite Caltrain station so far.

Little Lucca Sandwich Shop

The Bay Area has no shortage of good sandwich shops and delis, and Little Lucca is certainly not an exception.  These sandwiches are enormous and tasty.

Plus sides:

- Huge portions
- Garlic sauce + hot pepper sauce = yum

Down sides:

- Messy and hard to eat
- Out of Dutch Crunch bread 2/3 times I've been there
- Huge portions (too big!)
- Cash only
- Little outdoor seating

I wasn't overwhelmed by the quality of the meat, but they certainly aren't afraid to pile it on.  Order your sandwich with everything on it, and you wil be amazed by the mouthful of flavors.

Mr Teriyaki

Mr. Teriyaki was a pleasant surprise.  I had some fairly delicious vegetarian rolls and my boyfriend ate some sushi rolls that he really enjoyed.  It's in this funny little location that you wouldn't assume would offer good sushi.  They have spicy mayo for their sushi, which means that it is of course awesome.  It's easy to eat a lot of food and not spend very much here.  I will say that their chicken teriyaki wasn't very good, which surprised me considering the name of the place.   However, their sushi was loved by both of us.

Cafe Du Soleil - CLOSED

This little food cart inside an office building is a sheer gem.  I am so glad my coworkers discovered and pointed this place out to me.

First off, everything is made fresh to order.  It's not always quick but it's always worth the wait.

Their caesar salad will seriously change your life and make you feel differently about every other caesar salad you have ever had.  It is seasoned, has the most buttery and amazing homemade croutons, and the capers give it this delicious tangyness that most caesars are missing.

The caprese sandwich is fresh, delicious, and has pesto on it.  I could live the rest of my life eating nothing but their sandwich and salad combo with both of these things.  It's a lot of food though.

Definitely go visit this place.  Great food and very nice ownership.

Sushi Sam's Edomata

Sushi Sams is basically overrated with a capital O.  Everyone I've talked to has suggested Sam's as the place to go for top quality sushi, and so far we've been nothing but disappointed.  The food is mediocre and overpriced and the wait is long.   No thanks to Sushi Sams.

Discovered this place tonight while looking for highly rated Chinese places near Burlingame.  Boyfriend and i both ordered the House Special Noodles and we were not disappointed.  It has a great Thai-inspired flavor of lime and coconut, and the chicken was moist and delicious.  The dish could have used more heat.  The vegetable samosa things (I forgot what they were called, but they tasted like samosas) were just aiight for me, but the dipping sauce they come with = holy crap yum.  Got a side order of coconut rice and managed to try a bite or two of it before running out of room in my belly..and it was super good.  Like Thai mango sticky rice except no mango and not for dessert.

I'll go back!  Want to try the Tea Leaf Salad!

Joanie's Café

Joanie's Cafe was standard breakfast fare.  Now, I'll admit I'm a bit of a breakfast snob..but I just didn't taste anything that made me want to go back.  I had the Eggs Benedict, and while it tasted 'fine', it wasn't exceptional.  It's not hard to make eggs benedict anyway. Boyfriend ate the Brioche French Toast, which he found incredibly dismal.  They weren't awful, but it just didn't compare to other french toast we've had.  The side of bacon was large (6 strips) and tasted good.  Corn Beef Hash felt a bit too much like cat food for my liking.

Probably won't be back to Joanie's.  It's not in my favorite part of Palo Alto, and it didn't taste that great.  Service was slow as well.  Oh well. :)
