Yelp Elite Event @ The Temple Bar and Lounge

Categories: Nightlife, Local Flavor

'Turnaround, every now and then i get a little bit terrified and then i see the fuckin look in your eyes... '

Tis the time of the year that you get to hang out with those that have made the year so 'kick ass' as it has been while having a good laugh over drinks. And what better way than to do it than at a yelp event. A yelp event at Temple Bar and Lounge. A yelp event at Temple Bar and Lounge that has always been a staple in our night time adventures more than we care to remember, some of us more than others.

It was a nice touch to see Temple in a new light, with food, wine, and well, more light than I am accustomed to. The food, I hear was really tasty. The Purity vodka was really nice, went down the throat crisp and smooth(twss). I wish I was able to stomach the line for the wine but the AMF's and patron shots were calling me at the bar, which again looked amazing under full light. Actually, the entire place looked stunningly different minus the otherwise typical wall to wall crowds, muted lighting and douche baggery. By the end of the night it transformed into wall to wall crowds of dark karaoke ambiance and SBCness.

What other way than to end a night than by reminiscing over the past accomplishments, chuckling at trials and tribulations and to make new drunken memories with those that don't remember being there in the first place. Speaking of which, I have to give MAD LOVE to Connie for organizing the event, Tin for allowing us to trash the venue and the ever filial yet alcoholically inclined SBC for their rendition of Total Eclipse of the Heart...
le sigh.

and

ZOMG my head hurts...

Wow... thank gawd for FTR FTW!

I'm so so so so happy that no one has written a review. These events I guess have become such a staple in our month to month lives that to write a review would not do it justice... not to mention that we have now reached a level that we are unable to remember much, if anything at all from that night that pictures are more than suitable to tell the story, though in retrospect is probably more of a curse than a gift considering the content.

Either which way, there doesn't need to be verbal confirmation of the drunken behavior at kojis. No need for discussion about the sauce sold there. No embellishments needed for the titty twisting that chase that i had to endure at McCormicks. And definitely no elaboration on the grinding that was enjoyed by all at Freddys (previously known as Mission Ale House).

Everyone looked like they had a great time. And lets just leave it at that. Till next month.

Santouka

Hey Boom, you want some udon?
I know a place....

I've been hearing about this place for weeks... santouka this, santouka that... santouka,santouka,santouka... so here i am with my female half to try out some japanese noodle/broth/beef action!!! Hahahaha, it's apart of Mitsuwa the grocery store. We rolled up into that cafeteria like area right around 11:30am and low and behold there was a lil line and already number of people eating. We hopped in line and tried to decide what to eat.

We got a spicy noodle something or another with extra meat... and my sister got some dish that had the meat and stuff but on the side instead of served in the bowl. Kind of weird but i'm sure there's some reason for the separation. It was all good. I liked mine more than hers.. I think my meat was a touch more tender than hers. My spicy broth was just right. Though it may have been a touch not spicy enough which would have hit the spot on a colder day. She had this salt broth was not bad nor great. It was salty, but it's called salt broth so i figured it's just right. And the noodles.. I love me some noodles! I wonder if they could fry it first before putting it in the broth.... but that aside the noodles are great.

And like that 12:00 came around and with it came a crowd of which would not look out of place at an amusement park (think more like disney land as opposed to santa cruz beach boardwalk... minus those time saving line busting tix machine things). And you know me, timing is important because eating is my business... and business has been good!

Where is this place?

This place isn't half bad if you can find it. What can I say, we don't all have TomTom or the Jeezus phone to help us get to where we want to go. But we did eventually find this hidden SJ gem.
and
and
and
why can't I remember what I ordered? What did we order? I can't seem to remember the crunch rolls or the baked scallops but I know I ordered uni and who knows what else. Everything else was ok however the uni was pretty good in my honest opinion. It just tasted fresh... lacking that all too familiar pungent ocean saltiness. It was clean and cold and refreshing and Maybe I need to better acquaint my palette with such a delicate urchin.

Where to go? Where to go?

I'm not done with my Monday night drinkin! Most of everyone either went home or to the concert.. what to do with a handful of folks and hours left on the clock? Let's go for broke... and no, I've never been to District before but with such a rather vague name I didn't expect much. But they had me at 'wine bar.' Well, why the hell not. With misguided instruction it took us under an hour to find a place that was less that 4 blocks away. Hahahahahaa!

The nice thing about going some where really late on a school night is that there's lots of parking. And that phenomenon didn't disappoint here. I found parking right in front of the entrance. Popped out and rolled into this very spacious, super spacious, over whelmingly spacious and heavily wooden venue centered around the bar of course. We decided to graze at this vast patch of couch and ottoman off to the far corner and I wont lie, I almost fell asleep.

We found the menu and we each picked our libations.. a few of us ordered  a flight of wines while I decided to stick with a large glass of chianti. I have a thing for chiantis. Fortunately they also served food but since we just ate I decided against it. That is till my eyes came across  'crispy glazed pork belly with heirloom apples, cider braised cabbage and creamed turnip.'  Even though I was full, however since I didn't picture myself coming back anytime soon... I just had to try this heavenly porky delight. And I'll tell you this much, drunk or not, even my senses could not deny the greatness that came on the plate in front of me. Wait, did that come out right? WAIT.... nvm! You know what i'm talking about!

What's that next to Cascal?

Oh, well if it isn't the Cantak... Cantanky.... Can-tank-er-ous Fish! Finally got it that last time! It's a nice space with a lot of wood. Apparently the place had gone under some remodeling relatively recently. of course since I've never been here before I can't really comment but whatever they did, I like. I found it to be very airy... only one minimal wall separating the main dining area and the bar area which allowed a lot of light and people watching. Oddly, as I sat there I realized that the bar could accommodate a sizable UYE of surely uncertain proportions. Bad GP, bad...

I met some of the staff there and the owner as well. Though I can't comment much on my introduction much to my very own embarrassing chagrin... 'This is JM, he's big in Yelp.' *blushing* After the awkward intro I hastily asked for the dessert menu. And this review doesn't say much of the offerings there other than the dessert but I do look forward to trying out the rest of the menu sooner or later. I found the "Cantankerous" Profiteroles and New York Cheese Cake not that bad. I preferred the profiteroles, not to be confused with cream puffs, mostly because it had whipped cream off to the side accenting the vanilla ice cream. I like whipped cream. I heart whipped cream because it gets all over the place.

Happy Hour Adventures!
What does $500 buy you during happy hour?
a night that is really hard to remember....

What do you get when you get a bunch of drunks in a city away from home? Well, you end up with a bunch of drunks in a city away from home? And this is their story....

I decided to drive up for a happy hour. And I brought a boat load of people with me. I take that back, perhaps I didn't bring them perse, but i had called a number of people to see who was down and as it turns out, there was quite a bit. And I suppose it was my good fortune that Armin was spinning that night bringing in another gang of people. All in all mad love to those that made it out (ali / jax / teena / jenn / fro / badri / jakob / vy / usi / and a bunch of other people that i'm too tired to remember right now because, well, cuz i'm tired). And I thought that it was a good opportunity to check out the happy hour at Chaya.

I was there a touch early and after getting less than stellar news from the doc, I decided to perk myself up with good conversation and a lot of things that would probably piss of my doctor. So, a lot of beer, wine, vodka drinks accompanied by generous amounts of fried carbs (fries/egg rolls/etc/etc). There was quite an extensive list of things on the happy hour menu. And all of it, I liked. Some more than others and some that they probably didn't imagine should go together. There was this spicy chipotle cream sauce of some sort that came with the egg rolls but went so well with everything else. I know some people, who shall remain nameless had ordered a train of wines by the glass that never ceased to keep coming.

Any who, people left, and there was left me, usi, and my cousin n her crew. We dashed off to a wine bar afterwards at which point will take more soul searching to remember. Oh, and btw, just in case you're reading this... the new girl who was working and finally caved in to enjoy Chaya's very own bread pudding (yes, get the bread pudding)  which I had to order two of to get you to try... stay cute as you want to be!

Good food, attentive service, great view, strong drinks....small portions...

I guess you can't always have your cake and eat it...but I do try. ;D
I like the place despite having no parking none what so ever - hence the valet service. I had gone there with a group of 5 celebrating something or another. The staff quickly seated us. The space is rather limited and a tad cramped. On a high note, it turns out the sashimi at the time was very good. One of the people at the table was a self proclaimed somlier of sashimi and swore it was some of the best she had out of Japan. Who am I to argue? After a few drinks I had very little to argue with. For the most part everything was tasty however small the portions.

Gawd, right now I'm having a large f'n headache. I can't really think right now and at the same time feel worse if I were to just delete this  review.

Lets try somewhere new!

And Trend is where I ended up. Odd name with some what equally odd, yet tasty food. I rolled up to find my friend ready to find some good eats. Went in and she spoke her magic to get that food train rolling. I think we initially went here to find XLB or buns or something or another. So we ordered shen jian bao (pan-fried pork buns), sweet potato cakes, xiao long bao (XLB), wontons in red chili oil and crispy eggplant.

Personally speaking, the service is a touch lack luster but that does in turn reserve the privacy of said conversations or video taking at an all time high. And considering the sounds coming from our table after trying each delicacy I would only imagine the word 'indecent' would be used. However half way through the food the entire thing got flipped on me and ended up eating things that were less to my liking.

I loved the potato something or another.. crispy yet chewy. And the eggplant... who doenst' like eggplant?  who doesnt like eggplant cut in small pieces? who doesnt like eggplant cut in small pieces battered and fried? OH YEAH! Everything else was alright. But perhaps we weren't listening to the menu carefully enough to hear the 'YES, EAT ME!!!!' screaming at us. The place, as do many things in life deserves a 2nd time around.

Halloween VEGAS REVIEW - part 7
I love me some noodles!

Looked like any other fast food noodle joint but with a very distinct McDonalds layout to it. Now that I think about it.... WTF did I eat? I know Ed went on and on about lo mein that he's been dreaming of for the longest time. But now that I think about it, I had pan friend chow mein something or another and perhaps  more noodles prepared one way or another. Can't go wrong with noodles. I am pretty sure I ordered lack luster sio mai as well. All in all it wasn't bad since I'm sure that it probably tasted 5x as good as it was greasy.

I dont know but I got an extra hour to eat my noodles before the alcohol swept me up in her sweet morning embrace.

Halloween VEGAS REVIEW - part 6
Back to Tao on Halloween of all nights!

Simple chaos! Just the way i like it. A parading menagerie of both costumed freaks and revealing lovelies from wall to wall, inside and outside of the circular hobbit like entrance. There are lines for everything. There are two lines for those with bottle service snaking in opposite directions from the entrance and then, if what I was told can be believed, that there was a massive line outside for everyone else.

After some waiting for people to pick up their phones, waiting for people to show up and a lot of soul searching our hostess finally stepped up and lead us upstairs to our table @ the corner by the bar right in front of a major fairway of club goers going to and fro. There were countless beauties rolling through spitting some mean game and hustling their 'wares' that you would not believe. Though they were at a disadvantage since they did not understand that we have been 'H' proofed by our very own SBC 'H' contingent and were not swayed by mere cleavage and eye lash batting. Though I admit I was not prepared for the groping and seduction.
I'm always been a sucker for seduction.

And since the bottles were not present I had to get away from all the pressures of bottle this or bottle that. So I hit up the easily accessible, yet crowded bar where I later got accosted by an ocean of Jon Gosselin groupies. After a lot of nay saying I finally allowed myself to be coerced into accepting the inevitable and down shot after offered shot. I later ended by a lot of pools and more debauchery at which point I became sick and threw up on someone.

Yes, I admit that I threw up on someone.
And sprinted my ass back to my table.

I've been thrown out of clubs before, and though I've never had the pleasure of being thrown out of this particular venue I felt that the night was much too young to end anytime soon due to no fault of my own. And at the table I drank the night away into blissful drunken hunger.
;D

~think I ran into Twilight cast folks.... like I cared. It's not like I got confused for one of them.

SBC VEGAS SERIES: 3 of many reviews
Where to go on a Thursday night when in Sin City?

    tao

Rolled through this initially small and dark and crowded space. I cut straight to the bar with the alcohol pouring sexy and imbibe while bouncing my head to the beats. Of course while on my mad dash I left everyone at the door. I circle around and can only find one single soul from my party... and she came out of the bathroom. We circle around and are still lost, however I figure to go upstairs.

We decide to go upstairs and are so hammered that we didn't question why the security guy sent us back down. We drank some more and then finally her bf came back down to claim us. I walked up those stairs and flashed my wrist as I previously did and this time got in like it was nothin'..... weird....

Anywho... back upstairs stage right... and bam, like a caterpillar emerging from it's cocoon the small dingy dive bar turned into a cavernous room with dancers on ledges, LMAFO singing (the Bay, Trick), an orgy of people everywhere, two bars, outdoor ledge and then some. The one thing I liked most about this section of Tao is that there was a lot of house music. wootWOOT!

Back the other way was two more bars and a large ass lounge that played hip hop. Not quite as energetic as I would have liked but where my party goes, I go.. for a lil while at least. So back and forth I went to find my groove. The drinks were strong, the music was loud and the women were workin' it.

With all that the highlight of the night was when I was leaving... as I drunkenly searched for the stairs I stumbled across two lust driven lovers out in the open. They were making out and groping each other... one got down on her knees and lifted the other's mini skirt and got down to business....

    *sigh of resignation
I left them to their devices as I was forcibly swept away by the crowd.

i only wanted to tip them
    or offer assistance
    lolololololol
    ;D
